masterchaos 10-17-2007 05:09 PM

anyone checked out Skeletonwitch yet?

Toaster 10-17-2007 05:37 PM

New Anaal Nathrakh has leaked.

I've been listening to this Hour of Penance album lately, Pageantry for Martyrs, it's pretty solid. I guess they sound vaguely like Spawn of Possession, much less technical and much heavier. Not slam at all though, check it out if you need new modern DM.

Every time I hear the name Skeletonwitch I think of bones between two slices of bread. :S

Do the most of the vocals (Anaal) still sound like a possesed twelve yr old girl? I love the music but the vocals turn me away.

And its official, Im dressing up as a Skeletonwich now that you mentioned that...but do check them out if you havent, really good stuff.
Exhorder rules.
not really. theyre a less talented version of pantera imo, phil anselmo even stole theyre vocal style.

@fatal
i love the first two annihilator albums. :(

Niflheim 10-17-2007 06:48 PM

ive never heard of they are vocal style

LifeInABox 10-17-2007 06:48 PM

rattlehead42147 is his name, and logic is his game.

What an idiot.

rattlehead42147 10-17-2007 06:56 PM

exhorder is extremely bland, and dimebag > than any guitarist in exhorder. i'm not even that big of a pantera fan and i say that. slaughter in the vatican has a few good points but overall i find it pretty unmemorable.

Dargon 10-17-2007 06:57 PM

Dargon 10-17-2007 07:01 PM

I don't care what you say, it's pretty obvious you've been unable to love another man since the day Dimebag died. Deny it all you want.

rattlehead42147 10-17-2007 07:02 PM

dimebag is pretty low on my lists of favorite guitarists. but i do love his playing, i just dont go around saying "we'll miss you brother dime!"
EDIT: anyone like faustus?

I think you neglect his rampant mancrushes on James Murphy and Jeff Loomis.

Eliminator 10-17-2007 07:50 PM

anyone like nocturnus

pate 10-17-2007 07:52 PM

He's one of the most overrated guitarists on the planet, along with Jimmy Page, EVH and Jeff Loomis.

rattlehead42147 10-17-2007 09:10 PM
I think you neglect his rampant mancrushes on James Murphy and Jeff Loomis.
thank you. both of said guitarists i hold in higher regard than dimebag.
He's one of the most overrated guitarists on the planet, along with Jimmy Page, EVH and Jeff Loomis.
jeff loomis isn't known enough to be overrated. he was in guitar world a few times, thats about the most exposure i've seen from him, and he was overshadowed by "The Great" John Petrucci in the gigantour issue he was they were in with Dave Mustaine. replace JP with JL.

FatalEnergy 10-17-2007 09:17 PM

The two bands are nothing alike. Clean your ears out and try again. Shitwagon.

rattlehead42147 10-17-2007 09:20 PM

are you serious? i can see you saying that about the guitars but listen to the vocals, phil's are a complete ripoff, exhorder has even said it themselves.

masterchaos 10-17-2007 09:23 PM

Loomis isnt overrated and neither is Petrucci. There's a reason why they're talked about as much as they are.

and the Exhorder sound is extremely present in Pantera (or was)

FatalEnergy 10-17-2007 09:23 PM

Who gives a shit? Pantera sucks

NemesisDivina 10-17-2007 09:26 PM

lol the majority of Pantera's riffs consist of open note (D-flat) being played in some odd pattern.

rattlehead42147 10-17-2007 09:29 PM
Who gives a poop? Pantera sucks
no one, but theres no way you can deny the exhorder sound in theirs. why is it a crime to like pantera anymore? theyre not my favorite band or anything but its alright to listen to them every once and again, ie. metallica.

Because it's a rule in elitist land that you can no longer occasionally enjoy a band that isn't either a) super technical or b) super obscure or c) non-catchy.

Oh, but remember also that if you are too technical, then you're also boring, and if you're too obscure, then who gives a **** as well. So you've got to like perfect bands, but wait, you can't like perfect bands, because that would be too perfect.

You can't win either way in elitist land, so give up already. You fail, as do we all.

Anyway, I like Pantera, so fuck y'all.

Tyler 10-17-2007 11:58 PM

I've thought Pantera sucked since I was like 11.

poopie 10-17-2007 11:59 PM

Opeth is my favorite band.

is this, or is this not, the death metal thread? at least discuss sepultura or something if youre gonna discuss crappy 90's groove metal bands

big80smullet 10-18-2007 05:50 AM

is melodic death metal acceptable? Cause at the gates is on now and its giving me wood. Slaughter of the soul is one of my favourite albums. yeah!

TojesDolan 10-18-2007 10:32 AM

Well, they play in half-time so they must be prog metal.
There's a reason why they're talked about as much as they are.
Yeah, because they're overrated. Durrrr.

Nevermore is meh in general, and Pretrucci pisses me off. It's like a slow "emotional" part, then he starts wanking like mad and is like "OMFG GUYZ LUK WUT I CAN DO WITH MY GUITAR I R00L U GUYZ". Don't even deny it, he does it all the ****ing time. ESPECIALLY live. He butchered the solo in Comfortably Numb by doing that.

Okay now this is getting ridiculous
Legendary Swedish metal band AT THE GATES will reunite for several shows next summer. Confirmed dates so far are as follows:

Jul. 4-6 - Ruis Rock, Finland
Jul. 31 - Aug. 2 - Wacken Open Air, DE
Aug. 15-17 - Bloodstock, Derby, UK

Commented guitarist Anders Björler (currently in THE HAUNTED): "Well, it felt like the timing was right for once. We have been talking about a possible reunion for years now, but this was the first time everything fell into place. For me personally, it feels like getting closure. The break-up over ten years ago was abrupt and left a bad vibe between us that took years to get over. We have a better relationship today and a more relaxed approach to who we are and what we do. The time is right to get together and play some shows Try to catch us live in the summer 2008. It could be your last chance."

AT THE GATES is:

Tomas Lindberg (DISFEAR, THE CROWN, LOCKUP) - vocals
Anders Björler (THE HAUNTED) - guitar
Martin Larsson - guitar
Jonas Björler (THE HAUNTED) - bass
Adrian Erlandsson (BRUJERIA, CRADLE OF FILTH) - drums
