good rats 04-04-2005 10:27 PM

Cya.

Has anyone here had any experience with the Ibanez SR405, or the SR505? I'm thinking about getting one for my next bass, but I've heard that it's only a 34" scale, so the Low B would be floppy. Is this true or not?

Omega Red 04-04-2005 10:34 PM

I so own dis forum

good rats 04-04-2005 10:38 PM

Unless it's a neck thru... it'll definitely be floppy. I'd say just go for a 35" scale if you can. Or try it out at any music store if they might have them in stock. I personally haven't had any experience with this bass yet.

good rats 04-04-2005 11:32 PM

Hmmm, I think I'll look into the Sr905, that's neck through, or I might look into the Yamaha TRB1005. Hopefully I can get the Yamaha a lot cheaper from my mates dad how can get it straight from the supplier.

Why would bolt-on or neck-through make any difference to tension in the strings?

MasterofBass 04-05-2005 12:17 AM
Why would bolt-on or neck-through make any difference to tension in the strings?
Somebody once told me that a neck thru, being one piece, will allow more sustain and would affect the tension in a more positive way, but I'd still go for a 35" regardless. I should investigate this matter myself next chance I get.

good rats 04-05-2005 12:25 AM

Alright guys. I'm just getting some opinions here. Which bass should I go for?

OR
http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/default.aspx?Pg=21&ProductCode=SR905NTF

Of course with the Yamaha, I would need to save for a bit more.

morpcat 04-05-2005 12:26 AM

A neck-through helps sustain by allowing more vibration to pass into the body of the bass. It doesn't affect the tension in any way.

good rats 04-05-2005 01:07 AM

Anyone here wanna help us out with my question?

kilian 04-05-2005 01:09 AM

I would go with the Yamaha, because it is a neck through and Yamaha's are better to mod than Ibanez basses.. Ibanez has it's own stuff, where you can use on Yamaha other stuff.

madthumbs 04-05-2005 01:17 AM

i havnt posted in this thread for ages.

good rats 04-05-2005 01:17 AM

This Yamhy is a bolt on. I think I'll go with the Yammy cause it's a 35" scale, so the low B would be nice and tight, and it's sexy.

good rats 04-05-2005 01:18 AM

Gday Madthumbs, wanna contribute to my question?

madthumbs 04-05-2005 01:26 AM

id go with the yamaha, just beucase i love that finish. But the ibanez is a good bass. Id have to try them both out.

Oh I have quite the idea.

morpcat 04-05-2005 02:12 AM

I was enjoying myself just a couple of minutes ago... :naughty:

popinfresh 04-05-2005 02:44 AM

Joe: Might be joining the 400+ club very soon. If not, it'l be the lonesome Sunn 300T club for me :p

I'm checking out some cabs tomorow, a 410 loaded with EV's and a Mesa diesel 210. I'm considering getting both instead of my 1516. Or getting the 210 instead of my SWR 210 and using that for band pracs/stage moniter. If I took both cabs and sold my Mesa 1516 and SWR's.. I'd have about $2500-$3000 for my amp. If I took the 210, i'd have about $1700-$2200. So i'll see.

good rats 04-05-2005 03:08 AM

That's awesome Popinfresh. If I didn't need a bass so bad I'd be grabbing that 2x10" off you.

Rollo47 04-05-2005 03:27 AM

Hey All

How are we?

good rats 04-05-2005 03:29 AM

Hey dude. I'm going pretty good, looking around for a nice, second bass. Yourself?

exit 04-05-2005 04:13 AM

hey, im fine

which kind if bass are you looking for?

good rats 04-05-2005 04:18 AM

I'm really looking into the Yamaha TRB1005 (http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/products/p_musical/guitars/electric/page3_bass/page3_TRB.asp#TRB1005)

Or the Ibanez SR905. (http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/default.aspx?Pg=21&ProductCode=SR905NTF)

The Yamaha is a bit more expensive, so I'll have to wait for a bit longer to get the money, but my mates dad also knows a lot of peolpe at Yamaha, so he'll probably be able to get me a lot off.

exit 04-05-2005 04:19 AM

gotta eat now,

ill check them out when i return

exit 04-05-2005 04:54 AM

back

i would go with the ibanez

i played a couple of bart MK1 pickups this weekend and i absolutely loved it

lemoley 04-05-2005 05:09 AM

hey guys hows it going
