did you add the solo

Sad But True 07-14-2010 07:21 PM
did you add the solo
yep, and raised the vocals and fixed the limiting and tweaked the guitars and tweaked the master mix/mastering.

I've not changed the snare because there isn't time (launch was today but if it annoys me enough i'll change it later).

Zed_Leppelin 07-14-2010 10:35 PM

sup lod.

I'm looking to BUY (omg.) a recording program of some kind. all I want is something I can record ideas onto easily and fast, has a drum machine that is simple, does not take my wallet and fuck it in the ass.

I basically don't want to fully record songs. Just jot down ideas and loop em up or someshit

Epidemechanical 07-14-2010 11:38 PM

you want to buy a program?

i bet the music youre gonna make will be AWESOME

Zed_Leppelin 07-15-2010 12:10 AM

Ive tried downloadin it. and Ive yet to find one tat works wit win 7

Sad But True 07-15-2010 04:44 AM

Reaper has a massive evaluation period and is pretty awesome/cheap if you do decide to buy it.

Also please have a look/listen at my sideproject please Lod, all opinions/criticism welcome.

bro the solo needs to be like a said before:

maaaahhhheeeeeeee fadahlah leeeeeeeeeee leedalah leedalah meeda meeda meeda laah leeeeeeeee

pretty fast and higher in the mix, you know?

Sad But True 07-15-2010 07:23 AM

Well tbh when we originally wrote it we didn't want a solo, just a riff section, then the harmonics came about just by dicking around, and I didn't want it to become a solo section like the other songs so I kept it quite atmospheric. Did you listen to the others?

The Transporter 07-15-2010 07:27 AM

nah, gimme a minute and i will

the triplet in the intro Hellhound is cool, but I think it'd be more effective if you just used it once as a transition and really smashed it, y'know? right now with it being in there so much, it makes it feel disjointed at times. also, I feel like you should be using harmonies with the second guitarist more. it'd really bring out some of those sludge riffs with a higher melody or riff going with it. outro has a cool idea but it needs some of those ascending bendies on the 2nd and 3rd string two frets apart.

listening to Collection here in aminute will edit with thoughts

Sad But True 07-15-2010 07:39 AM

What part specifically do you mean by the triplet bit?

I know what you mean about making more use of both guitars. there is actually two riffs in there, but they mesh so well, a little too well, it just comes out as a wall of sound style thing.

tripalet can be heard at around ~:20~:21ish. You do it a lot though.

during intro of Collection, I feel like the ambient dealy should come in before vocals, drums, and bass

1:14 section could be a badass piano part. or something higher. I feel like you don't use the high registers enough. your singer has a pretty low voice, and I feel like your guitars should try to counter that some more.

Sad But True 07-15-2010 07:57 AM

Yeah, I didn't want to just do the same thing for the third part of that riff as it were so I did that triplet thing.

What about connection?

The Transporter 07-15-2010 07:59 AM

see edit above

edit: also, I'm not trying to say it's bad the way it is, just offering my thoughts on how to improve future stuff maybe

Sad But True 07-15-2010 08:08 AM

No mate, like I said, all thoughts welcome. I know what you mean though, we didn't have the most time to do these, and I would've loved to do a little bit of piano. If you've got any more thoughts or suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks dude.

EDIT: How are all the volumes to you?

Here is something that I wrote in the past twelve hours instead of studying for my test. I heard the melody and most of the arrangement in my head. I need to work more on the call and response and develop the call and response into more fully fledged ideas, but it's a difficult way to think particularly this is my first attempt in writing in this style. I don't think it came out too bad, I'd like to have access to a better sound set though.

as far as volumes, the only real noticeable thing was that your ambient parts (i.e. the harmonic deal) always seemed a little low in the mix. everything else seemed pretty normal mix wise

You already heard my opinion. Maybe listen to some old ragtime musics for ideas. (lol Bioshock soundtrack). Also it might be cool to add some staticy/lofi filters on it to get that old time sound.
