Metallica stopped being metal years and years ago, they doesn't mean they suck or anything, I'm just saying, calling Metallica a "metal" band is no longer true.
Yes it is. |
Exactly. I hear people who call them country rock because they have heard "Mama Said" and "Low Man's Lyric" played on the radio. Even if they do have some country sounding songs on their latest albums, songs like "The Unforgiven II", "Outlaw Torn" and "Until It Sleeps" prove that they are still a metal band, despite the fact they are no longer Thrash.

Well you know how I feel about genres and arguing about them, but facts are facts.
I find most of the people who say "OMG Metallica aren't metal!" are metal elitist idiots who simply say that because they feel like Metallica is tainting their precious genre just because they've been progressively getting worse as a band. Or, they could be some pseudo-intellectual idiot who wants to argue something subjective and stupid like "Metallica is pop." They aren't hard rock, they aren't pop, they're metal, period. St. Anger was in fact their hardest album in a while, it just sucked. |
James is a very, very solid rythym player, and he writes alot.
Kirk is a decent lead guitarist, but really has to be kicked in the arse to write something decent (this is well documented). Given the choice, I'd take Hetfield > Hammet in my band any day of the week.
of course. Hetfield wrote everything great metallica has ever done(pretty much). Except for the early Mustaine songs. Hammett is good, but could be replaced easily. |
Hahaha. Anyway I havent been in this thread that long and I was wondering if Metallica was making a new album anytime soon.
Dunno...hope not because It'll be like St.Anger |

Let's hope they learned their lesson. Metallica is still a salvageble band. James needs to start drinking again, Lars needs to expand his kit and take some drumming lessons, Trujillo I can't say anything because the poor guy hasn't even had a chance to write anything yet, and Hammett needs to go back to Satch for a refresher course on soloing, right after he gets Lennox Lewis to teach him how to punch Lars in the face whenever he becomes too controlling. No solos my arse." |
One more thing: The Master of Puppets solo is the most kick *** solo I've ever heard..
You still got a lot to learn... |

I've heard somewhere in this thread that Metallica and Slayer are both recording new albums in Jan 2005 (NO not together). I can't ****ing wait and as i said before, anything closer to their roots the St.Anger and i'll be stoked |
Yes, Lars needs to stop being a ***** and start practising his double bass.
|

I think Trujillo could get some more credit if you could actually hear his bass rather than being drowned out by too trebly scooped midded guitars (does that make sense?) |
On live shows you can hear his bass clearly, you could't hear it on St Anger cos bob rock was playing
|
Lars can play the double fine... Demonstrated on the song St. Anger and the tour they are on now... But for christs sake... I hope they get back on track and not release an album under complete pressure... I think Rob will help out in the creative process, they obviously know to get back into solos after the lashing they got from st. anger, and with solos come naturally better music... I'll always love metallica, and i think we are do for a creative burst from the guys... James' lyrics on the anger were complete crap, and...bleh..Don't want to get started...But yeah, i think we are in for a treat.
^^^
Quoted from the Metallica concert review. That's bullshit. Godsmack is a great band and shouldn't be tied in with nu metal.
They classify themselves as nu metal buddy :thumb: |
On live shows you can hear his bass clearly, you could't hear it on St Anger cos bob rock was playing
It pissed me off when I heard that, Trujillo is a perfectly capable bassist. |
hey does anyone know what songs they don't play live? i heard My Friend of Misery they almost never play live and even so never play all of it. i'm almost certain they never play "Escape" anymore even though it is a good song.
|
Let's just hope the rest of the band punches Lars and Bob Rock everytime they mention the phrase, "Solos hurt the creative process".
|
the only song i liked off st anger was the unamed feeling.
Metallica stopped being metal years and years ago, they doesn't mean they suck or anything, I'm just saying, calling Metallica a "metal" band is no longer true.
Yeah, I think it's more progessive rock > hardcore rock. When I think Metal, I think aggressive lyrics with brutally mixed instruments, and that's not really what Metallica-of-late has been........ |

a couple of questions for you guys if you dont mind.
why dont they play Turn The Page live? i think its a really good song.. and whats going on with lars? i have a clip where metallica plays "Enter Sandman" with joey from slipknot as the drummer... what happend to lars? |
dont know if it's been said but: what do we think about the load and reload album?
|
I don't like those CDs. It has been discussed 100 times. You'll get a lot of "harcore" Metallica fans saying they sold out big time then and that it's a disgrace to music.
|
They didn't sell out. They never have. They just made some crappy albums.
|

I have load and reload and there is some cool songs on there like load: the house that jack built, hero of the day, king nothing and bleeding me. Reload: slither, fuel, the unforgiven II and bad seed |

God,
I just wish they'd go back to their roots. It's funny... I got a article in GW prior to the release of St. Anger. And Hammett said something to the effect of... their going to be composing music like they did in their early days. I've yet to hear the resemblance. Hammett was good at blazing solos backed by James' solid riffs. WTF happened? We all fell in love with "Metallica." Why alter the style and sound of the music that started a metal militia!!! Yea yea, times change, fads change... blah blah! I listen to more old school metal than all this new **** combined, regardless of what they bring to the table. Old metallica will still be kickass 20 years from now. They set the bar!! |
Wow, nothing gets by you.
|
theres no such thing as old metallica
metallica are metallica you could tell what album a met song is just by listening to the stylr, lyrics and james voice. there is supposed to be a new album coming out with no leaf clover any one who has heard or seen s&m will no what its about so the "new" metallica will soon be the "old" metallica again |
Of course there is such a thing as old metallica.
|

They have been playing turn the page here and there on the current leg of the Madly In Anger With the World tour, and Lars was temporarily sick, so Joey, Slayer's drummer, and Metallica's drum tech filled in for a night. |
do you have all the albums (exept form st anger) to date
|
If you're talking to me, yes I have them all.
|

Master of Puppets, Orion. Although I like the Dream Theater cover better (only because there is no vocal. all the other covers they did suck because of LaBrie.) |
