Heavy man, what was so bad about the place?

That's cool about teaching though, teaching what?
Is there a notable difference in sound?
To me the highs aren't as tinny.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2009 11:03 AM

We did another song last night... for another EP.

I think we're going to release these additional recordings as the Capital H Group, as they don't necessarily sound completely consistent with what we've been doing in the band, but it's the same people involved. Well, and we can bring in our other friends who are musicians to contribute.

BenJammin 10-25-2009 11:08 AM

Just out of curiosity, Spiff, do you, or your band, ever write songs and then decide not to release them? This isn't a jab or anything, I'm just curious. It seems like every song you write you like enough to release.

In contrast, Jeremy and I have written probably 14 songs total, but are only using 10 of them.

We have a vault of unused songs that we've written. Songs that aren't good enough usually end up getting thrown out and that's why no one ever hears of them.

I don't really talk about the music that I've written that I don't like, it just seems silly. "I wrote this song, but I don't like it, so I'm just going to throw it away." There's not really more to say than that.

The songs that we record usually are ones that we like enough to release. We record them because we like them enough to release them. Even then, we haven't released 100% of the songs we've recorded.

Well, obviously, haha. It's just that you're talking about new songs so often that it seems like everything you write, you keep.

Spaceman Spiff 10-25-2009 01:24 PM
Well, obviously, haha. It's just that you're talking about new songs so often that it seems like everything you write, you keep.
I know, it can definitely seem that way. The thing is that we're always writing. New songs are always in the works. Some of them we like and record, other ones get thrown away, or maybe they get recycled later because they have parts we like but the song just wasn't good enough.

There's no shortage of ideas, that's all. We always have new ideas and we love expanding on them and writing new songs. Making music, really, is what we love to do. Inspiration is everywhere, we haven't hit a wall yet where we can't write.

The other thing is that we don't really have a reason to hold off on releasing stuff once we finish it. Now that we have the equipment to record at my house rather than at our drummer's place, Sam (the bassist) and I are able to record all the stuff that we want to. Songs that have been lying in wait due to not fitting in on the album they were originally written for, and all new stuff, too.

nothing you have released has ever sounded consistent with anything else you've ever been doing as a band.

I just wrote and recorded forty-nine 2-second songs. I think I'll just combine them.

The worst part is there are people in the world who could say that and be serious.

BenJammin 10-26-2009 05:42 AM

Jeremy finished up the vocals to the song we wrote on Saturday. We don't usually do things so fast, but it just really clicked. We saw a really good show on Friday night, so the inspiration was there. It's cool. I think it'll be a fun one to play live.

fatbandit 10-26-2009 11:25 AM

want to quit my job -_-

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2009 11:29 AM

I called in today. After my accidental adventure until 4am last night, there was no way in hell I was going to drive an hour back home, sleep for an hour and a half, get to work by 7:30am, and then with school and everything immediately following, make it through to 9pm.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2009 11:30 AM

By the way, does anybody want to bid on this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1996-Original-MIM-Fender-Jazz-Neck-w-Tuners-and-Tree_W0QQitemZ260493775721QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item3ca6a39369 (remove spaces in url)

?? I always see them go for $125+, so bid bumping isn't too big of a deal. :D

gaslight 10-26-2009 11:30 AM

Heavy dude.

Lately, the inside side of my right hand ring finger has had really really dry skin. Like, for a few months at least. Vitamin E cream does nothing for it.

I doubt it's related to playing or it would have come up ages ago, but for the hell of it, has anything like that ever happened to you guys?

How are the adjacent sides of the pinky & middle fingers? Rough also?

I've not ever had that happen, but you should probably go get one of those little finger condoms from a local drugstore (not actually condoms- http://www.vitalitymedical.com/Product/Duro-Med-White-Latex-Finger-Cots-7800S.html). Put some aloe vera lotion inside of one and wear it for a day.

gaslight 10-26-2009 11:40 AM

Yeah that's the weird part every other finger is fine haha. It's a puzzler.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2009 01:25 PM

Sweet. Just rotated my tires.

Not so sweet. It seems as though somebody just committed suicide w/ a gun at my school. There's no threat to the campus though....we can all continue to go to school.

