i guess my favorite sabbath moment would be the first time i heard sabbath, my friend recomended them to me, i bought paranoid. I put it on the stereo and i felt like i was going into a new world of music, like i had never heard music that good, it was also my introducction to real metal music.
|
same happened to me but i got sold my soul for rock and roll first
|
dont know if this really counts as a sabbath moment but its how i got into them
their was a play on at school which my sister was in (which i got dragged to), and at the half time interval a band came on to entertain the crowed, and they played paranoid so i was thinking "thats bloody good" so after having it in my head for a week straight i found it on the jukebox at a pub in my town and ive put it on every sunday for the past 2 or 3 years |
Sabbath was what really got me into metal (now i listen quite a lot to CoF and Polish band VADER), and the person who got me to Sabbath was my cousin. And what's strange it's really ME who slowly gets my parents into heavy metal :), though them bastards don't quite want to... :naughty:
|
My Dad gave me all his Sabbath albums on vinyl, he's also gotten me into Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Dragonforce, Rhapsody, Samson, Led Zep etc...
Oddly enough, the only Sabbath album I don't have on vinyl is Paranoid... ...coincidence? Maybe. ;) And my fav. album with Dio is Heaven and Hell.
sometimes i get the feeling that you dont like the album paranoid... |
Many people don't. Because it's so-called best album by BS. Yet Paranoid(the song) is one of the most well -known riff in the world, yet too simple (maybe) for us fans... 'The most popular' albums are i think often disliked by fans... aren't they?
|
how can their most popular album be disliked by their fans? if that was true it wouldnt be their most popular album
|
I mean not by all of them. Some fans like it, some not. i do. But its most popular within people that eg normally dot listen to Sabbath or Metal at all. I guess you could take 1000 people who lived in the 70's and get them to listen to Paranoid and most of them would say 'dude i know that, it was cool when i was younger'... And many fans of sabbath i know dislike Paranoid because.. it's so well-known and liked by the not-fans...
|
ah, i get what you mean now, yeah i know quite a few people that dont really listen to sabbath but if you ask them to name a sabbath song or album they will say paranoid, but if you ask them something like if they thought that randy rhoads was a good guitar player for sabbath alot of them will say "yeah, he was class" (even though randy didnt play for sabbath), which normally shows whether they do actually listen to sabbath or not...i know what i mean
|
Paranoid is a fantastic album, beginning to end. Just because it's popular is no reason not to like it. Master of Reality is better, but Paranoid is pretty **** close.
|
i think rat salad is one of the worst sabbath insturmentals that i have heard, FX off volume 4 is one of the only ones i've heard that is worse, that is a terrible song
|
Their Self Titled album alog with Masters Of Reality will get you started. :thumb:
Master of Reality... Yes. In my opinion all BS albums are great, and i couldn't say any from these i've heard is better than others. But MoR seems to me the first BS album on which they play only Heavy Metal. Black Sabbath and paranoid were more bluesy. Children of the Grave, After Forever, Lord of This World... Simple yet changing and very listenable riffs, hard, 'biting' solos and sooo great vocals of Ozzy... together with Geezer's bass and Bill's drums it gives one of the hardest Metal albums I've heard...

Rat salad is a great drum solo, the guitar isn't that great but then again it's not the focal point of the song. |
i still say their first album is their best, got to love that bluesy feel
|

oh well, each to his own but i think that fluff off sabbath bloody sabbath is one of their best |
I really like Master of Reality and Volume Four
Here are my 10 favourite Black Sabbath songs: 1.Every Day Comes and Goes (Under the Sun) 2.Hand Of Doom 3.Sweet Leaf 4.War Pigs 5.Solitude 6.Orchid 7.Killing Yourself To Live 8.Snowblind 9.Supernaut 10.Behind the Wall of Sleep ----- Black Sabbath is the first real heavy metal band I had listened to (I heard Def Leppard and other hair bands on the radio when I was a kid  ) Me and my friend would listen to music in the basement, and discuss which guitar solo is better and why.. or in which song Bill Ward's drumming is better.. and so on.. Its good to see some people here who appriciate the good stuff.. |
new quetion...again
which post ozzy/dio album is you favourite? (note that means everyone after dio and ozzy) |
I heard only (poor me) TYR and Born Again. And I Think they are both really worth listening to. BA's self titled song is beautiful, Zero the Hero's solo is one of Iommi's best i think, and TYR is... also just great. Really bad i cant afford BS albums here in Poland... Too expensive..... And there's so little amounts of them nowadays... :upset: :upset: :upset:
sometimes i get the feeling that you dont like the album paranoid...
Yep, I don't like that album much at all. It bores me. |
I like 'War Pigs' a lot. The more I've listened to Black Sabbath lately, I've noticed that they sound a lot like Led Zeppelin. Has anyone ever noticed that or am I crazy?
Monti
No.. ur not crazy! ur just special..... well... they do cuz' led zep started metal althogh not exactly metal... ;) |
