Wow, where do you work? It is probably pretty big and nationally known then?
I like saying "MAW." MAAAAAAAAW.
It's big locally. It's the Fredericton Direct Charge Co-operative, which is one of the last decent stores in the chain of Co-ops. The general idea of a Co-op is that the store breaks even every year, that they don't really turn a profit from sales. That way, they can sell shit for cheap and everybody loves it. They make money because you have to be a member to shop there, and they charge a membership fee, where you pay $1/week in service fees, and $2/week in share capital. The latter of the two is paid up when you reach $1000 (which takes approximately 9.6 years to do). That's why it's "Direct Charge." There used to be a bunch of them, but they didn't do well enough to continue, so they downgraded to "Co-op Basics" where they just sell groceries (as opposed to all the other stuff we sell) and don't have membership. Our store is the highest grossing, biggest, and overall best Co-op that's in the Atlantic provinces. We have a huge grocery department, as well as clothing, shoes, video, electronics, seafood, deli, produce, a cafeteria, a gas station, appliances, garden center, floral, furniture, a pharmacy, and the department that I work in, home and leisure (all the miscellaneous items like cookware, tires, seasonal items, etc.). My city has a population of approximately 60,000 (closer to 100,000 when you count all of the outlying areas), and the actual number of membership accounts is about 18,000, but in reality, you get closer to 25,000 people shopping (spouses, kids, other people you bring in and let use your membership). The store generates a ridiculous amount of money and really moves the local economy. We employ about 250 people normally, and that can go up to 300 or so during peak seasons. So it's not big nationally, but it is a huge store. /history lesson on the Co-op |
"Practically speaking, if timesaving devices really saved time, there would be more time avaliable to us now than ever before in history. But, strangley enough, we seem to have less tume than even a few years ago."
"...practically worship youthful energy, apperance, and attitudes, has developped no effective methods of retaining them, a lack testified to by an ever-increasing reliance on the unnatural False Front approach of cosmetics and plastic surgery. Instead it has developped countless ays of breaking youthfullness down and destroying it." Bah, great book. |

I don't even know if places operate like that in Oregon! Either way, I kind of like the idea of your store and how it goes about running it. Well, the Hollister that I work at just sells clothes, and makes 5.5 million a year, and it is one of the highest selling on this side. My store just takes up resources, tries to sell the "laidback, California surfer" style, and then make a profit off of it. Woo! 5.5 million is a ton of money for it to be making, though, if you saw how small the store was, and, considering they don't pay for advertising, it is a ton. I don't know where I was going with this response. :amaze: |

Yeah that's very restrained, I can go ahead and do that. :P
But it won't be a 5 minute job. The other one was just looking at the photo and trying to be expressive, I am trying to learn to paint like Kokoschka. Expressionistic or realistic? :p |

At the grocery store I work, I average 45 customers an hour with an average spending of $80 each.
The other 6 cashiers there at any point in time do about the same. |
