Everything between PATGOD and Meddle was sub par to bad. I really enjoy their mellow psychedelic prog era (as does everyone) and everyone knows what I think of Syd's years.
I really hate to compare those 2 eras even though Syd's era is better. It was more original, more creative and the most psychedelic music ever heard. I'm not saying latter era couldn't be original or creative (because it was!) but you just can't compare with Syd's psychedelic imagery and spaced out music. It was as if he was trying to communicate with another universe just amazing amazing music. me = minority :( |
My favorite era was earlier stuff, but not the earliest. Like 1970-1973.

i like 1967 - 1979 the best...
i was wondering, if you labeled each pink floyd album as "most ____", what would it be? i would label it as... piper at the gates of dawn - most fun to listen to a saucerful of secrets - most mysterious-sounding ummagumma - most experimental more - :( not familiar with it yet zabriskie point - :( not familiar with it either atom heart mother - most unique meddle - most relaxing obscured by clouds - most funky-sounding (bahh i cant explain it) dark side of the moon - most poignant wish you were here - most depressing animals - most angry the wall - most captivating the final cut - least variety (i couldnt think of a "most") momentary lapse of reason - most happy-sounding the division bell - :( not familiar with it either |
zabriskie point - :( not familiar with it either
Is this a bootleg? I know you said you're not familar with it, but I've never even heard of it. |

its another one of their soundtracks |
The Final Cut = Most Monotonous.
The Division Bell = Most Instrumentally awesome. |
PATGOD - Most psychedelic
AHM - Most experimental I don't feel like thinking of any more. |
Amlor=deeply
The Divission Bell=melancolic The Wall=depresive Dsotm=psycodelic Atom Heart Mother=crazy Wywh=melancolic |
Look what Gilmour said about syd barret and i think he is wright:
"It's sad that these people think he's such a wonderful subject, that he's a living legend when, in fact, there is this poor sad man who can't deal with life or himself. He's got uncontrollable things in him that he can't deal with and people think it's a marvellous, wonderful, romantic thing. It's just a sad, sad thing, a very nice and talented person who's just disintegrated." |

I've been working on SOYCD today on guitarra, it's easier than it sounds but still kind of hard. It's one of the most things I've played yet though :thumb: :smoke:
Hmm... album most ______'s.... well, my knowledge of Floyd albums is limited at best compared to other posters in here, but here's what I've heard. Meddle - Most trance-inducing (in a good way :smoke: ) Dark Side of the Moon - Most transitional (many meanings for that I guess) Wish You Were Here - Most breath-taking (my breath has been taken many times by that album) Animals - Most rockin' \:)/ The Wall - Most melancholy |
My favorite Floyd era is
1967-2005. Althought I didnt really like the 1995-2005 era too much.. 2005 was a great year though ;) |
ummagumma is my favourite album. live at pompeii = my fav concert
1. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 2. A Saucerful of Secrets 3. Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun 4. Echoes top songs on my list |
Yeah, Live at Pompeii is fantastic, it would also be my favourite concert. I bought the DVD a few months back, great tracks and the Gong with the sun setting in the background, great atmosphere and very surreal in imagery and of course sound.
|
concept albums striaght up own, and I love how on most of Floyd's albums, the end of track one blends well with the start of track 2 and so on.
Ya Live at pompeii is terrific... quite possibly the best concert idea ive ever seen ofcourse, its not exactly a concert. Me and my dad (whos in a local blues band and is a bit synical of pink floyds music) were watching the concert and we both noticed something In a few scenes you can see people sitting on the rocks watching the concert Are these crew members of perhaps just people passing by, getting a free show? HOW AWSOME WOULD THAT BE!? not just to see them live, but to see them play some excellent ambient jams in an ancient greek theatre. |

Heres my most ___ list for some albums: Piper At the Gates of Dawn: Most Psycodelic Meddle: Most defining Dark Side of the Moon: Most well known Wish You Were Here: Most breathtaking (got that one from BigTrav415) Animals: Most progressive The Wall: Most awesome |

Albums, or songs? A saucerful of secrets live off ummagumma is a great song, and the ummagumma live CD is very good, if a little short. "Jugband blues" is a good song, too. |
I don't like any of the albums between those 2 albums. I mean there were good songs but the albums in general weren't very good.
Yes, "Jugband Blues" is AMAZING!!!! |

Perhaps most ambitious; Double album, concept album, made with movie etc |
I actually think I'll change my The Wall ____ to "Most emotional" It really just invokes so many feelings in you listening to it, like WYWH... I personally believe my best piece of advice to any Floyd newbie is to buy an album, wait till like midnight, then listen to it in bed with your headphones turned up like all the way. That has to be the best way to listen to any Floyd album, especially Meddle, WYWH, and the Wall.
NP: Pink Floyd - Vera |
most OTT - the wall
|
most OTT - the wall
OTT? Over the top by chance? I would agree with that partially, but personally I believe that DSotM was the most OOT (if that's what it means :p ). It was like nothing before it, and just amazing and exaggerated and every other good thing to describe an album :D |
Obsessed with Hey You for the moment.

yeah, over the top. I'd say dark side of the moon wasn't that OTT, it was an album that everybody could relate to. |
Nice. But yeah, 1995-2005 was a bit of a dry spell... hopefully it'll end soon.
In '95 Pulse came out. What an amazing live album. |

Right on. Wish You Were Here is definately my favorite Pink Floyd album. I especially like the keyboard solos in Welcome to the Machine. |
