I'm guessing your favorite is Revolver?

MidnightRider 05-03-2006 04:33 PM

I'm not sure if any of you'll have read Helter Skelter, it's a book about the investigation and trial of Charles Manson, but it's really fascinating how he put God and The Beatles together and basically found a subliminal message for the oncoming of a racial war. He thought that The White Album was a prophesy.

Leper 05-03-2006 06:57 PM

I saw a feature one time in which a reporter did a 1 on 1 interview with him. That guy had balls. I guess there's nothing he could really do to him in a jail with guards around, but still, that guy is pure psycho.

robo2448 05-03-2006 07:19 PM

I've heard that he was a musical genius too. I think Neil Young said he could write songs better and faster than anyone he'd ever seen. But yeah, he was a nut. I'd be interested in reading that book.

Doctor Robert would be such a cool name.

How many of you guys have heard the Gov't Mule cover of She Said She Said?

robo2448 05-04-2006 05:29 PM

I have. It's good. I love Gov't Mule. I've heard them cover a bunch of other Beatles songs too. They do a good cover of Tomorrow Never Knows too.

gmoneyguy 05-04-2006 05:31 PM

Oh really, thats the only Beatles song I have heard them cover.

robo2448 05-04-2006 05:43 PM

Live they toss in a few more covers. From the live shows I've heard, they do around 3-5 covers a night and cover The Beatles more than anyone else. I mean, they don't cover The Beatles every night, but they cover them fairly often.

is my bootleg site. I posted it in the classic rock thread a few weeks ago but you may not have seen it. You can't download anything, but you can stream just about anything. They have dozens of Gov't Mule shows, and I've heard my Beatles covers from streaming assorted shows on there. They also have some great Beatles studio bootlegs on there, mostly just them fooling around on drugs, but its cool to listen to.

My favorite Beatles cover is Tea Leaf Green- I've Got A Feeling.

Speaking of covers, does anyone else really really hate Joe Cockers cover of With A Little Help From My Friends?

Leper 05-08-2006 11:06 PM
Speaking of covers, does anyone else really really hate Joe Cockers cover of With A Little Help From My Friends?
YES.

Everyone always says in here how much they love that cover, but I cannot stand it. I hate Joe Cocker.

Seafroggys 05-08-2006 11:08 PM

yeah, I'm one of those everybody's. In fact, I LOVE that version. Its probably the only Beatles song where the cover > original.

Leper 05-08-2006 11:12 PM

Ugh.

Well, agree to disagree.

Seafroggys 05-08-2006 11:24 PM

His cover of She Came in Through the Bathroom Window was alright, but nothing compared to The Beatles' vastly superior version.

Leper 05-08-2006 11:26 PM

I've never heard that cover. Probably for the best.

thickasabrick 05-08-2006 11:59 PM
Speaking of covers, does anyone else really really hate Joe Cockers cover of With A Little Help From My Friends?
I think he gave a great rendition, but it doesn't really have the same affect on me as the Beatles version does. Maybe it's just because I've listened to the Beatles version so many times before.

Tusk 05-09-2006 12:32 AM

My god.. I fall more and more in love with the Beatles every day. Revolver and Rubber Soul ftf*ckingw.

They have so much great stuff, its really hard to understand sometimes.. how one song after the other can continue to amaze me.

Look at She Said She Said, how the f*ck could any band other than The Beatles pull off a song about a conversation??

Leper 05-09-2006 12:39 AM

A re-occuring statement, no less.

Yeah they truly could write a song about literally anything.

gmoneyguy 05-09-2006 03:05 AM

I dunno as I stated earlier on the page Gov't Mule pulls off a damn good cover of She Said She Said.

Leper 05-10-2006 01:00 AM

I think he was referring more toward writing the song rather than performing it.

pigonthewing82 05-11-2006 05:42 PM

As for Beatles covers I think Hendrix's cover of Day Tripper is amazing. I actually think its better than the Beatles version of it.

On another note I'm obsessed with the song Tomorrow Never Knows, its such a great trippy song.

Jacaranda 05-11-2006 06:38 PM

The only Beatles cover I can think of right now that I like is Siouxsie and the Banshee's "Dear Prudence."

robo2448 05-11-2006 06:53 PM

I have a bunch of Beatles covers. Because I'm a big jamband fan and tons of jambands cover the Beatles. I find that they usually do a pretty good job because they change around the somes and stretch them out a bit. The Breakfast covered Sgt. Pepper's (the entire album) live once.
