yea well according to some people mary magdalene was jesus's girlfriend or whatever and according to the bible or the people who wrote it or something she was a whore that tried to tempt him... so going with the whore story because most nuns would probably believe that one... what do you expect... their convent has the sluttiest namesake imaginable

Janeway 12-28-2006 01:02 AM

What a rude thing to say.

You're going to hell, nobcheese.

And I'm going to bed. An hour early.

Nighty night.

wesm9787 12-28-2006 01:09 AM

I'm going to hell with you with that point, my friend.

Chippy569 12-28-2006 02:08 AM

you know what i don't understand....
let's make a quick blanket statement. Everything "Religious," i'm going to call "intelligent design." for the sake of my argument, the world is at science vs. intelligent design.

-On evolution. What seems more intelligent to you? A billion hand-created things, or an entire elaborate system with DNA and mutations that creates a billion things out of just one?

I believe in evolution. I believe in God. I believe God created evolution. Evolution, to me, seems a hell of a lot more complex and "intelligent" than anything we know yet.

Now why can't we relate this to all science? Why is it always this science vs. religion? What if God created the laws of physics, and "Science" is really just the process of understanding how God works?
I mean... that seems a lot more like a "creator" to me.

i dunno, what do y'all think?

PandaDrummer 12-28-2006 02:12 AM

i think that is what I kinda believe. i believe evolution exists in a form but in classes, cause the bible talks about creating different classes like "birds" and "fish" and then "man" but I think then then evolved and became diverse. I mean they had to if we had 1 man and 1 woman how do we have 3 major human catagories (5 all together i think) and countless changing species.

zfzgg 12-28-2006 03:22 AM

I liken religion to a small childs bedtime stories. -Seems far to childish for me to even bother considering thinking about possibly maybe believing (on the off-chance...)

Wise words.
Pretty much how I think of it.

CasB 12-28-2006 04:19 AM

I do not believe in god. I pretty much hate religion because it is the cause of many, many wars.

I think it's okay to believe in something, but I can't stand people who act 'in the name of god'. That is utter bullcr4p, cause you can't do something and then blame some something that it's his fault. It's your own responsibility...

maniac0796 12-28-2006 05:16 AM

Like all these extremist Muslims....

CasB 12-28-2006 05:55 AM

Not to mention al the christians: "Thank you god", "I wanna praise the lord for making this possible". Wake up! You did it yourself. No higher force made you do things...it's all in your own hands... And this goes for all religions...

maniac0796 12-28-2006 06:05 AM

Religion = bullshit

I love how one of the christian arguments against the big bang theory is that "you can't get something from nothing.2 Yet when i reversed this question from an atheist point of view (which i am) against the existance of god, the answer was "god has always been there"
me: "but you just said you can't get something from nothing"
RE teacher: "God is an exception"
Me: "piss off, this completely contradicts your argument"
Re Teacher: "No, god is the universe, the big bang had to of come from something, and if god is the universe then it can't of happened"
Me: "no, you're just contradicting yourself.

There are two kinds of christians... those who take God literally, and those who take God metaphorically.

Was there ever a man named Jesus? yeah, probably.
Did he make the blind see, the deaf hear, the water wine, himself walk on water? who knows.
Was he a really really cool dude, a "role model"? Yeah, i'll buy that.
Did he get crucified for his behaviors and beliefs? Sure, but that's the trend of humanity... see, MLK Jr. got assassinated, so did Gandhi....

I believe the Bible is an all-encompassing metaphor about how to live one's life, kinda like a glorified Self-Help book.

people who take the bible literally, word for word, i think, are nuts.

the Old Testament is just another creation story (and then history novel). Every, let me repeat that, EVERY culture has a creation story... be it that we all arrived on Turtles from the Apache tradition, or that we came from another planet from the Inuit tradition... well the Judeo-Christian tradition is adam and eve.
Beyond that, these "higher powers" serve to explain the unexplainable. For example.... before Newton.... "Why did the apple fall on my head?" "God was upset at you."

What caused the Big Bang? well, no one knows, or will know. See? God did it.

so did i, but it's rude to laugh..

no comments on my Jesus thoughts?

Sync0pation 12-28-2006 10:33 AM

There is nothing to argue really, you said it fine.

The Bible could be viewed as a self help book I guess, But I still believe there is an underlying godly consciousness behind it all (I am hindu btw, but I believe in all religions, that there is God behind them all)

Quinto 12-28-2006 10:35 AM

my comment is that god is bullcrap, and the people who thank him are aasmonkeys.

if you thank him for doing good why dont you telll him to go feckhimself for giving you bad. and for the most part the people who are way in to god are the worst off. if god is so great why doesnt he make everyone who doesnt believe in him shlt lives, and all the black people that are in to him realy heavy good lives. but not! he doesn t instead all the most brilliant and richest people in the world dont believe in god, and all the blacks who are stuck on hell in earth around ghettos of the world are destined to live a **** life. god is bulls shlt

Chippy569 12-28-2006 10:37 AM

Gandhi said it best...

"God is at the top of the mountain. Whether you go up the Hindu north side of the mountain, or the Christan south side of the mountain, or any other religious pass of the mountain, the only thing that matters is that you get to the top of the mountain"

Hindu, that's interesting. Where do you live? and where do you worship?

my city just built a new hindu temple, it's the only one for a radius of like 50 miles or so. I want to go check it out, but i dunno that i'm allowed in.

Janeway 12-28-2006 10:44 AM

Aw, shit.

I thought it was really good, too. =/

Oh well. You're stuck with me.
