I only know three so of course I'm gonna recomend SOD
it's pretty easy.

Yea my family went to Dallas about 2 weeks ago...but I ended up staying
here. I go about once a year so we should hook up sometime

Jev 11-02-2005 04:34 PM
Yep chromatics and scales and basic chords are it for a good solid half
a hour. I go through stages where I don't learn alot for a couple weeks
then all of a sudded my playing gets tons better...and I had been waiting
about 3 months so it's all coming together for me.
I'm exactly the same. It sucks when I feel i'm not improving but I love it when I learn loads in a few days.

dr._feelgood 11-02-2005 09:42 PM

I've only started getting into Megadeth a few weeks ago.
My favorite Megadeth song right now would have to be Sweating Bullets.

That's very cool, and I do it always when I play guitar, I'll play the same riff, or solo so many times over, even if I think I have got it (I usually find I don't though :upset: ), but I'm sort of wondering, is there anything I can do to learn to compose my own music? (I know the obvious answer; theory, and I am trying that too, but it's not working so well  ) if I write a song I'll find it's usually always just gay powerchords.. And it's kinda boring me...

Edit: I have most difficulty with picking speed, unfortunately.
I always thought my fretting hard would suffer more, so focused so much on that initially, but now I'm fairly confident in my fretting, I find it's my picking that is holding me back at the moment.

Britton 11-03-2005 01:44 PM

It just takes practice man lots of practice.

To make songs theory really isn't required you learn theory for a better
understanding of music But I wouldn't say it's necisary to make you're own
songs.

I was unable to make my own music (with it sounding good) for the longest
time...but that's only cause it takes time and playing and patiance. theres
stuff you know already that will help you write a song and you don't even know it. For me it's not to hard to make the music..but it's really hard to make word fit to it.

So think of tricks you know find a song that sounds some what what you would like to make then more or less copy that type of structure and just jam and let it build. Never be afraid to try something new expose you're self
to all different types of music

and most of all just be inspired. When you have something and you think it's
ready let some one hear it and ask for opinions

I don't know if this helps...I'm not good with words

Tab things by ear. Start with simple things, but things that you like. For example, I started by tabbing out loads of hardcore punk. Then move on to more complex stuff... like anything... it takes practice but you really get to analyze a song and it gives you ideas for original material, plus having a good ear is a must for being able to translate ideas from your head to your guitar.

It's a great excercise that. Personally I enjoy figuring out Mozart's piano sonatas, but just do whatever takes your fancy.

That's very helpfull info. It allows you to devlope you ear. while
teaching you song sructures and stuff

Jev 11-03-2005 04:10 PM

Hmm I think I may start tabbing by ear.

Britton 11-03-2005 04:11 PM

You really should man it's actually fun.

I did several simple arpeggio type stuff first

Jev 11-03-2005 04:12 PM

I'm thinking of doing it so it can help me identify intervals better. ect. for A level music. Also I need to learn to read sheet music quickly.

Britton 11-03-2005 04:16 PM

I've gotton pretty darn good at that sense my little injury started happening

Jev 11-03-2005 04:17 PM

Little injury? care to eloborate?

metalmilitia101 11-03-2005 04:38 PM
Hmm I think I may start tabbing by ear.
it's not that difficult as some people make it out to be. i usually tab by ear, just because the tabs on the internet these days are mostly horrendous

Britton 11-03-2005 04:43 PM
Little injury? care to eloborate?
I've been getting really fast as of recently (last two weeks)
So my palm has been able to keep up with the speed. SO it's
extremely sore and very difficult to play..so I'm taking a break
and just doing theory

It's nothing serius at the moment but I don't want to take any
chances

Jev 11-03-2005 04:47 PM

Oic, to both of you.
I haven't really had any guitar injuries.

Britton 11-03-2005 04:48 PM

Thank god This isn't too serius

I'll be back at it in a week or two

Mazeppa 11-03-2005 04:49 PM

Once I got I thing that was like a blister, but worse becuase it was trapped under that tough layer of skin which you develop on your fretting fingers. That was so sore I had to avoid playing for a week :(
