Why?

...You're uh, kidding right? Either A.) You're just ignorant or B.) You're an idiot.

/sees screen name

Oh, you're an AC/DC fan, so both?

But seriously, music is emotion. I mean, you listen to music to feel a sense of something, right? I get depressed when I listen to The Wall, because the insturmentals are so dark, but when I listen to something like Foo Fighters, I feel a sense of uplifting, because all of their songs are so joyous and happy.

ugh ummm I don't like ac/dc anymore, I was a huge fan when I first signed up... almost 2 years ago. And I don't see why that matters anyways

I do agree that music has emotion in it. I feel the effects. But you can't say play with more emotion please, slides and bends does not equal emotion. What may be playing with more emotion to someone may sound like crap to someone else.

For my stance on it: http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=277125

Please read this thread, it may clear up some confusion. I don't think you get my point

I don't see why you called me an idiot or anything. But if that's the way you argue, go ahead.

Okay, I worded it the wrong way with saying that you need to play with some emotion. I know exactly what you mean, but I DO feel that there is a certain feeling that you can put into your playing. Ask any bluesman. You can play the blues no matter how you're feeling, but if you play it a certain way, as if trying to portray a certain feeling or emotion, than it sounds even better, IMO. I don't know, did that make sense?

Flaminghotchino 08-18-2005 04:39 PM

I think time is more intimidating then it is hard. Over the course of the summer I sat down and just learned it. The bends could be a little tricky to get to down, but I don't think it's too bad. As far as Gilmour solo's I know..it's probably the second hardest I know (with the shine on solo's as number 1). The easiest solo's of his imo are the wish you were here intro and the first solo in comfortably numb.

And to respond to thunderstruckz "you can't put emotion to playing" I think I know what he means... Like..Playing with emotion isn't a mechanical thing..it's not something you can just noticably fix like scales, hammer ons, harmonics... things like that.

However I think you can somewhat "put emotion to playing" because you can focus on letting go..and let your emotions shine in the music..hence adding your own twist and a piece of your heart into the song..

But whatever.
Hey, Pink Floyd experts... The other I day, I heard that Division Bell was considered to be one of Pink Floyd's best albums musically. Is this true, and should I buy it?
Yes, it is the best musically
Go buy it, it is WORTH your money

Trust me. I own the album. Take the time to listen to it

a BIG chunk of the Pulse concert was The Division Bell

Wow, that was awesome. Nick really reminded me of John Bonham there, I really have got to buy that DVD. But one thing, didn't Nick sing the lyrics in the studio version? I was going into the video thinking that. But whatever, still cool :thumb: more rep+++ for WheepingGuitar.

Man, that was very well done! I'm quite impressed. That's probably one of my favourite solos, so I may be a little biased but even so. If I am going to learn any solo I'm going to learn that one, although I hate playing other peoples solos. Although I've forced myself to learn a couple Pink Floyd solos, I mainly prefer to improvise my own solos. Nice job though, I really liked it.
I just learned it. I didn't think it was too bad, honestly. That part when you slide up an octave, and are playing all high up... it sounds killer with some delay.

Also, The Division Bell rocks. Buy it.
It isn't to great, you should obviously buy DSOTM or The Wall first, but if you've already got those buy 'Wish You Were Here'

I think he already has those ones.

In other news: I got my guitar pedal AC adapter working again. I'd been using it on batteries for like 2 weeks, and I could only play for a few minutes before they died out.

To celebrate, I played through almost all (skipping Welcome to the Machine) of WYWH :D

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-19-2005 10:39 AM

Haha, that owns. I wish I could play SOYCD. :(

I did learn Us and Them though. That progression is amazingly beautiful.

I can't do all of 6-9 though, so on some parts I just kinda went along with it. But yea, it was still fun nonetheless.

Just by learning a few of his solo's, you yourself will get much better when you improvise on you own. New ideas will open up that you never saw before.
