I don't believe he did. He actually was Floyd's quitarist for only about two years, before he got addicted to LSD. Even when he tried to quit, his friends spiked is tea with it. So his guitar playing and singing pretty much turned into live sets of plinking an occasional note and maybe singing a lyric that may or may not be in the song they were playing. They picked up David Gilmour as a guitarist originally only for live shows, and Syd would continue to write songs and sing/play guitar in the studio. But that also went sour, as he eventually couldn't even focus in the studio. The most common story is that the band was going to pick him up for a show, and Roger Waters just said "Keep going" when they got to his house. He still lives with his wife (or sister, i can't remember) somewhere in England. They wrote most of the album Wish You Were Here for him, not just the song (unless that's what you meant) I don't think he ever checked into an asylum.

He became mentally ill from overdosing on acid and various other drugs. He could hardly even think for himself anymore.

How about this. We copy and paste all the ideas from post to post. Then, you add a "point" to whatever idea you like. To prevent cheating, after you post you need to add your screen name and which idea you voted for at the bottom of the list. So, if names duplicated, we'd just cancel out the last post they made.
