He became mentally ill from overdosing on acid and various other drugs. He could hardly even think for himself anymore.
You don't know what you're talking about.
I don't believe he did. He actually was Floyd's quitarist for only about two years, before he got addicted to LSD. Even when he tried to quit, his friends spiked is tea with it. So his guitar playing and singing pretty much turned into live sets of plinking an occasional note and maybe singing a lyric that may or may not be in the song they were playing. They picked up David Gilmour as a guitarist originally only for live shows, and Syd would continue to write songs and sing/play guitar in the studio. But that also went sour, as he eventually couldn't even focus in the studio. The most common story is that the band was going to pick him up for a show, and Roger Waters just said "Keep going" when they got to his house. He still lives with his wife (or sister, i can't remember) somewhere in England. They wrote most of the album Wish You Were Here for him, not just the song (unless that's what you meant) I don't think he ever checked into an asylum.
You know what you're talking about. :thumb:

Syd was a little schizo(sp?) to begin with he should never takin any psychedelic drugs in the first place. Then again one of my best friends thinks I'm bipolar and even if I am I'm not going to stop shrooming. (or future LSD) (*_*)

Uhh, yeah I do. It's just that my post was about 1/10 of Trav's, in which I put it in the simplest turns to understand.

He did take acid, along with LSD and other things. He did become mentally ill due to the drugs, hence why he could no longer participate with the band. The drugs were consuming him from the inside, and he couldn't think normally any longer.

What part isn't true?

Rounder 08-23-2005 09:54 PM

He was imbalanced long before. The drugs just made it worse.

Uploaded in Other Music, but with no traffic there hardly I didn't want it to go to waste. They're sort of a cross between Floyd and Porcupine Tree in a way, but with alot more synth.

Rounder is right. He was already strange to begin with. He didn't OD on anything and Syd had no problems with other drugs other than psychedelics. (and weed) Sorry if that seened a little mean. :-/

Wow, being told I know what I'm talking about aout Syd Barrett from Schyma... that's a real honor :) Most of it I've either picked up on here or read in the Cracked Ballad of Syd Story... I'm thinking about getting that Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett story DVD, I saw it in a store about an hour from here, along with Live in Pompeii
/should've gotten 'em when I saw them :upset:

"Careful with that Thread, Eugene" is a good one. It'll warn noobs to be "careful" with this thread. /pun-z0rs omgsh

So is "The Great Thread in the Sky". My support: It sounds cool.

But we've gotta add "Pink Floyd" at the end.

And remember, there's a thread title limit so "Several Species of Small Rockin' Users Gathered In a Thread and Postin 'bout Some Floyd" is probably eliminated.

Josh 08-24-2005 02:39 PM

why not "The Great Pink Floyd thread in the Sky"? i suppose its a bit...boring, and predictable, but it has a song title bit and all the other stuff.

in other news, Comfortably Numb is now one of my favourite songs :D

magicbus 08-24-2005 02:43 PM

So are the thread names still changing? I thought they were going to be left as they are.

I bolded the ones that I personally like. It's tough to decide between them though.

Here's some that I thought up by myself (well, except for the exact same lyrics) (warning: they may be terrible):

"In the thread?"
"The post war thread"
"Posts on the wing"
"Converteth me to lamb cutlets"
"Charade, you are!"
"If you can hear this whispering, you are dying"
"Us and Them"
"The lunatic is in my thread" -- I think this is the best one I have thought of so far.

My AIM profile is just the Fearless lyrics. Everyone who is talking to me is like "What is that in your profile" and I say "A song" and they're like "oh it sounds good, who's it by?" and I say "Pink Floyd" and they just say "Oh." For some reason hearing a weird sounding band name scares some folks ****less. So I went ahead and credited Floyd at the bottom to save folks the trouble
Oh, and I went ahead and narrowed my personal favorite list to Top... *countses on fingerses*... 7. The list in my other post was just a compendium of all the "serious" suggestions.

Actually, what she whispers is "I never said I was afraid of dying." If you turn it way up and listen closely, you can tell.

/nitpicky

I think the best choice is Dark Side of the Forum. It's cool, catchy, and obvious. Casual Pink Floyd Fans may not recognize the more obscure ones, but everyone knows Dark Side of the Moon.

In other news, I am downloading the 8 gig The Wall Live performance over bit torrent. If the seeders keep it supported, it will be done in 2 days. If not, it will take me a month to download :-/.

Too big to YSI... danm. Well, if there are particularly cool parts, could you possibly cut certain parts of the video out and upload them? I'd give you many many e-favors.

Well, she says "I never said I was afraid of dying" at one point of the song, but at another point she says "If you can hear this whispering you are dying." So, for someone who's nitpicky, you're actually wrong. However, I do agree that Dark Side of the Forum would work. As much as I love some of the other suggestions, DSOTF is cool sounding and when someone sees it, they know it's floyd.

No, I'm pretty sure she doesn't say that on the album at all.

It's at about 3:33 into the song. Just turn up the volume.

Funny, that's the exact time she says "I never said I was afraid of dying".
