Apocalyptic Raids 04-17-2005 05:18 AM

Just had a thought. How many of us here have friends who are into Thrash, or even just metal in general?

I have a few friends who are into metal in some form.

One is into Metalcore and Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth and some Slayer.

One is/was a big metalhead (he actually got me into metal), he used to like the big thrash bands, some death metal but these days he seems to be listening to more and more hardcore/metalcore and less metal

One also used to be a big metalhead but now listens to heaps of alt rock. He is/was still a huge a fan of the Gothenburg scene.

One seems to go through phases. 18 months ago it was underground rap, 12 - 6 months ago it was Dimmu, Opeth and Emperor and Melo-death. Now i don't really know what he listens to.

One is into Power metal, Prog rock and Classic rock.

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 05:25 AM

They're not really into metal, but one of them likes Rush, another likes Sabbath and Queen and thats about as heavy as they'll get. I can always convert though :p

Apocalyptic Raids 04-17-2005 05:28 AM

I tried to sublimenly (sp) covert that first guy i talked about by sneaking some old Sepultura and Kreator onto a mix i made to listen to while driving to Megadeth :D

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 05:31 AM

The guy into Rush plays drums, and i'm trying to get a band going with him. I'll probably lend him some Anthrax or Iron Maiden

Riva 04-17-2005 05:32 AM

I have three friends who listen to metal.

One is a nu-metal/metalcore fanatic, one is a "black metal head" who listens to CoF (:p) and the third is a prog-metal fanatic who thinks Symphony X are underground. So yeah, good for me.

In High School, I had a really awesome Thrash/Classic metalhead friend, but he moved to Melbourne. :(

ThrashMaster27 04-17-2005 05:35 AM

Most of my friends are into Metal of some kind, plus I have converted a few people by playing things at partys/gatherings/box socials :p

I'd say most of them are into lighter stuff than me though. Most can't put up with some of the other stuff like most of the aggressive Euro-Thrash. They seem to concentrate on the vocals too much.

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 05:48 AM

Does anyone know any good crossover stuff? I got SOD and Cro-mags covered already, but i need more dammit :p

ThrashMaster27 04-17-2005 05:53 AM

Erm, you could try...

Suicidal Tendancies
Crumbsuckers
D.R.I.

You're best asking the Corporal when he's here. He seems to know a lot about Crossover.

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 05:57 AM

I've got £20 to spend, at the minute i've got in my basket:

Cro-mags - Age Of Quarrell/Best Wishes

ThrashMaster27 04-17-2005 06:02 AM

Well, if you can, I'd suggest getting Suicidal Tendancies - Lights, Camera, Revolution.

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 06:06 AM

I could get it for £4.62 but that Crumbsuckers album is awfully tempting

metal-militia 04-17-2005 06:51 AM

Don't forget ST - Join the Army :thumb:

A know a few people who are into metal. One listens to mote music and likes slipknot :(, one thinks Cradle of Filth are the best black metal band ever :(, and one listens to a bit of thrash. :thumb:

ThrashMaster27 04-17-2005 06:56 AM

Yes, Join The Army is good aswell.

What's that? Southampton are crap? they lose 2-0 leads? hahaha.

DisposableHeroes 04-17-2005 07:11 AM

Alrighty, in the end I got:

Crumbsuckers - Life Of Dreams
Cro-mags - Age Of Quarrell/Best Wishes

metal-militia 04-17-2005 07:52 AM

My band mates and a few other people I know listen to basically all metal, they actually know more bands then I do and are a great resource. Outside of them, uh I don't really know any metal heads, no.

whatduffhuck7 04-17-2005 09:24 AM

i dont know very many thrash fans, but alot of people like hardcore and metalcore music at my school, it sucks balls.

RavenousMetalist87 04-17-2005 09:28 AM
Yeah, it is rather a good setlist. I was rather disappointed yesterday when they didn't play Hook In Mouth...that's one of my fave 'Deth tracks.

I'm not too up on Dew-Scented. They sound interesting enough though. What album would you recommend first?
I have Impact, which appears to be the best of their work so far. I found out about one of the songs through the Armaegedon Over Wacken DVD I have, and I thought Cities of the Dead was a **** good song. Most of the tracks are full out speed assault, and I have to admit the vocals and guitars can get a bit odd, but sometimes I notice some good, quality riffing going on.

If I get the chance, I might rip it on here and try to upload it so you anyone else interested can here.

Well I have a band with three friends - so they all enjoy metal (not all kinds though). They're into Symphony X, Children of Bodom, Dream Theater Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, Testament, Opeth, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Atheist, etc...nothing too obscure or too extreme ala death/black metal. The bassist is also a big fan of prog-rock and shi.t. I have another friend who's at boarding school now and he's into thrash/heavy/power/progressive metal. I basically got all of my friends to listen to metal, and it all started with Iron
Maiden - Aces High.

Edit: New downloads include: Sodom - Persecution Mania and Ulysses Siren - Above the Ashes.
