Google it, that's how I learnt to do it.

But to make that picture black and white, open it with MS paint, and save it as a Monochrome Bitmap image.

or open it with Photoshop (if you have it), then click image, click adjustments, then click de-saturate. then fiddle with the brightness/contrast (which is in the same list as de-saturate)
well, i would except theres like 38458 different techniques and i have literally no idea what to look for. How would you go about doing it with that image i posted?
Okay i need some help, i got a silk screening kit but i have NO idea how to turn an image into a workable one for a t-shirt. People always say how silk screening allows for complicated designs to be inked on but so far it seems that i can get the same results with a paper stencil, sponge and fabric paint. I wanna turn this image (black and white though) onto a t-shirt. Can someone plllleeease explain how to do this? Thanks.

Hey, I can help you. I screen print myself and trust me, it allows for greater detail to be placed on shirts, patches, and such.

Assuming you have Photoshop, go Image >adjustments > threshold and play around with the threshold bar level. If you do not have Photoshop I'm not really sure.

So, you're probably gonna want your image to look along the lines of this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v352/lynchme/mdcblackwhite.jpg

Play around with the image size depending on how big you'd like it to be.

I was asking you to take pictures of the pinhole pictures, because I wanted to see how well they turned out.

I know what you ment.
I have to get them developed first.
Its on 35mm Film.

bleep_bloop 04-15-2007 02:09 AM

wait how did you use 35 mm film with a pinhole camera?

edit: oh wait, i got confusedd. im stupid.

Jon 04-15-2007 07:07 AM

You can use Filter->Cutout after thresholds, makes it look better.

There are a million ways to make better stencils though, Thresholds is just the tip of the iceberg.

Eran: what's the law like on flyposting/general putting up posters?
I like, need to put my band posters up around town, but it seems self-defeating if it has our band name/website/gigs we're playing on it, because to prosecute us wouldn't even require the blue turning up when we're posting =/

reckon they're less likely to give a shit if you flypost where there are lots of other fly-postings?

Thanks! Yeah i got the image to be black and white and the size i want. What im having trouble with is that i dont know how to actually apply the image onto a t-shirt with the silk screening kit. If you could explain this or link me to a page that shows me how I'd really appreciate it. Thanks for the help, man.

This is a good one that helped me out. http://nomediakings.org/doityourself/howto_silkscreen_posters_and_shirts.html

You may have to go out any buy a few simple items if you don't already have them. This should include:

- Your kit (I assume this comes with the screen, photo emulsion bottle, photo emulsion remover, squeegee) Make sure the photo emulsion gets refrigerated too.
- any color of fabric ink
- 150 watt light bulb
- over head lamp that can handle the 150 lightbulb
- "overhead" paper (transparent paper) to print your black and white image onto

At the very least this is what you need. Some manuals and tutorials go into great lengths of possible materials. However, I just do it with the materials mentions above, and the results are the same for me. If you find that tutorial confusing or have questions just ask here and I'll try to explain as best as I can. I had a lot of questions when I started this too. It's not as overwhelming as it may seem.

thanks alot, it's nice to see a really helpful working forum for once.

Jon 04-15-2007 01:21 PM

don't you have a library at school/college?

I got out like 5 huge screenprinting books and just tried to absorb some of the stuff from there.

but like, with screenprinting especially, nothing beats getting shown it hands on. never made sense in my head until i did.

Agreed.

lynch_me 04-15-2007 01:54 PM

Yup, if you do it right it'll turn out just like that. Screenprinting is sweet like that because allows for greater detail.

yourstruly 04-16-2007 03:31 AM

a 500w halogen lamp should be fine for exposing, right? i'm just about to buy one which is exactly the same as this guy i was talking to used for his screen printing.

asdf 04-16-2007 06:29 PM

Well, I've finally invested money in my tallbike idea. I was going to make it last summer, but lacked adequate bike parts. Now I just spent 15 dollars on a bike, and I think it'll be compatable with another frame I have.

Although as soon as I brought it home I broke it, but whatever. I think I can fix it again.

KillCynics 04-16-2007 06:59 PM
That is such a bada'ss stencil. I'd be very impressed if I saw anyone wearing that shirt, or wearing that as a patch. Looks like you've got your work cut-out for you to make that, but if it comes out good, it'll look very awesome.:thumb:
hah yeah i know, its might be alittle ambitious for a first printing ever but thats out weighed by its sheer kick a'ssitude.

I guess so. Just ask him how long you should should leave it under the light for. I know with 150w it only needs to be under for an hour, so I would imagine a 500w would be a lot less.

yourstruly 04-17-2007 01:31 AM

Yeah, he said he left his for around 9 minutes.

heyimsheep1 04-17-2007 10:27 PM

By the way, if you're looking for blank stickers, spend the 10 minutes that it takes to sign up and order free supplies from UPS.com. Same goes with USPS and DHL.
I got 6000+ delivered today...

6000 stickers?? How would you put images on blank stickers anyways?

heyimsheep1 04-18-2007 02:32 PM

I ordered 4 formats and 2 of them look like they're made to be put through printers. But my main reason for getting them is for spraying stencils.

Sam 04-18-2007 02:40 PM

This is probably the wrong place for this but do you punks know any good hostels to stay at for a night in Philadelphia? My friend and I are gonna need to stay overnight somewhere when we go see Lighting Bolt.

The Ska Man 04-18-2007 05:29 PM

Find yourself a hotel, it can't be too hard. Plus they have websites for this sorta thing.

www.hotels.com is one, I think

yourstruly 04-18-2007 09:21 PM

i've bought most of the stuff i need for screen printing now. i just need chemical type stuff and ink.

I don't know if there are hostels in Philadelphia. You could stay in a really crappy motel or if it's nice enough, go for a park bench.

Jon 04-19-2007 04:26 PM

Ahhh, good to see that stencilpunks are still putting out utter trash stencils that look they were designed by a 5 year old.

Nothing's changed then :)

For UPS you gotta sign up here https://www.ups.com/one-to-one/register?sysid=myups&lang=en&langc=US&loc=en_US
Later it'll ask for some reg. number, I figured out later that you have to sign up for that too.
I've heard that there's a chance they'll call you but you can just BS the questions. I'm guessing they only do that in major cities 'cause they never called me.

When you get to the Supply list, go straight to the Internet ones. The rest are mostly garbage if I remember correctly.

I signed up and it was pretty straight forward, but I did see any supply list.