...

gaslight 10-26-2009 01:26 PM

Damn, you'd think they'd at least put you all on lock down and clean up first.

FunkMetalBass 10-26-2009 01:37 PM

Here's the alert text that I got:
FR: ASU Alert
SUBJ: Suicide Tempe Campus
MSG: There has been a suicide involving a firearm at Architecture South Building, Tempe. There is no threat to the campus.
I have to leave in an hour if I'm going to go to school there. I'm debating skipping class.

BAM! And there's the news coverage...

What a tool, ruining the professor's day (and probably suit) with that kind of ****.

The Brad 10-26-2009 02:25 PM

That sucks, wonder what pushed him over the edge.
Maybe his professor wasn't impressed with the amount of skill required to play Carousel.

 @ left-field Carousel reference.

Epidemechanical 10-27-2009 10:54 AM

so, ive been trying to do new music lately and it just isnt happening. im drained after 3 albums in the past year (cuss, tactus a and starsmog)

so

instead

i'm starting on what i've always wanted to do

a spoken word album/book.

i've got most of the ideas for it, all the monologues - and I've just started organizing them and committing them to writing today.

hopefully it'll be LoLz, entertaining, and interesting for people to really hear how I understand and see the world through my sordid, hateful, ****ed up eyes.

i think im a fairly competent orator and communicator, and i have all the equipment to produce such tracks here. no ****ing webcam ranting either these are honed, condensed essays which ive been cultivating over the course of five years

Epidemechanical 10-27-2009 10:54 AM

oh and yesterday i had the privilege of talking with one of the assistant US attourneys who is working on the Blagojevich case in chicago

very, very interesting

Simple & Elegant.

EDIT: Wow, MX doesn't like the size of that. Made it all pixelated.

BenJammin 10-27-2009 04:17 PM

That your band? Decent poster, man.

Spaceman Spiff 10-27-2009 04:27 PM

Yeah, not bad at all.

FunkMetalBass 10-27-2009 04:32 PM
Yeah, not bad at all.

That your band? Decent poster, man.
Yeah. Thanks, you guys.

We're printing it on the back of our show fliers so that people can see more than just our name amongst other bands on a flier.

It's cool because our vocalist has a degree (an associates, but a degree nonetheless) in marketing and has spent a good amount of time doing graphic design. It's going to help the band tremendously.

BenJammin 10-27-2009 04:55 PM

We're jamming with a real drummer sometime this week, I believe. Finally.

FunkMetalBass 10-28-2009 09:00 AM
We're jamming with a real drummer sometime this week, I believe. Finally.
I love jamming with a drummer - especially when you two start to click and just get a read off of each other.

BenJammin 10-28-2009 09:01 AM

Tbqh, I read more off of my guitar players than anything else.

FunkMetalBass 10-28-2009 09:05 AM
Tbqh, I read more off of my guitar players than anything else.
It's different for everybody, and depending on the group I'm with, I get a different feel for different people. Like in my high school jazz band, I clicked best with an alto sax and the piano.

Are you jamming with guitars and drums or just you and drums?

BenJammin 10-28-2009 09:06 AM

Full band jam. Myself, and the two guitarists.

FunkMetalBass 10-28-2009 09:12 AM
Full band jam. Myself, and the two guitarists.
I always have a lot of trouble with those unless a chord progression or riff is agreed upon prior to jamming. Otherwise it turns into "1-hour solo" time.

funkyhoney 10-28-2009 09:20 AM

Right you are Johnny.

In other news. I just sliced my finger open when trying to remove old candles from their... uhhmm... holder... things.

I was twisting the knife to crack the wax and it folded closed onto my finger. Yup, I'm an idiot.

Moon Flavor 10-28-2009 09:23 AM

^if it's on your fretting hand finger, put a little bit of salt and vinegar on your strings. it degrades the strings a little quicker but it makes the wound heal faster and hurt less when you play it

funkyhoney 10-28-2009 09:35 AM

Nah, index finger on plucking side. Right down the side too.

Should be fine.

And still, why in gods name would I put salt and vinegar on perfectly good strings?
