Yep, I expected a lot more out of them with Alexi playing guitar. The same goes for Kyllahulut.

If your a big Dream Theater fan maybe you could help me out a little bit here...

I have train of thought and octarvaium. I like train of thought much more.

Which other Dream Theater albums should I check out? Which have the most in common with ToT?
thx.

I had some thoughts about CoB's lyrics.
Many deal with the Lake Bodom muders june 4 1960. I won't rattle the whole story cuz everyone knows it or should.
Some of the other's I don't get though. Such as songs like,
Bed of Razors
Everytime I die
Discuss...

dest. Chaos 10-21-2005 08:45 AM

The razor caressed your flesh and your arms turned red.
I feel your vast desire
Tearing pain is flowing down your arms.
Sweet, red, warm stream I drink to make you released
Holding your arms, cherish this composure,
in the bed of razors we sleep together, forever...

Bed Of Razors lyrics are cool. Alexi wrote it for Kim...

I'm sorry. :( I'm quite the opposite. I guess we can't be alike in every aspect. :p

Alexi's lyrics are often total bullshit he made up in the studio. He uses his voice as an instrument, not because he really has something to say. Some are good, but most are laughable, and often make no sense.

IheartSP 10-21-2005 01:33 PM

Bed of Razors is so goth lol

Train of Thought is their "heavy" album. They really have nothing even close to matching the heaviness of that recording. Probably the second heaviest (and my personal favorite) is Awake. Labrie's singing is a bit more rough and ragged, but once you get used to it, it's an awesome album.

None of their other work sounds like Octavarium, either, save Falling Into Infinity, which is awful.

Shadows 10-21-2005 01:46 PM

Despite my dislike of Dream Theater, I enjoy Train of Thought.

Unfortunately, I've heard some songs from Octovarium and it didn't sound like metal. It didn't even sound like rock - just pop music. I was thinking:

nowitzki 10-21-2005 04:13 PM

If you're a fan of ToT (it was the album that got me into DT and now they're my favourite band), I'd say check out 6DOIT next, it has The Glass Prison which is excellent, and a few other heavy songs. Though it is a lot more varied in style, like most DT albums bar ToT.

But if you want to take a risk try Scenes From A Memory, it is just a breathtaking album, the first time I listened to it in full I was like  :naughty:

MRDuCran 10-21-2005 08:32 PM

Just ordered my tickets for the CoB show in London, Jan 26th. \m/.

Ben, if you see this can you post a link to the Arsis EP + T-Shirt order page that you posted a while back. I tried looking for it but couldn't find it.

Shadows 10-22-2005 09:05 AM

Sure Josh. It's ordering directly from Willowtip. Ads for the new EP are all over the site, and to find the shirts just go to "Clothing". Arsis merch sold out a while back, so they're taking pre-orders now. Mike (drummer) says they'll be getting more in very soon, which would explain why I haven't gotten mine yet.

Shipping is free, too.
http://www.willowtip.com/store/

EDIT: Woah, nevermind, my stuff just came in the mail a few minutes ago. That really didn't take long at all. I guess the clothing shipment came in, but for some reason the site still has it as a pre-order.
