It was even better live, on the big screen they had pictures to fit the lyrics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYPiKxlCjmE&search=dream%20theater my favorite part of 8vm title track is razor's edge. when the orchestra comes in, the whole crowd sings along :] |
Wow, nice videos.
|
Man, Octavarium would be amazing live.
|
James just doesn't sound right on Afterlife. :-/ Is it just me that thinks this?
|
Take away my pain=one of the most underrated DT songs.
"Look at poor Gene Kelly, Guess he won't be singing in the rain You can take away my heroes Can you take away my pain?" |
How come DT wont be playing in South East US?

wow derek's better than i thought.
i think it's cool how he plays with the keyboards angled. and i really think JR needs to lose that...moogy, guitar-simulator tone he uses on ToT and his budokan solo...it's absolutely horrible. |

Fantastic writing. I agree about JR's tone. He needs to lose that wah pedal-wannabe guitar tone. |
Take away my pain=one of the most underrated DT songs.
"Look at poor Gene Kelly, Guess he won't be singing in the rain You can take away my heroes Can you take away my pain?"
Agreed. And it's off the most underrated album too. |
im laughing at Charlie, but he sings those songs a hell of a lot better than labrie.
Are you serious? I'll agree he does a decent job to say hes not been singing in 15 years, but LaBrie destroys him. Charlie's voice just doesn't suit DT at all. |
Agreed. And it's off the most underrated album too.
Also Agreed...FII rises in my estimation every time I listen to it. |

I agree that charlie aint that great, but the only thing Labrie destroys is the song. His vibrato is so wide it goes out of tune. Reminds me of those old ladys you'd sit next to in church as a kid. When he has to go high he starts sounding like a castrated elmer fudd replacing his r's with w's. He's so loud in the mix he overpowers everything. They need to fire Labrie and put Sebastian Bach in there. Ever hear the Jacob's Ladder from the Rush tribute Working Man cd? He could totally do prog metal. |

Although still not my favorite album, I do miss the proggy side of DT. |
Also Agreed...FII rises in my estimation every time I listen to it.
Same here. It has some great songs on it that go ignored. |

A lot of people knock Labries voice, but I think its awesome. It can sometimes be a little shakey, but on the whole I think his voice is great live. I don't see how anyone can honestly say they would prefer DT to have kept Dominici. |
I think LaBrie doesn't suit WDADU stuff but he doesn't destroy the songs. And I love it when he sings high, it's just awesome, I wish I could do that.
And Dominici really let himself go... |
I do think if Labrie had been in the band during the writing of WDADU it would have been a much better album. The way in which Dominici sings some of the songs I don't really like at all. For example Only A Matter Of Time, I think its one of the best songs on the album, but I don't like the way the vocals are sung during the verses, the lines contain too many words and are sung too high.

It wasn't his vibrato going out of tune that got me so much as when he tried for some of the high notes but couldn't quite make it so he just ended up terribly flat. "As a child, I thought I could live..." No James, you can't hit that note anymore. |
Sometimes he can. I just think it's very difficult for him now.

On the 8VM tour he's been phenomenal, he even hits the high F# in Learning To Live. |
When was WDADRU recorded?

don't get me wrong, I'm glad they got rid of him too, But I still think DT would be a lot better with a different singer. |
Who could replace LaBrie though.
Hetfield? |
Who could replace LaBrie though.
Hetfield?
no way...kelly clarkson all the way. |
That could be interesting...
|
When was WDADRU recorded?
It was on the ToT tour, so early 2004 is likely. YtseJam says it was recorded March 6, 2004. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbPbFSpntjs&search=dream%20theater
I thought the jam in that was great, except Rudess' crappy poor man's guitar sounding solos. I was really impressed by Sherianian, though, even if the vocals were a bit shoddy. |

He remains my favourite member of DT and my second favourite vocalist, behind Bruce Dickinson. |
