So yeah. Saw Terminator Salvation. It was shit.

gaslight 06-07-2009 06:29 AM

Yeah I've heard 99% bad things about it.

sgrevs 06-07-2009 07:02 AM

Played at Come Together yesterday. I didn't realise it was an all ages show, average age of people there must have been 16, most of them blonde girls who all looked exactly the same. Weird stuff. Show went well, crowd wasn't very big but the stage in the big top is enormous, and we were only using half of it. Good day all round, Spod was really funny, Cloud Control were good, Datarock rocked, Juggernauts sucked, sound was terrible for them for some reason. Spent most time on the rides though, all free and good times. How has everyones long weekend been?

gaslight 06-07-2009 07:10 AM

Sounds fun dude.

I watched a few rugby matches, slept and played with my guitar.

gaslight 06-07-2009 10:41 AM

Now I'm watching the ICC 20/20 World Cup. I sure hope England get eliminated right now.

Aes820 06-08-2009 02:20 AM

I just got back from a climbing trip in the blueys. To read some heavy news about Jonny Copp and Micah Dash.

gaslight 06-08-2009 02:58 AM

Heavy as :(. Hope they're found safe and sound.

horseypie 06-08-2009 05:12 AM

hey gas, do you know anywhere i can grab guitar tabs for the futurist by something for kate? theres a few of their songs id like to learn but no tabs and i cant play stuff from ear or anything
ive seen that ozmusictabs place and ug and stuff but nothing for the futurist :(

gaslight 06-08-2009 05:20 AM

Hey man. Nah not off the top of my head. Back in the day the best site for SFK tabs was www.sfkforthenovice.com but I dunno if it's still running. I'll check after I post this but by then it'll be too late.

horseypie 06-08-2009 05:55 AM

cheers mate theres a fair few there hey, didnt know about that one. thanks

and yeah i wish there was a tab for the futurist :( such a good song

gaslight 06-08-2009 05:59 AM

Yeah I love Paul's guitar work.

I'm really excited for his solo album, comes out August I believe. Hopefully I'll catch him live too. Such a cool guy, love everything about that band. When I was like 15 I tried to copy his handwriting. Haha.

horseypie 06-08-2009 06:08 AM

hha really? niice

yeah im heaps keen for his new album too, out the airlock is such a good song. i started to teach myself that from the video but only got the verse part down
but yeah, some of their songs arent the best but i like most of them. i only have the murmer years, beautiful sharks and the official fiction though

Meatplow 06-08-2009 06:10 AM

haha wtf

gaslight 06-08-2009 06:14 AM

Beautiful Sharks is probably my favourite album of theirs. Their sound really changed a lot after Echolalia, and during it I suppose. It's healthy to keep changing though. You should grab Elsewhere For Eight Minutes it's a cracker.

I've never really learnt to play much of their stuff. I meant to tab all of the bass for Beautiful Sharks as a project for myself but never got around to doing it. I learnt the guitar riff to The Astronaut, that's a nice one.

Do you have their DVD? It's pretty sweet.

gaslight 06-08-2009 06:14 AM
haha wtf
Most of their albums tracklisting and so on is done in his handwriting, it's a pretty cool script.

i dunno, i think i prefer the official fiction over beautiful sharks. they were so slow and dark on BS,some songs are a bit boring i think and drag out a bit. tOF is a bit brighter but still dark, if you get me? i dunno...maybe its more commercial or something. i really wanna get echolalia but i cant find a download anywhere so im gunna probs have to buy it haha
that said easy is such a kick *** song.

have you listened to bon iver yet gas?

gaslight 06-08-2009 06:27 AM

I've heard the Bon Iver song that is with the auto-tune layers but that's all.

It's funny about The Official Fiction, I didn't really like how produced it was with all the fancy stuff, though, all that extra stuff was kind of the point of that album I think so I don't make much of a fuss about it. I found Desert Lights pretty refreshing afterwards because it went back to that more stripped back rock sound. All good albums though.

horseypie 06-08-2009 06:31 AM

you should check more out hes really good. kinda tiger panic-y i guess kinda, maybe, only he sings. haha. although you probs cant compare the two haha

and yeah i love that layered, textured sound they kinda went for. i love big music like that haha :)

gaslight 06-08-2009 06:34 AM

I'd like to play around with an auto-tune one day, seems like a bit of fun.

I'm going to do some collaborations with different singers eventually before I possibly get around to learning to sing myself.

Meatplow 06-08-2009 07:10 AM

I spent about a week teaching myself how to use auto-tune, it's a lot more complicated then people give it credit for. At the very least, the performer has to sing *mostly* in key then it's all hassling around with scales and cents.

Other you can make that silly T-Pain effect with no bother.

gaslight 06-08-2009 07:23 AM

Singers who can't sing in key are terrible.

I was in studio once with an engineer after doing some tracks for a singer and someone asks him "...you can autotune this right?" and the engineer sort of squeezes the bridge of his noses and goes "well, you have to be at least close in the first place".

Haha.

I quite like the artificial autotune when that's the sound people are after, like Autotune The News or whatever. Real singers should be able to hit their notes though, otherwise it's just a bad performance. All hinges on intent really.

EDIT: He only had one nose.

blueyxd 06-08-2009 05:03 PM

I've been trying to do that extreme autotune lately but can't figure it out. I have managed to vocode through the guitar.
By the way, did I tell anyone I got a new guitar?
Same as this one
A friend reckons I should put a 5 on the end of the headstock

gaslight 06-08-2009 05:14 PM

That kind of autotune is more done by pitch shifting an audio signal through a keyboard controller or similar than my individually tweaking notes. Check out the vids of the Electro Harmonix Voicebox unit.

That's a pretty sleek looking guitar.

horseypie 06-08-2009 05:44 PM

sup dudes
waiting at work for one of the engineers to come and tell me what i need to do next :( surfing the net makes me feel heaps slack atm

gaslight 06-08-2009 05:50 PM

Not much man been up all night, I don't think I get tired like a normal person anymore. I can get away with it today because Tuesday isn't a work night. I've had very few shifts and rehearsals lately and those are the only things that keep me to a schedule. I'll run a few errands later, money and guitar related.

horseypie 06-08-2009 06:44 PM

lol
makes you sound like youre a mob worker or something

RunAmokRampant 06-08-2009 08:28 PM

The dude from Cynic uses autotune right? I think it's quite effective.

And I love South Park's Kanye West parody that overuses the autotune. Gold.

I'm more a player than a game-watcher. I get angry and yell at the TV if I watch a game, even when alone. That's why I don't talk about it all that much. I can't wait to go back to playing though.

I'm training for it at the moment. Trying to get a balance of bulk, speed and low body-fat is hard. Aim is to be 92kg, but 7% body-fat. When you're 6'0" it's hard to still have speed when you're bigger. Speaking of which, I'm going to go swim 2km at lunch.

ps. I'm dropping fat pretty quickly now I've stopped drinking alcohol. Today is Day-18.
The dude from Cynic uses autotune right? I think it's quite effective.
Nay, that's vocoding, aka "the Daft Punk effect". There was no autotune back when Cynic first did it.
