Meh, I think Tool's version = Zeppelin's version.

But that is just me.....
Eh?
They aren't exactly the same.....so I'm guessing you mean Tool's versions better. And even if you don't it is you nuurrrhhh :P

Unless he likes them both equally.

clearvision 04-25-2005 10:40 AM

Yo ken! If you have any spare time would you mind laying down some drums to JoZ's bass tracks? I know your very busy as i haven't seen you much around hear, but it would be soo cool if you could contribute to these tracks. Im sure JoZ can send you his bass track - the midi drums :)

Tools no quarter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Zeps no quarter

And the Guitarist question has already beenanswered :)

Now we wait for AJIG to come online and say that I+W is great.

YouGottaBeCrazy 04-25-2005 11:02 AM
... Even Led Zeppelin fans admit that Tool's version is better. It's not that great of a song.
Who are these so called Zeppelin fans, for I shall smite thee also.

there both good but i just think tool "toolified" the song by giving it the awesome tom groove at the end. but i have to say jimmy paige way over adam jones.
but i have to say jimmy paige way over adam jones.
I'd disagree, strongly. Adam Jones is a brilliant, creative, original musician, as well as an artist and video director etc. Jimmy Paige is just the biggest thief ever of black music.

clearvision 04-25-2005 11:21 AM

What a legend! My favourite n00b.

"Jimmy Paige is just the biggest thief ever of black music."

Erm 1st of all, I'm not a n00b at all, I've been using these boards quite a while. Secondly, it's very well documented how Jimmy Page stole old blues songs/riffs and credited them to himself. He also constantly re-hashed his own riffs and solos to re-use them. There is much evidence to support this. Dont just call me a n00b before getting your facts together. Twat

Typical MXer/Tool fan. Better than everyone else on the planet without question.

Futuro 04-25-2005 11:45 AM

i agree with joemarsh i love tools work but his guitar playing is nothing special if danny carey wasnt in the band they couldnt survive off adam jones playing guitar.

the only thing i hear that would be hard in his solo's would be pinch harmonics.

i love adam jones's work but the fact of the matter is that jimmy paige is flat out more creative even if that involves stealing theres only so much stuff you can do with a guitar.(kind of hypocrasy)

in 30 years there will be another aenima riff the vocals will probably be political too.

freaks_refuge 04-25-2005 12:02 PM

I dont think you have to stick stupidly hard solos into songs to be 'special' or 'creative'. I think he does much more with the guitar than Paige ever could. And because he doesnt put shredding solos in his songs doesnt mean he cant do them. I've heard that he can (I'm not saying it was a fact, I'm saying thats what I've heard). I think, like Maynards vocals, Adams guitar-work is quite subdued yet still brilliant. Maynards vocals being subdued because he doesnt have much of a range compared to a lot of singers but I think he beats out the competition with how he uses it.
But whatever, disagree if you wish, you've made your point, i'm making mine. Thats what make these conversations more interesting than page after page of 'Tool r liek so awesome coz dey r teh sex' and 'Omg I cant wayt 4 da nu Tool album 2 cum out'

Get yourself an original avatar so its easier for me to identify your posts in the future. You seem to have some valid points of discussion

Funny you put that. I've been looking for one for the past hour, but for some reason this message board won't let me upload any, or perhaps thats just my computer. (much more likely option).
Thy bidding will be done however master

EDIT: Done!! :chug:

Syncratic 04-25-2005 01:34 PM

^Dude, you're kickin'...can't help with the avatar thing thoguh...and it's spelled 'Page'....but hey, whateva'

 sorry man i read your join date as april 2005 for some reason...And the reason i said you were a legend is you stated the facts abotu paige. it wasn't simply praising you for being contraversial

Just. You're both right. Its so un-heavy (english me good), yet brilliant at the same time. Its always good when I can remember sections i liked after a first listen.

Ill put it on my MP3 player tommorrow, as im out most of the day. It'll give me a better idea of it

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-25-2005 03:41 PM

I'm seeing a lot of "Paige." The name correctly spelled is "Page."

On Adam Jones, his playing is SUPPOSED to be restrained. Like we've already established, he CAN shred. But who cares? Tool's music sounds better when he doesn't shred and we all seem to love the sound of his guitar.

Does it matter if Adam can shred?

I would rather hear a nice solo then a shred solo (I do like shredding though)

Band member > Guitarist

If that makes sense to you all in the situation of Adam

Dried Muffin Remnants 04-25-2005 03:45 PM

Oh, well he does have nice solos. Some include the end of Third Eye and Parabola.

I rather the first solo in third eye I think it is well better than the second one.
Band member > Guitarist

Makes sense, but I somewhat disagree. I love Adam's playing and to whoever said he was less creative than Page: you're a complete fool.

Of course, Adam works on more levels than just his guitar playing, but people seem to knock the latter just because it isn't as complex as the actual songs are, or as complex/challengning as the drum parts. Tool comes together in complex ways and make original music. The technicality of the guitar parts has no bearing on how the music really is.

Besides, Adam's sound is somewhat sloppy (as with most Rock guitarists), but it really gives it a good feel. His playing is original and has a lot of feel to it among the imperfection.

Adam Jones is GOD 04-25-2005 04:19 PM

Just to elaborate a bit, I was referring that a gutarist who fits in with the band and can sink into the background/join in and harmonise well with a band is better than one who constantly needs to be in the foreground. Hence why I like his style.

His solos seamlessly fit in with any song, and its hard to point out 'the solo part' in most songs, unlike with most guitarists who need the ful attention when soloing.

freaks_refuge 04-25-2005 04:26 PM

I agree with everything positive said about Adam on this page so far.
Apologies Clearvision for lashing out at you. And I put Paige not knowing the real spelling for sure, I thought it was Page but I was commenting in response to the person saying Page was better and if you check back I believe he spelt it Paige. I thought 'well I won't doubt him due to him actually being a fan" I forgot that fans can still be quite ignorant of their supposed heroes.

Theres been an update on toolband... something about a bunch of people includeing mabye Danny playing at some club.

Then we're saying the same thing ;) You just said it more clearly and concisely than I did. That is a good observation, it's hard to point out the 'solo parts' because they're basically just parts of the song that happen to be solos, if that makes any sense.

He's still one of my favorite guitarists. The solo part of Reflection (one of the easier ones to pick out) near the end is one of my favorite guitar solos ever, especially when it's done and he goes to the normal riff and the rest of the band crashes in. *Eargasm*

clearvision 04-25-2005 04:31 PM

no worries refuge...

I wish blair would post something worthwhile... *shakes fist*

i agree about the ability to blend being a real strong point, but then again adam always has his chance to shine, Aenima solo, Third eye solo (when he messes about on the 19th fret, then busts into that quality lick)...yeah

/is off to listen to salival

//night thread

Kage 04-25-2005 04:32 PM

There are parts where he stands out (like the Reflection part I just talked about), but in a good way. Other times he just blends into the song.

A local jam session. One that I would kill to be a part of. Especially if the the big guy himself turned up.

Anyone from LA here?
