Wall addict here.
I've been listening to The Wall since I was 3. Still listen to it at least once a week and love every second of it. Almost inspired me to take up bass so I could play along to 90% of the album, however Gilmour's bends are very persuasive. |
Yeah, the Wall is fairly good. I also share the love for OBC. Something about that album just makes me feel great when I listen to it.
|
I don't have OBC
/embarassed Magicbus, I liked your playing. PinkFloyd's critique is a lot more thorough than mine could be, so I won't bother giving any criticism. But, I liked it. |

I haven't heard any of those yet albums, all I have is Dark Side of the Moon, Division Bell, and Echoes: the best of...

:(
Get The Wall or Wish You Were Here next. Then get Animals and maybe a live cd like Pulse. |

Agreeed, DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall and Animals are the 4 must have albums of PF IMO. |
yea i have ds wywh and the wall, ive heard all of them, probably buy the final cut next
|
IMO, the most important Floyd albums, in order, are as follows.
1. Meddle 2. The Wall 3. WYWH 4. DSOTM 5. Animals |

I don't think the Final Cut is as strong as other Floyd albums. It's decent, but just not there best work. If you liked The Wall alot, then I'd reccomend Animals. If you liked WYWH and Dark Side more, then I'd go with Meddle. |
I felt the Final Cut was there worst. It was slow, boring, and unevertful the whole way through. Not one song caught my attention.
Id actually recommend floyd albums to people in order from 73 - DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall. Goes from their album which they perfected their style, to mellow passionate rock, to more hard, satanic stuff, then into an album which sort of has a bit of each...but the tracks dont blend together as well. Rock Opera style is responsible for that...but after them 4, Id recommend some material late 60s/early 70s. |

Yeah, I agree. The only track on it that I really like wasn't even on it originally (When The Tigers Broke Free.) |

"The vocals are little more than rhythmic monologue" - moaner |
I was very surprised when I went to FYE today. THey actually had just about every floyd album out there, and then some. I've never seen Ummugumma, Relics, Works, Is There Anybody Out There?, Obscured By Clouds, or More at a store before. They also had a Bluegrass tribute (?!) to Pink Floyd, which I should have bought.
|
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the best Floyd album I've ever heard.
|
Whats everyones favorite era of Floyd? I like the early years at the moment
|
I wish I was creative and cool enough to say their early years, but honestly I think 1973-1979. Or maybe 1971-1977.

FYE has a great selection, usually. |
71-83

About the vocals, that record has some killer vocal melodies. A gunners dream for example, the melody is genius. Just listen to the way the notes follow each other and how the melody is drawn out but yet fits perfectly. THR's melody and OTTF are very good aswell. |
Why'd you take out the "In the form of a scroll..." in your usertitle, PinkFloyd?
When the Tigers Broke Free is such a great song, you can really tell how Roger feels about his father's death. |
I've noticed that in some Pink Floyd songs there are these "moments" that really stick out in my head whenever I think of the song, like in Another Brick In The Wall Pt.2, when Dave's guitar line is in and then Roger shouts "HEY! TEACHER!...etc", and then Dave's last line in Comfortably Numb before the guitar solo, and of course the outro solo to Sorrow.
Anyone else have these..."moments"? |

When the Tigers Broke Free is such a great song, you can really tell how Roger feels about his father's death.
Because it's abstract. Besides the fact that it's a good descriptive build. |
69-77 are the most important years for me.

Anyone else have these..."moments"?
The crescendo type intro at the beginning of the instrumental song "Marooned", when the guitar hits and holds that high note, I can listen to that over and over, one of my favourite Pink Floyd pieces, evokes so much emotion in the guitar melody. |
My favorite era of floyd is probably Meddle to the Wall. So, 71-79 or so. But, I like pretty much all of it.
I agree with PinkFloyd about The Gunner's Dream, that song is really great. But, most of the album I really don't like. |

Same for me. |

Anyone else have these..."moments"?
Yeah, in Comfortably Numb when Gilmour starts hitting the high notes at the end, when Mason flows perfectly from his solo into the first verse of time and Waters sings "digging away..." and when Gilmour sings: "Forever and ever!" and the slide guitar comes in on High Hopes. I wish I could be original, but my favorite Floyd period is 1971-'79. |
