I went to a jazz club on Tuesday and saw an awesome band featuring probably the best drummer I've ever seen.

Shtein 11-24-2005 06:06 AM

You catch the band name? I also have this wicked Jazz/Blues CD that my dad got from his friend, I'll try and upload.

You should do that man. I've been dying for a good blues band for awhile now. And Jazz just rules, always.

The Band was called Vital Information. The drummer was called Steve Smith.

I got the pretty girl at the cd shop's number, by requesting a British import cd (The Only One's, to be precise) and then making a terrible faux paus about drumming.

Her: "I've always wanted to play drums"
Me: "You should come around sometime, you could play with my kit" (before realized my terrible double-entendre, then at exact point of realization saying that"totally came out wrong" and turning beetroot)

Fancy Jazz druming is all ways harder than 4/4 Rock drumming.

It's all about the beats man!

He was absolutely crazy. Not only did he manage to make 4 minute drum solos interesting he was showboating like mad.

RIP Ian Curtis 11-24-2005 08:47 AM

The two things I don't like about jazz drummers. Solos and showboating. Scratch that, things I don't like about jazz in general. Especially drummers, we're supposed to be more noble than that, sitting aloof in our thrones of imitation leather and steel, far removed from the vulgarities of notes and singing. Especially because NOBODY LISTENS TO MUSIC FOR THE DRUMS! 80% of your role as a drummer is to keep the band in time, if you can make it a little more interesting for everyone then fine, but no-one actually cares about you, and you get all the ugliest groupies and no-one wants to interview you. Face this fact, and become, like me, a zen drummer.

Happy Thanksgiving, homos.

Haha, now Steve Smith is a football player, a basketball player, and a drummer.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Bread.

I listen to music for the bass and drums, mostly.

Angry Balled Fists! 11-24-2005 10:43 AM

Er, from the convo from before, i like Zakath, we used to argue but we get on now and he's ok.

I've nearly done all my exams now :)

Subvert_bassist 11-24-2005 11:40 AM

I don't listen to music for the drums specifically, but having good drums in a songs definately makes the song better for me.

_JR 11-24-2005 11:58 AM

drums dont make the song, but they certainly make a good song an awesome song.I cant stand a lot of bands even if they have talented frontmen, if their drumbeat is boring.

Happy Turkey Holocaust.

Anxious 11-24-2005 12:11 PM

I can't wait to eat turkey...

Brain Toad 11-24-2005 12:13 PM

I hate turkeys. If you stand in the meat section at the grocery store long enough, you start to get pissed off at turkeys. There's turkey ham, turkey bologna, turkey pastrami. Someone needs to tell the turkey: man, just be yourself. I already like you, little brother. You do not need to emulate the other animals. I used to draw you. (Stares at hand.) Man, if you were missing a couple of fingers, you drew one ****ed-up turkey. You'd be like, "That turkey's been in an accident."

Me and Mitch Hedberg wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.

Anxious 11-24-2005 12:14 PM

When I started reading that, I knew you couldn't write that. Then I read the bottom.
<_<

I can never get my humor just like Mitch, so if it's hilarious, its usually me quoting him. But that's one of my favourite jokes because I can just imagine the ****ed up turkeys.

Anxious 11-24-2005 12:19 PM

I'm gonna draw a ****ed up turkey right now.

I'm part of a Mitch community on LJ (omg emo) and one person got their parents to agree to having placemarkers that have a ****ed up turkey for Thanksgiving.

AIRIC 11-24-2005 12:24 PM
