Think it might have been.

APX is out.
:thumb: And it's still seven. Their Signature line is professional grade (at least parts of it :smash: ). |
it's out but not in stores till May-ish
Okay I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm probably gonna start looking for a new ride.
I love my 22" A Ping Ride but it doesn't record very well. I thought ping was what I wanted but I figured I want a washier ride, at least for recording, maybe even for live applications. So I'm looking for a big ride (around 22") that is powerful but less pingy then an A Ping Ride. Not too bright. Something darker works too. Just to let you know, stores in my area sell Sabian, Zildjian, Paiste, Istanbul, Bospherous, and Amedia. |
HHX Stage ride?
21" A Sweet Ride? Or a 22" A Custom Ride?
Haha, don't feel bad, Seafroggys. There are times when I don't like my ping ride all too much, either. It suits a few types of music very well and is passable for most others (fortunately, I play in a style which it works very well for).
I agree with the HHX stage ride. That thing is secks. |

Not a fan of either. The HHX is one I can try out though. I think GC may have one. |
Damn I just tried a 24" K Thin Dark Ride, that is one of the nicest rides I have ever heard. I am really on the fence between that and the manhattan. Good luck seafroggy's. Hey wanna trade cymbals? I have a 21" AA Dry Ride, it is in the for sale section.
Pretty sure its not that much different from an A Ping, to be honest.
24" K Thin Dark Ride sounds pretty fantastic, though. But probably too thin for my tastes. I'm also a fan of A Medium Rides as well. |
What are peoples thoughts on the A Earth Ride?
I'm looking for a pingy ride to cut through in metal bands. What are some other possible rides. Cheers |
Earth Rides are pingy as hell. Theres very little wash. I never played mine with a band though.
Okay so I guess I lied about getting a new ride.
While recording my album I tried wooden tipped sticks with a big tip, and yeah the ride records MUCH nicer! |

Quite a big if. They aint exactly around much
22" K Heavy.
Earth rides are great secondary rides, not primary imo. That being said, I know a band where the drummer used an earth ride as his only ride and it sounded great recorded.
JoJo Mayer's 21" Fierce Ride is worth looking into for ping.
mmmm jojo fierce ride. i think im going to get one with my tax return =]
nope instead i just ordered a pair of HHX groove hats. =]
looking for a china thats high volume, and trashy. 20 inch preferrably. i want something similar to the pasite signature heavy china but 340 is way to much. wuhan is an option but i realy dont think they have the vollume i need.
20" Z Custom.
20" A Custom. 20" AAX. 20" AA. 20" HHX. All REALLY nice chinas. Out of the bunch, I'd personally reccomend the Z Custom or AA. |
i own the 18 AA and i like it but i think i need something a bit punchier. i might have to go for the AAXtreme but in a 19 or something.
Paragon chinas are nice but i'm not sure how trashy they are and they're essentially more expensive Wuhans with Neil Peart's name on them.
The 19" one is yeah. But I do believe the 20" one is totally different. Could be wrong tho
i'm looking at a new china sooner or later.
not sure if i wanna stick with the trusty 18" AA or AAX, or if i wanna try something different and get like a 19" AAXtreme. ...or save my money and get an 18" or 20" HHX..... as for my other china, i have a 16" AA, and 18" Carmine Appice Sig (wanting to replace that) |
Hhx
you cant go wrong with an 18" AAX.
aye. i'm trying to find one that mixes with my cymbals....but the catch is....my cymbals are a blend of bright and dark sounds
edit: to tim's post
i had read this yesterday and decided not to recommend the pargaon china simply because it doesn't really sound like the paiste sig heavy china. i personally love my paragon chinas. they are one of the few cymbals i would buy again if all mine got destroyed. the 19" has a more trashy sound and is modeled after the wuhans that peart used to use. i personally think there is no comparison between a wuhan and paragon china. the paragon is much cleaner and articulate though still maintaining it's trashy sound. the 20" is a more traditional gong-like china. very nice, but very different from the 19" also i didn't recommend the 19" because tim was looking for a high volume one. the paragons are about standard volume chinas. |
