i prefer Tarja, Annette is still good.

so far Cage is pretty good, but Brainstorm was ok

FatalEnergy 02-20-2008 02:32 PM

Nightwish blows, but Annette is much better.

Tarja was annoying

leomondaine 02-20-2008 02:33 PM

Annette sounds like Mickey Mouse, Tarja had such a darker voice and a better accent for the music

pate 02-20-2008 02:34 PM

Darker voice

FatalEnergy 02-20-2008 02:34 PM

Sounds like BRA talking.

leomondaine 02-20-2008 02:34 PM

what she does

Tyler 02-20-2008 02:47 PM

Tarja's tone was irritating.

Poet 02-20-2008 03:04 PM
Yes it is. Annette's version was probably one of the best things vocally she did on that album, but that's totally a Tarja song. Having Annette sing the high parts in the very beginning was a bad idea...

Hell, even Marco's ****in' demo version is a bit better than Annette for the chorus.
The demo was awesome, lol.

As for the beginning, it was the soprano boy singing the high parts, not Annette.

Shattered_Future 02-20-2008 09:04 PM

Castration: the secret behind many of traditional and power metal's greatest singers

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kd1-c7kHdis&feature=related

Shattered_Future 02-20-2008 09:17 PM
Well, yeah, but dude. That's still messed up.
Daniel Heiman and Fabio Lione are both castrati

Stop hatin

Shattered_Future 02-20-2008 09:22 PM

I'm not hating, but that dude on The Poet And The Pendulum hits notes that even most sopranos can't hit. That's ****ed up no matter how you spin it.

Steerpike 02-20-2008 09:25 PM

The only thing the line-up change has really done has made me hate Nightwish fans more than I already did. I mean, they were already showing up at concerts with tears painted on their cheeks and trying to convince me that Wish I Had an Angel was the best song on Once. Now they're sending the band death threats and calling Anette a slut for not dressing like a nun.

Marco still rules. That's all I really care about.

lol

I know

I remember hearing what sounded like a mezzo-soprano for a video game score and then, when I saw the behind the scenes footage, it was some 14-year old skinny-fat boy with really short hair

I freaked out

Shattered_Future 02-20-2008 09:30 PM

Really? Tarja had some pretty slutty outfits too...what about that one with all the lacing on the arms she wore on the DVD? Or that leather one-piece thing?

Annette had more clothing on at the show we were at than Tarja ever did. Reminded me of Bjork quite a bit.

Steerpike 02-20-2008 09:35 PM

Did you see the footage of when they performed at Lowlands in 2005? There went the last shred of dignity. The only decent part was when they dedicated a song to Andre from After Forever when they found out he was in the audience. Too bad it was Wish I Had... but it's the thought that counts, right?

More to my original point, have you ever noticed a correllation between female fronted bands and idiot fans?

Shattered_Future 02-20-2008 09:41 PM

I think I have that Lowlands video...I don't remember if from '05 or '06, but I know I have one. I should dig it out.

But yes, female fronted bands tend to have legions of idiot gothic girls following their every move and generall douching up the music for the rest of us. There was so much vinyl and leather at the Nightwish show I was at, I thought I was gonna get blinded every time they shone lights into the audience.

There were 2 Hasidic Jews at that show, however, which provided many laughs.

When I first heard it I was like, "Is that Annette doing that?" Then I heard the rest of the song and realized, "Holy shit, that is the soprano boy singing that.

It's not limited to dumpy white goth girls, though.

There's also the scrawny Hot Topic goth boys who attach their ideal woman fantasies to these singers.

At first, I thought Evanescence fans were the worst offenders of this stereotype, but Nightwish's fans are working very hard to catch up.

I know someone like that, but he's gay and must like Nightwish for some other reason

Steerpike 02-21-2008 11:34 AM

Still I think we can all agree that among the echelons of idiot fans, if ever there was a group of them who we just want to put their genitals into a paper shredder... it's juggalos.

Wouldn't the plural of 'juggalo' be 'juggali'?

idk

from the wikipedia article
On February 1, 2006, alleged Juggalo Jacob Robida engaged in a series of hatchet attacks and a shooting spree which left three dead, including himself and a police officer. ICP has released a statement in which they revile Robida's actions and extended their condolences to the families of his victims.
Idk which is more loserly: these law-abiding ICP posers or the guy whose shooting spree was inspired by that shitty, shitty band.

Tyr 02-21-2008 01:34 PM

If you treat it like a Spanish word the plural will be 'juggalos'. If Italian, 'juggali'.
There's also the scrawny Hot Topic goth boys who attach their ideal woman fantasies to these singers.
I'm not gonna lie, but I totally wish I had a girlfriend who would dress in corsets and leather one pieces.

Then again, that would require me to have a girlfriend to begin with...

:(

But yeah, 95% of Nightwish fans are complete brain dead morons. Then there's the few who actually respect the musicality behind all the makeup.

ZapatoDiablo 02-21-2008 11:52 PM

I have a friend who is a Nightwish fan, he is an obese black man. Doesn't really fit the mold I guess. He actually talked to Marco on the phone once before a gig here and asked Marco if they were going to play Ghost Love Score, to which Marco said no.

Shattered_Future 02-21-2008 11:56 PM

I think the most black people I've ever seen was at an Machine Head/Arch Enemy show. I was absolutely shocked...

Oh my God, the French version of The Magic Of The Wizard's Dream is HILARIOUS.

BludgeonySteve 02-22-2008 12:18 PM

I think that Blind Guardian should play a large show for only people who can sing very well. Blind Guardian shows usually have good vocals from the audience but there are always so many drunk idiots screaming ****, it's less good than it could be. Imagine a 10 000 person choir. Mmm.

Tyr 02-22-2008 12:51 PM

They have Somewhere Far Beyond which is good, but their other stuff range from okay to bad.

1338 h4x0r 02-22-2008 12:54 PM

It's strange how a sub-genre of metal mirrors music as a whole.

The lamest bands are the ones that everyone loves.

pate 02-22-2008 02:11 PM

BG is great.

They are probably my third favorite Power Metal band behind Lost Horizon and Kamelot.

Deth 02-22-2008 02:48 PM

I think I listen to Blind Guardian more than any other power metal band. I love them.

I was working out in the gym to "And Then There Was Silence". Most epic workout ever.

I agree wholeheartedly about Lost Horizon and Kamelot.

I've tried very hard to like Blind Guardian, because I really like their lyrical content, but it hasn't been a success so far

That is amazing. :)

I forgot to add.....Rhapsody (OF FIRE!!!!) may actually be my third fav. power metal band.

1338 h4x0r 02-22-2008 03:24 PM

They get the #1 spot in my book for power metal.

And by book I mean 'gilded tome of arcane lore'.

And by 'gilded tome of arcane lore', I really mean my last.fm page.

ZapatoDiablo 02-22-2008 03:30 PM

Gilden tome sounds better tbh. After listening to a lot of other bands, I've realized that Sonata Arctica is still my favorite for power metal.
