Gandhi said it best...
"God is at the top of the mountain. Whether you go up the Hindu north side of the mountain, or the Christan south side of the mountain, or any other religious pass of the mountain, the only thing that matters is that you get to the top of the mountain" Hindu, that's interesting. Where do you live? and where do you worship? my city just built a new hindu temple, it's the only one for a radius of like 50 miles or so. I want to go check it out, but i dunno that i'm allowed in.
nice quote, that's exactly what I believe in. Every religion is a path to the same goal. I live in Delaware haha, we have a prayer room at home, but there is a temple near us that i go to every once in a while... I'm Hindu in that I believe in the concepts it puts forth - karma, reincarnation, monotheisism, nonviolence, etc. The epic poems like the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita I view in the same way as I view the Bible - not to be taken literally, like you said. And don't worry about "being allowed in" or anything like that. Aside from Buddhism, Hinduism is probably the most chill religion there is. Walk into the temple and you'll most probably be welcomed. We're not against any other religions. And don't worry, we won't try to convert you either. |
Who needs religon except to serve a selfish desire for eternal survival? How about being a good human just for the sake of being a good human? You dont need a god for that.

I like you Chippy.

thanks :D i like you too.

Anyone know if that comes with a standard pearl mount thing, or can i put an L rod clamp on it?
i believe it says it comes with "tom rossette" which would be the 7/8" "pearl" mount... but there's nothing saying you can't take it off and put on a different one. |
Hmm Except even a moderate study into the various different religious structures makes such a possibility impossible. For starters - You just mixed mono- and poly-theistic beliefs. Thus making for a not possible. 2 things that believe 100% different things, can not lead to the same place. I'm sorry, that would leave you under the clinical deffinition of insane. You can't get in a car and drive to target, and your friend drive to k-mart, and you both end up at homedepot. What's MORE interesting AND true, is the presupposition behind the statement. That there is something a 'god' or 'gods' out there.... or store ti drive to if you will. |

I don't believe in a god. I was raised as a Catholic (well, that's a pretty big stretch. I was baptised, then went to church 3 or 4 times a year, and that was it) but have moved away from the belief.
On the smaller scale of things (aka, personal use, not causing conflict or wars) I have no beef with any religion. If you believe in a god, that's fine with me. But on the other hand, I suppose I believe in a higher power, and I suppose I have a set of guidelines on which I base the decisions in my life. I believe in the Earth in the same way that many believe in a bearded man in the sky. I believe the Earth always comes first, to sort of "serve" the Earth. The Earth definitively holds our lives in it's hands. I don't think there's any debate on that. I think we can all agree on it, and therefore, I focus my time and effort to that cause. Does that make me "religious" ? I wouldn't say so. I don't pray, I don't worship (apart from taking walks through forested areas, going camping, etc), but I do believe in a higher power, something that truly does hold our lives in it's hands, and if we serve it badly, we will unfortunately feel the "wrath" of it. /hippy rant. |
Religion is stupid. Somebody tells you something to believe in and you can't think for yourself.

Link to the rudimental cookbook anyone?

I go to church because it's a great community. The people who go to a given church, usually have at least moral values in common, so everyone in a church has an easy time getting along. I met my girlfriend at church. My church is HUGE on service projects. This week, we decked out our old worship space with some decor, as well as sleeping bags and pillows, and then roasted up 10 turkeys, to host the homeless in the area (it's through some shelter organization... beats me). Each of our choirs did bell-ringing and caroling at local shops for salvation army. We had a volunteer group go to Feed My Starving Children tuesday, wednesday, and thursday (today) to package food. And, on top of that, the money raised at collection was spread across 28 different shelters, nursing homes, women's shelters, and vet support centers in the community. My church has a program called "Music in the Grove" for Christian (and not-so-christian) artists. We've had Tonic Sol Fa, Sarah Hart, Pilliar, and a bunch of choral groups do concerts in our church. Once a year, the local school district's top choir does a sellout concert in our church. My church has a 24 hour support system for parishiners and non-parishiners. A team of volunteers has a little office near the main door, that anyone is free to walk in to chat at anytime. My church has supported my drumming for the past 3 years. My church has given me an average audience of 600 people a weekend, with over 3000 over this Christmas Eve. My church has open bible study. Got a question? Wednesday, 6pm in the sanctuary. Often times, either our priest or a guest speaker will have a presentation on a topic of the week, and then after that there's "open discussion." now why shouldn't i go to church again? |
wow, that shut everyone up. :o

Odin, the greatest of all the Gods.
 We played Marvel Alliance the other day for a couple hours (I never play video games by myself, but when 4 or 5 of us get together, we never have anything better to do :( ) and I was Thor. The son of Odin. Some of the things he says in that game are hilarious. Well, all of them are. But his big hammer slam move is awesome. |
Odin is like, the most awesome of all gods.
You are thinking way too narrowly. The paths are quite different - ultimately, they will end up in the same place.
Maybe if you look at everything literally, it may seem insane. But God is the ultimate target. Sure some religions are polytheistic, but all those different gods are just symbols of the one true God.
haha thinking too narrowly? No my friend. There is no narrow or wide to it. A given religious sect belives one thing. Other ones believe completelly different things. Now look at your last statement - now youv'e gone and altered what those different religous groups beleive. In effect, no longer making them what they are. Then you've interjected your own belief into it. By deffinition a poly-theistic religon can NOT co-exist with a mono-theistic religion. BTW everything must be taken literally. Otherwise it is relitive. And relitivism doesn't work. Anyway that's about all I'll say ont he subject, because when you listen to the people who are well schooled and studied in the subject of multiple religious and cults, it's a very different discussion. And the concept of "all leading to the same place" is a immature, or better yet, veyr miss-informed utopian thought, unfortuantly one that would contradict almost all the reilgions it encompasses. |
I don't remember the circumstances which left me with a bag of cheetos and infestation of ants on the sidewalk, but I ended up trying it.
