Complexity does not equal quality. Plus mellow songs can really take any drastic turns by thier nature really, although there were some. Where do you think his voice was off?

The true musicians have all stated what they think. I happen to like Deliverance more also. But that's me.

RouteOne 10-14-2005 09:55 PM

I really dislike "wreath" as an opener to the album. It just seems to go on and on to no point.

Toaster 10-14-2005 09:56 PM

The intro to Closure is a bit off-key (this sounds like it may be intentional, though), during the chorus parts of Hope Leaves he is undeniably off, and Death Whispered a Lullaby has some very odd note choices I would have changed ("where the lost souls hide" sounds like it should have a flat-second rather than a major).

Darkness 10-14-2005 09:56 PM

Wreath is brilliant metal madness at it's finiest. I really love that track. The dragging on is something I love about it.

Hell yeah dude, my band covers that song.

Personaly, I think death whispered a lulliby is the best song on the album. :p

Windowpane is just....wow.

Toaster 10-14-2005 09:58 PM

The end of Master's Apprentices.. the vocals sound so tortured, its one of Opeth's finest moments IMO.

That's one thing I love about Deliverance, it really sounds like Mikael is struggling to rasp every note.

Darkness 10-14-2005 09:59 PM

Yeah Flynn, you should get us a recording of that!

And Hope Leaves is incredibly awesome... I think Death Whispered is my least favorite.

Do this, record the ending of ''By The Pain I See In Others'' and play it backwards. It's the chorus of ''The Master's Apprentices'' it sounds so fucking badass!

The part after the long pause? I've always wondered what that was.. that's truly cool.

Backwards stuff really scares me for some reason.

RouteOne 10-14-2005 10:06 PM

Haha. I was listening to Master's apprentice while falling asleep, and I was in one of those half-awake state of minds, and the part comes up around 7:45 and scared the crap out of me because it goes from nice mellow tones to shitting your pants growls.

Dude try it! It's so cool. I've always wondered what it was too, it's from The Master's Apprentices.

''Soothing trance
Colours fade
And disappear
Ethereal light
Showing me what I can do without''

''Fading away
And leaving
Long for sleep
Closer now
Lead the way into death''

God, I love Deliverance :D

Darkness 10-14-2005 10:32 PM

I love the part when in the song when he goes "Walk with me... wait to see your spirit free..." *all out heavy riffing*. When I saw that live... I nearly died... in a good way! :D

lost_profits 10-14-2005 10:43 PM

bleak would be my favourite on BWP. It's up there with When, April Ethereal and The Moor for me.

I'm sure I asked this a couple times already, but haven't gotten any responses, but is anyone going to see Opeth in Los Angeles/Hollywood tomorrow?

If so, do any of you wanna meet up or something? I'll be there around 7-8 pm, look for a short and skinny guy with a blue polo shirt.

Yeah they played it perfect when I saw them. Everyone went bezerk on double bass cue, it was magical.

azbassman 10-15-2005 04:00 PM

Opeth rearranged some thing and toke the Tempe show out...which mean i dont get to see them. I couldnt go on the Sound of The Underground tour, and now i can go to this.:upset:

wrathchild88 10-15-2005 05:42 PM

has anyone caught them on their latest tour?

do they play mostly new stuff or do they play stuff from blackwater park and before?

Darkness 10-15-2005 06:03 PM

A bit of everything.

The two finest songs of MAYH. Worth the price of the album alone.

Darkness 10-15-2005 07:13 PM

What about Demon Of the Fall?

Shattered_Future 10-15-2005 07:18 PM

I'm starting to like that song a bit more now...I used to hate it with a passion.

FINALLY listened to all of Ghost Reveries, though I had trouble paying attention at parts...kept spacing in and out at like minute intervals. :(

I know this sounds cliche, but I love The Grand Conjuration...the emotion Akefeldt conveys with his voice is unsurpassed.
