most modern bands that are considered metalcore are just aping what botch and converge did a couple of years ago, and modern converge is probably the most legit metalcore still around

gmoneyguy 10-25-2007 09:21 AM

I consider them more mathcore, than metalcore.

Aakon_Keetreh 10-25-2007 09:22 AM

I like some metalcore, but most sounds the same. I dont see the problem liking a band if they copy the others. They might even pull it off better than some of the copycats. Music is music. why do people argue?

They don't even do anything musical they do, other then distorted guitars. harmonically, melodically, and rhythmically you can't even compare. Metalcore is characterized by its musically simplistic nature. Being an inspiration to a genre does not make a part of the genre.

Then there is no point to discussing.

I think they can be synonymous.

metalcore is not characteristically simple, and no being an inspiration does essentially ingrain you in the genre, dont form a description of the genre based on bands that are doing cheap immitations of what the pioneers did a couple years ago.

Transient 10-25-2007 09:34 AM

Metalcore = (Metal + Hardcore) / 2

okay 10-25-2007 09:35 AM

i think we should do away with all hardcore's subgenres
and
just call it all hardcore

Hardcore is simplistic, mainly the metal is thrown in because of the vocals.

Provide some evidence and examples to the debate, you are simply asserting I'm wrong. That does nothing for your argument, but make you look stupid. I asking you to prove me worng, not say that I am wrong.

okay 10-25-2007 09:41 AM

there is no rule that says hardcore has to be simplistic

Pete 10-25-2007 09:43 AM
Most of the metalcore I hear these days sounds pretty similar. But I'm not really educated I suppose, so if you can show me some good original metalcore bands that aren't Botch or Converge, I'll agree with you.
Shai Hulud
Rosesdead
Between the Buried and Me
Bridge to Solace
Zombie Apocalypse
Indecision
Miscreants

...all represent entirely different styles of metalcore (while undoubtedly retaining both metal and hardcore elements [BtBaM maybe not belonging on the list but, meh]) and I think they're all really good. :)

Okay, its not the is an International Genre Assocation. Characteristics of music dictate its genre.

Thanks Pete.:chug:

I always think people associating BTBAM with metalcore is such a bad thing because they are so much better, as well as incorporate so many different styles as opposed to what bands are considered metalcore. My friend called them metalcore, and I just stared at him.

Also, Shai Hulud is really good.<3

Monticello 10-25-2007 11:10 AM

Shai Hulud is really good so far, but that's only a few seconds talking because The Simpsons is on and that gets priority :thumb:

more true than butter on toast

i just want them to drop a full-length, concept album (though that's a given since they're sort of a concept band)

it'd be so awesome

RetiredAt21 10-25-2007 12:08 PM

Shai Hulud is boring. Zombie Apocalypse is cool, though.

My band opened for Shai Hulud [and Dead To Fall and One Dead Three Wounded] last September.
