I've got no problem with the idea of 35" but 34" is what both my basses are and it's always seemed okay to me.
|
I've always felt that the strings were too loose on a 34", even with heavy strings. Maybe I just play too agressively....naaaahhh
|
Haha.
34" is perfectly playable so the problem has to be on your end I'm afraid :p. |
[quote=gaslight;17496740]Haha.

I feel it gives me more dynamic control for when I want to dig in, or I can play nice and light. 34" scale and medium-light strings is preferred for tapping though. |
If there's too much tension though, I really don't like the feel of it. I naturally pick near the bridge, so it feels like my hand is putting in far too much overtime trying to play them if they're too tight. My bass is 34 and that's fine, though I think I'm going fanned for the next one.
I like the pickup height and everything, so I'm not going to change that. But this bass is going in for a couple of small jobs when I've got another one I can use in the meantime - I use it far too much to be away from it for a week. Might get him to make a cover for it then. |
Playing with a pick is totally different. The attack on the strings is much closer to parallel with the fretboard as opposed to fingers, which are generally at more of an angle. Plus, you are able to play more comfortably near the bridge than with fingers.
Just the same, a pickup cover is going to do loads for you. You could even make one yourself - buy some cheap wood at a hardware store, place the location of the poles, drill (not all the way through) just enough to fit the holes, and voila! The cover will act like a cap, of sorts. |
I play with a pick aroud 80% of the time anyway. But I play pretty much over the bridge pickup when I'm playing aggressive music. I don't know if that's odd or not D: Just seems to be the place where I can get the quickest attack, bitiest sound and least sustain, which is what I want for what I play a lot of the time.
If I'm going to get a pickup cover made though, I'd want it to be the same wood as the bass, or something complimentary. I don't think Jon has any of that Madrone left :( |
Ooh, new poweramp just arrived ^_^

Only thing is I love the look of exposed pole piece MM pickups :O

Then get him to put a clear epoxy over it or file the pole pieces flush. |

That's a lot of lights for a single rack. |
yeah thats when you know you've really wasted your money :p
|
Pro-Tools 8 or Logic Pro 9?
|
Pro-Tools
w00t! Bass sold on eBay for $520. That pays for my Spector 6 AND the pickup installation on the Schecter! sweet! |
Logic.
The new one looks sick. Plus if you don't already have an mbox or the like, you'll need to buy one. |

lolbanned |
Haha, it's pedals, not a rack.
|
I thought it was a Tool light show.
|
And yeah, it is a waste of money. Everything in this hobby is ;) All hobbies are! And it isn't as much of a waste in the long run as drinking or smoking or whatever. Which I don't do. So... yeah :)
|
On ya with that one dude.
Pedal boards are an awesome thing to be addicted too. Even if you don't use a pedal even 95% of the time, there's still the option of having it. In other news, after years of being stubborn and buying cheap, no-name mp3 players of places like ebay...I've finally sold out and bought a 120gb iPod classic(the only iPod worth having imo). In before Raayl calls me out for buying overpriced trendy garbage. |
I got a refurbed (from the Apple site) 160gb classic, and I am more than satisfied.
|
I still rock my 80GB Zune.
But when your uncle works for MicroSoft's marketing company, you tend to get MS products cheap and you never really care to complain. |
I'm still disappointed that Creative bowed out of the large capacity MP3 player game.
|
Yeah. I used to have a Zen that I really liked.
|
I've got a 60GB Zen that I still love to pieces. Should it ever bite the dust I'll probably get an X-Fi 2 and just stick in the biggest micro SD memory card I can find.
I figure I've got a 1TB external hard drive to store music on so it wouldn't be the end of the world to have to exercise a bit of discipline in what music I carried around with me. |

Yeah, that surprised me too. Their Zen competed quite well against the iPod before Zune hit the scene, and, especially with the first generation Zune, they didn't take a hit at all. Maybe they saw that they couldn't compete with the MS/Apple OS, the MS/Apple marketing, or the MS/Apple name, and they pulled out before they went under. |
It's a shame whatever the reason was because their audio quality is the absolute best in the MP3 player business.
Mine has been through the wars, I've full on stepped on it ages back and the screen is ruined for video watching purposes (it's the Zen Vision:M to be specific) but I never really wanted it for videos so I just put up with it. If it ain't broke don't touch yo wallet. |

New Spector comes in today and my Aria leaves tomorrow (and I come out $51 ahead! sweet!). Now I just need to write up the eBay ad for the Carvin and get that beast going as well. EDIT: I have no idea why I quoted you on that. I think it was an accident. |
