Ello everyone. How are you all?
|
Which the one against Beastie Boys? I thought it was quite good, seeing as it's true.
Your lack of argument really, about rap not being music. |
Beastie Boys are ****ing great
|
Your lack of argument really, about rap not being music.
Oh, that. You're wrong  |
Hm..Ill assume your all doing well..? Gilmour, I now see why you (and many others) like Pink Floyd. I've been listening to them a lot recently, theres only a few songs I don't really like. Empty Spaces/Young Lust and The Trial are my favorites though (I only have a copy of the wall).
|
Listen to Dogs, it totally changed my view of the band :thumb:
/me goes to work now  |
I'm doin fantastic, Pink Floyd is really good, but they're too weird for me.
|
Oh, that. I'm wrong :upset:
Fixed. |
Dogs eh? What album? Have fun at work, I'm glad your doing well, Vikingcore. I'm doing somewhat decent, I'm just sick of everyone Bitching at me all the time. All I get all day is shit from everyone, it gets old.
Edit: You all are excluded from the previous statement, I dont think any of you have given me shit. :) |
Dogs is off Animals (duh) :p
I hate finals weeks :( /gives you shit |

I would if I had access to it, I have no cash, and I don't think my dad has it here, so I can't steal it.
/gives you ****
Mm..shit :) I didn't mean giving me shit literially(sp?), just bitching for no reason because they're all pricks.. |
Animals is a great album, but it freaked me out on the first couple o listens.
|
Everyone needs to hear Elvenefris, then they will realize how much rap sucks in comparison.
|
I just found out that the exploited has been added to the Metal-Archives, which really surprised me.
Now don't get me wrong, I love the exploited but I always thought they were punk/hardcore. |
Rap is about the lyrics, it's like poetry, read my list, that stuff is good (beastie boys just funny). It isn't about music, so shut up, don't be so close minded and stop trying to get people to stop listening to what you don't like.

Hi, guys...I had to read an entire book over Thanksgiving break for Biodiversity and completely forgot about it until that class today, and I read NONE of it. I still have a tension headache from shaking in fear of being exposed in the middle of class.
|
meh this argument is still going on?
i just watched this subtilted film called dark water and it was ****E |
Everyone needs to hear Elvenefris, then they will realize how much rap sucks in comparison.
...No shit, Elvenfris is better. But no one is comparing rap and metal. All we're saying is that rap is a form of music and that it can be good. |

What book? I may have read it, I have about 3 full shelves in my room of books. |
I have like 12. :D I love reading.
Anyway, the book was called Win-Win Ecology, by Michael Rozensweig. |

Which was my point in the first place. Rap isn't music, it's a bunch of lyrics. If I want poetry, I'll go read some poetry. If I want music, I'll listen to some music. Makes sense, doesn't it? |

I agree, though I'm not the least bit fond of rap. I think its because I avoid it and havn't heard people on your list. But mainstream rap (to my knoledge) has the worst lyrics imaginable. Pure egotism, 'woo I have money so I'm going to write a song about it' ect...No possiable topic less fit for lyrics. And Eminem..what kind of person writes a whole song about their name? (theres more in it I assume but I can't make out what he says nor do I have the will to) Am I just rambling mindlessly or does anyone at least partially agree with me? |
meh yeh i guess, but i admire eminems early work alot
he alwats gives me a laugh |

No. Poetry is not always focused on rhythm and rhyme. Flow is more important in rap. Poetry readings are nice, but in no way comparable to rap. I think Eminem is quite comical lyrically. He has pretty fair lyrics as well. |
Whatever, my English teacher said that rap is basicly poetry, I agree.
EVEREYBODY Check out K-OS Best rapper of all time. |
check out esQuire, funniest rapper ever, he supported electric six he was making everyone piss
he was actually gay it was so funny |

Well as they said, that's just mainstream rap with the bling blang garbage. But still, if it consists of a dude talking rythmically, no matter how good what he says is, I don't want to hear it if I'm looking for music. It's faster to just read what the guy says if you want to know. |

I have no problem with rap as a musical style, but I have a huge problem with its current subject matter. The way I see it, rap was very well on its way to developing a highly influential social consciousness in the late '80s, with bands like Public Enemy rapping about social injustice like the LAPD killing innocent black people simply on the basis of the percieved criminal intent of said individuals. It was shaping up to be a very vital, important cultural revolution. Then what happens? Gansta rap comes along and brings the gang wars, drug addictions, and horrible sex-related disease and hardship of the inner cities to the mainstream, and treats ALL of it as something to be respected, with a scant few rappers, like 2pac, sticking with the social consciousness direction. The "pimp" legend followed that and totally sunk rap and perpetuated every possible stereotype of the modern 20-something black man. Just ridiculous. Now we have black people dreaming of being these people instead of productive members of society, and thanks to us and our continuing prejudices, that's all they feel like they CAN be. That and basketball players. But that whole era of rap, in my opinion, just made the whole situation worse, reinforcing white prejudice while perpetuating the downward spiral of inner city life. All these idiots like Nelly need to see Boyz N The Hood or something. I hate modern rap not because it's hard to listen to, but because its subject matter is repugnant. Anyways, I know I probably generalized a lot, so if anybody takes issue with my idea of the situation, I'd be happy to discuss. That's just the way I see the trend developing. |
Whatever, my English teacher said that rap is basicly poetry, I agree.
Any good lyrics are poetic. The Doors' music is also labeled as poetry, that doesn't make it true. I would argue that your English teacher may not be the most intelligent person. |
