Wow, a little enthused aren't we? Actually I take that back, because this is the kind of attitude we should all have about the covers. |
I know its an hour late, but you killed it again ;)
I'm pumped for you guys, whatever you decide I'm sure it will come off awesome. |
Can you guys tell me how to upload?I would like to upload Stinkfist(with vocals) me and my friend did with midi bass and drums. It's low quality but preety cool for two guys in like an hour of recording.
I'm also preety good at playing Parabola. The only problem is I have a V-Amp with the Boogie amplifier model so it doesn't sound exactly like the real thing.I can do it next week if you guys are willing. |
a cover of tool from the fans will be awesome
I'm forgetting a couple that are well into production
Ćnema Vox-Moses, I assume Guitar-Clearvision Bass-JoZ Drums-need one Stinkfist same lineup I've actually talked to JoZ 2 times in the last three days. He just hasn't came here. I'll get him in here tomorrow or something.
Ken was going to do aenima drums, then he dissapeared :( i thought Kage was taking stinkfist, I don't mind, Imma have alot of free time after the exams :D |
Does JoZ have a bassline recorded for Eulogy? I'm talking to 307 and he would gladly do the guitar for it. I think it would turn out great. it feels like I'm the only one, though
Ok. I've talked to over 5 guitarists about doing Parabol/a and they all say no for the same reason. I'm not going to beat a dead horse and say 'drop b is too hard,' but I think we've put enough energy(lol, it's the internet) into trying to get a guitarist for Parabol/a. Like I said before, there are tracks that are just as good that require less guitar strain.
I don't get what they mean by too hard. You just tune the E to a B and the A to an E. I play it with standard guage strings and everything is fine and it sounds fine. So, what's difficult about it? |
^^^
Yeah...i don't find anything really difficult about that either. |
B string is soo slack it sounds rank on most peoples guitars.
I just played through lateralus, pretty easy, only tricky part is the pinched harmonic bit and the 'over analysig' bit... Why do we need to rope in numbers? It's not like we are short on guitarists... I thought the whole point of this thing was the communities can put forward what they want... |
We have no shortage of guitarists, we have a bassist who has put down a good amount of starting material, plus others in reserve in case JoZ doesnt get the chance to do more. We have an eager drummer, and one who should be more eager, but has vanished again now. So numbers are not a problem.
To sort out a few thigns I picked up over the last page: 1) If we ever were to pull off Third Eye, I think it would have to be a multi guitarist effort. If anyone does know it all in its completion, by all means, give us an upload. If not, like (insert user here) said, there's enough talent here for people to learn certain sections, then piece together the track. 2) What I was referring to with a Tool medley was not to play the whole track progression at once, but instead to record the individual tracks at first, then look at ways they can link into the next, by adding different ending improv sections, to give it almost a live set feel. I can easily mix together two tracks to run into each other (got plenty of practice doing the hit-and-miss holy gift) 3) As for Drop B, I think some guitarists might have a moral objection rather than a technical one :p 4) If people (I keep saying this every other post it seems) have recording capabilities of any kind (i.e. functioning soundcards with some form of mic plugged in at least), then record what you can. If you're worried about negative reactions, dont be, most of the thread regs (there are some exceptions (JAKE :D) )will be constructive, and any crit wont be on your recording skill. If its required, I might set up a soundclick space to put all the recordings up on. Ill also complie a list of what I have at the moment |
 nice dig @ jake lolorz...
The medley sounds good as it gives you some part to play in it :D If we do third eye, I have claimed the first solo :) I can upload any song really, i know most of the general ideas so i can strum along...but to actually record i just need to pick up and practice little bits, like the two parts of lateralus, and a couple of parts of aenima that i find tough (the slides from the 2nd fret barré shape to the 17th etc) ... I'll record some snippets of stuff later when my brian fries from all this revision I think. I found a pretty awesome clean tone for the main lick in lateralus. |
Dangit. :(
I'm serious. There is something wrong with my computer. The first minute and a half of each recording is in tempo, then it slowly lags off. :( /unconstructive At least I have a working soundcard. :p |

Also If we upload that Stinkfist version it kind of defeats the purpose of the whole MX official thread covers. |
To Nobuo>God- go to YouSendit and upload it there. Once you get there, click browse...then find the file and click ok. It should work out fine for ya. :thumb:
Also, do Parabola. It doesn't matter if your tone is off. I'm using a 10 watt Ibanez amp to record. :p |

If you're a serious guitar player and have an ear, then it does mess up your guitar, seriously. It may sound okay to an unconditioned guitarist, but it's not good to do. I explained what happens from it a page or so back, and I speak from personal experience. |
My theory on drop tunings, you wanna go lower than D, buy a bass. or baritone or other many stringed guitary things.
My guitar struggles with D, the looseness of the string makes my intonation horrible, i really have to work to get it to sound on pitch. Also it sometimes slaps off the pickup = not good. Parabola isn't even the best showcase we could do, lateralus is good if a drummer is competent enough, pushit would be quality but i'm seriously doubting anyone could do the closing lines of that any justice. Aenema is an all rounded song, the drum's at the beginning are quite cool...the vocal melody when he sings 'try and read between the lines' is very strong...there are many breakdowns and changes to dynamics and stuff that make it a stand out song to me...best idea is just to mix what we have, part of me, sober, lateralus if people do it and aenima. |
What about Stinkfist? I was doing guitar for that song...are we dropping it?
EDIT: Dammit, I keep missing pages and not catching up. I see Jake assigned me for guitar on Lateralus. I think we sould decided RIGHT NOW which songs we're doing before this becomes one mass of chaos. :) |
So now I have the Moses curse?
|
It sucks doesn't it?
|
@ Kage
I nominate Lateralus. Faith+1 says he can pull off the drumming perfectly, I think Mo could pull of the vox (He said he wanted to like 2 weeks ago) and I think that we could have all the guitarists give it a try and choose the best one. Ironically, I talked to the JoZ, and he said that he would really have to work on this song. :p All in favor? |
That sounds good to me.
|
Noje? What do you think of singing Lateralus?
|
Yes, I agree on Lateralus. Also if anyone wants to do Parabola, please do it.
*It's spelled Nojus :thumb: |
So let's recap, what songs have agreed to DEFINITLY do? Just Lateralus?
|
Yes. We're back to ground zero again, apparently.
How about this-We put all of the covers that are in progress aside until we get Lateralus finished. This way, there's no backing out/procrastonating. |
I could pull vox off but I'd just like to know how to make my voice sound recording quality.
|
I still might record Stinkfist for kicks, and we can use it as a backup. But I think the major song we're doing is Lateralus.
If anyone has an objection to it, he best speak up. |
I still might record Stinkfist for kicks, and we can use it as a backup. But I think the major song we're doing is Lateralus.
That's what I was thinking, but put Stinkfist on the back burner for now. :D |
I say Stinkfist first, then Lateralus.
It's simpler. But I'll go with what everyonelse wants to do. EDIT: Actually I changed my mind, the other way around. |
Before we make it official we shuold probably get Ben's and Clear's opinion on it as well.
|
I say you upload tracks for the same song and il piece them together :p
|
Ok, what about Clear?
|
*It's spelled Nojus :thumb:
I know, I tried to give you a nickname. :p /fails EDIT: Good idea. Let's wait for a few more Toolophiles to approve of our plans. We already have a majority vote of 3 to 0, but we should still wait. |
I also like the Soundclick idea.

Yeah, I mentioned something to that effect on the last page.
Congrats on your 900th post ITT, Ben. |

It seems Ben doesn't care as long as he has something of substantial value to mix together.
