The Z Custom or A Custom is definitely the way to go.

MeaninglessPhoto 04-15-2008 08:50 AM

I would say Z Custom. Try out the Mega Bell Ride.

Or try out the new Sabian APX 24" ride.

A Custom Ping Ride.

My 16" DH Stagg crash broke recently in an on stage fall by my trumpeter. So i am looking for a nice new cymbal.. yey...

Anyway, i plan to try a few out at my local but they don't stock many different brands and sizes. I'm Looking for a 16" crash that has a really quick decay. Explosive at first but the sound stops really quickly. I'm really bad with my terminology. I appologize.

If it helps i am a really big fan of; Wuhan, Stagg(higher end) and Istanbul. I do like my cymbals from the big 3 but really any brand will do.

A Custom fast crash or AAXplosion?

SkaRabbit 04-16-2008 10:19 PM

I was planning on trying the A Custom fast as that one of the cymbals they DO stock. Not a bad price either. They only have the 16" in though. i wouldn't mind trying a 17" or 18"

Cheers

Lostandfound2 04-23-2008 07:40 AM

man studio sabians are awesome

oliv_da_skinmasher 04-23-2008 07:42 AM

yes they are. Try the AAX 18" studio crash. It's orgasmic

ant_182 05-08-2008 03:07 PM

X Hats, I'm thinking something small. 12"? Crispy I supose.

Panopticon 05-08-2008 03:32 PM

panda i definitely recommend the fast crash.

bcnickels 05-08-2008 03:46 PM

i got an 18" medium zildjian A crash and its a little deep and rings out to long.....was thinking a 14 or 15" A custom fast crash.......any e-pinions?

bobby__johnny 05-08-2008 04:36 PM

a 14" or 15" crash may be fine for solo play....however, if your playing live and unmiced, many situations, it wouldnt be enough. keep what you have regardless. add on what you feel nessessary.

ant_182 05-09-2008 05:59 AM

17 is the smallest crash I'd use. I prefer 19"s though. Possibly a 16 could do it. Or get a "fast" Crash?

fishbulb 05-13-2008 09:16 PM

I'm looking for a glassy splash that would go well in Prog. stuff like Porcupine Tree. I like the Paragon splashes as well as the 2002, what else should i look into?

Inkstar 05-14-2008 02:22 AM

AAX Stage hats... mmmmmmmm...

crazyguy832 05-14-2008 08:00 AM

fishy... Honestly, I highly reccomend the 8" AAX splash. The thing rings out with a quick "splish" and then dissapears. Very thin, but it cuts and dissapears in an instant. Make sure to try a few out, cause I still haven't tried one that sounds as good as the one I bought. Good splash, though.

Failing that, look at 8 or 9 inch A Custom splashes. Also incredibly glassy, possibly more so (I don't like them myself... got this love/hate thing going with the A Custom line, haha).

My favorite cymbal I've ever had (behind my China High 18"), my Vault 17", suddenly developed a crack from the outside edge to about 3/4ths of an inch directly towards the bell of the cymbal. I'm heart broken. LUCKILY, I just sold my rack for around $300. I wanted to get new pedals but I suppose I'll stick with my Elims for now and replace this crash. I'd like something similar (but bigger) to the dark complex sound of a vault. I like thinner crashes (though not as thin as some Bosphorus, as I do play mostly hard rock and metal.) Suggestions?

Harrow 05-14-2008 02:25 PM

18" Byzance dark crash.

ant_182 05-14-2008 02:34 PM

18" K Dark Crashes

Fuzzy 05-16-2008 08:58 PM

Thanks for the help there! Still looking around though... Can anyone recommend alternatives (sounding similar) to a Sabian Vault Crash cymbal?

I'm thinking Dream and Saluda. Personal experience would be nice!

fishbulb 05-17-2008 01:03 AM

The vault series are based off of the A Custom line, no? So try a 17" A Custom crash?

Fuzzy 05-17-2008 06:39 AM

:P I have one

How about an 18" Meinl MB20 crash Fuzzy? :o

PandaDrummer 05-18-2008 10:04 AM
panda i definitely recommend the fast crash.

Zildjian A 12" Special Recording Hats
I cant seem to find them anywhere other than ebay every now and then, is there anywhere that stocks them in the UK?

MonorailCat 05-19-2008 11:52 AM

Hey guys, I'm looking into adding a third crash to my set. The cymbals I have right now are:
13" HHX Groove Hats, 17" AA Medium-thin crash, 16" AAX Studio Crash, 21" AA Raw Bell Dry Ride, 14" ZBT China, 10" XS20 Splash.
I suppose I'm looking for a crash thats gonna cut through more then my others. I was thinking maybe trying out the new Sabian APX series. I don't think i'm looking bigger then 17" unless an 18" is amazing for its price. Well, thanks for the help

ant_182 05-19-2008 01:38 PM

What sound are you after?

MonorailCat 05-19-2008 02:08 PM

Ehh, more bright than dark I suppose. So that'll probably be a 16". Other than tone, I'm really looking for something thats a good cut through music, but not something overbearing the Metal-X series.

ant_182 05-19-2008 02:12 PM

17 or 18 A custom crashes?
