ghettoeddo 06-09-2006 01:05 AM

dude take the time is ROUGH.
good luck, i haven't had much luck w/ it and it's my favorite DT song right now besides blind faith.

then again, i never realyls it down and just...practice practice practice. i'm completely self-taught and i haven't ever done actual scale work, finger-strength training, picking exercises etc. i just...jumped into it

prolly not the best approach

eug008 06-09-2006 01:38 AM

I tried learning Take The Time but after i saw the 4.34 solo I gave up. The rest I could probably play but that is just whoa

ghettoeddo 06-09-2006 01:40 AM

yea the middle solo w/ the guitar/keyboard dual lead is a beast. a lot fo finger stretching, weird intervals and some string skipping...

the ending solo is MUCH more manageable.

Jev 06-09-2006 04:43 AM

I was put down by take the time. I even found the start hard when the guitar kicks in.

I'll try it again though.

jpshortstuff 06-09-2006 04:45 AM

i like the funky riff half way through on TTT, especially on the Live In Tokyo DVD when they pause halfway through and MP just nods and they all come back in.

ghettoeddo 06-09-2006 01:59 PM

those riffs aren't bad the rhythm might be tricky for the riff in the middle.
the dual guitar/key lead is still the worst...

keep at it flower dance/happy it ain't too bad.

Atica 06-09-2006 02:05 PM

I want to play Metropolis, but now I am dealing up with Black Diamond-Stratovarius (Ihave to play all the keyboard lines on the guitar), when I finish with the solos which is what I miss i'll start for DT. Element of LED 435, good luck man!!!

ghettoeddo 06-09-2006 03:13 PM

metropolis...im not even gonna attempt it yet.
my ultimate goal is to be able to play glasgow kiss :]

Atica 06-09-2006 03:23 PM

That's a great song from the master Petrucci.

I have to make a homeword about Progressive metal, I already know many things about it, but if you can give me some links for getting deeper into it, I'll be very thankfull.:)

Enlighten Me 06-09-2006 05:12 PM

Glasgow kiss is REALLY tough for me, i'm not even talking about the solos and stuff just the main rhythm part (alt picking).
It's really hard to do clean.

eug008 06-09-2006 06:59 PM

Glasglow Kiss is one awsome song tho

PAJJ 06-09-2006 07:20 PM

I had huge timing issues with the start of the song, i felt like such a muppet because on paper it seems so much easier.

ghettoeddo 06-09-2006 07:24 PM

haha a muppet? petrucci tooling you?

it's in a fast 4 right? 12/8 if i remember correcgtly, with the occasional switch into 6/4 and a 7/8.

Live in Tokyo DVD?

Is this a one that isn't widely available?

Oh, and anyone who got World Tourbulence from the Daily upload last week and wants to send me it, they can get some e-sex from me for it:)
The links expired. Megaupload if you can, but not Rapidshare, my computer hates it.

I'm uploading Acoustic dreams, so put your emails down for it, kids.

Drunken Viking 06-10-2006 02:18 AM

I got World Turbulence. Would YSI be ok? That's easiest for me.

EDIT: Or if you have AIM that'd be great.

eug008 06-10-2006 03:43 AM

Is wrold Turbulance a Fan Club CD? Is Acoustic Dreams?

egg_knight@hotmail.com

Lord Abortion 06-10-2006 03:56 AM

I'll wait until everyone gets them down, then I'll send it out.
Acoustic dreams is just a load of random acoustic bootleg tracks, and WT is a bootleg from the 6DOIT tour.

YouGottaBeCrazy 06-10-2006 05:43 AM

Has anyone else noticed that part in "This Dying Soul" around 7:10 that sounds very similar to "Blackened" by Metallica? I thought it was a pretty neat little reference to their influences.

Lord Abortion 06-10-2006 06:44 AM

Yeah, you also note that they talk about it alot in DVD commentaries...JP will say "This is the Floyd like section", which is cool, really.

I'm only uploading Acoustic Dreams...the WT file is massive, and my computer will cut it's connection every 15 minutes anyway.

Another day, perhaps.
