Democracy can easily coincide with capitalism. No where is it said that democracy involved complete economic equality, but solely that it gives a vote to all people. The idea of a majority rule government isn't complete equality. The only government system in which all are equal is anarchism which is entirely unfeasible in our current political climate no matter where you live.

Also, capitalism isn't inherently oppressive. It is the people that make it corrupt not the philosophy. There can be oppression with any economy.
This is true. Capitalism in is truest form is perfect for democracy in that it promotes market freedom and no government interference. True capitalism would let the people decide what they want to purchase, the ideal of democracy.

Right now, the humna race is not capitable of making any system function properly. Our society is too screwed up. And if it does change, it won't be in our lifetimes, or even our children's lifetimes. I just don't think we can change, which is why I don't agree with the preaching of anarchism and peace. I have nothing against the discussion, but the preaching and promotion is just a pipe dream of a bunch of hippie rejects who thought they could be punk by not being able to play their insturments.

pedro durruti 12-01-2005 12:03 AM

Even if it is a pipe dream it probably is worse to just give up

I rather focus on changing actual social structures like how we view gender and race rather then try to change the uncorruptable government and economy.

I told this to Stumps once while discussing Anarchism/Communism. I said if there was a revolution, I'd be up there on the frontlines with the revolutionaries, even if I don't agree with anarchism, and he said the same about communism (because at the time I was a hardcore commie)

People will always be racist, men will never hold women as equals, and there will only be two sexes

You have a good point Mr. Pater.

I said that on soulseek and Sam didn't believe me :-(.

obese_breasts 12-01-2005 12:53 AM

Race and Gender equality have been improved MUCH more in the last 100 years than anykind of economic or governmental equality.

KingOfSka 12-01-2005 02:11 AM

Why did Anxious Mo-Fo get banned?

obese_breasts 12-01-2005 02:13 AM

He asked to be banned.

KingOfSka 12-01-2005 02:13 AM
He asked to be banned.
Hmm. How long does posting links to pr0n get you banned for?

obese_breasts 12-01-2005 02:15 AM

Not quite sure. It's usually up to mod discretion. At least a week or more.

KingOfSka 12-01-2005 02:19 AM

You know, asking to be banned might not be such a bad idea. MX is getting in the way of my schoolwork, I need to buckle down for these next few weeks, until winter break.

Griff, ban me 'til the 9th.

Edit: Can I still participate in the Christmas Contest if I'm banned?

obese_breasts 12-01-2005 02:21 AM

I can do it until the 10th or 7th.

KingOfSka 12-01-2005 02:22 AM
I can do it until the 10th or 7th.
Nevermind, I'd like to participate in the Christmas Contest. Can I still partake if I'm banned?

Is there like a "BAN" button beside my name?

obese_breasts 12-01-2005 02:24 AM

No, you have to go into the ModCP and type in the name of the person you wish to ban and select a length.

You're one off.

coheneran 12-01-2005 08:13 AM

1717 posts! What a cool number. Which, incidentally is the year in which Bishop Benjamin Hoadly, acting on the advice of King George, began the Bangorian Controversy by saying that God favours churches with no government.

How incredibly uninteresting.
How incredibly uninteresting.
It was a very boring year. I looked it up on wikipedia because I had nothing better to do than to bring pointless sources into my post. It was the most interesting thing in 1717. Unless you count the first ballet ever to be performed in England interesting.

Mad cool. That'll be awesome.

coheneran 12-01-2005 12:46 PM

Why is it that nearly every celebrity (in Britain anyway) has done some sort of work or advert for UNICEF or some other organisation working against poverty and/or HIV/AIDS, but I've never seen ONE politician really put his face out there to show support?

RetiredAt21 12-01-2005 12:50 PM

Politicians don't really seem to care about anything but their paychecks.

coheneran 12-01-2005 12:59 PM

Well, these celebrities (in this case, Bex and Robbie Williams) don't have a very notorious life of charity purely for charity, if you now what I mean. But they seem to know their stuff about AIDS in Afrika (that's right, I've started to spell it the cool way)and Beckham didn't sound stupid and said some intelligent(ish) things.

white_riot 12-01-2005 02:10 PM

A lot of celebrities only do that stuff because it gives them more celebrity.

coheneran 12-01-2005 02:22 PM

I know. But wouldn't politicians want it even more? I mean, a celebrity is a celebrity, whether or not people like or dislike him. A politician is nothing if no one supports him.
