he is indeed very elusive. what are you guys up to tonight
Elusive like a shark.
Listening to Catfight on a Hotdog right now, Aaron could you shed any light on the concept and/or themes surrounding it? (If you're here, you're not on msn)
Mm. Well generally speaking I work on a conceptual level to start with and match it to what I percieve as the best structure [ie. Stoned Whales came about when I was trying to capture the feeling of swimming in my parent's pool with my brothers when drunk, and thought naturally to match it up something slow and meandering, but at the same time cohesive and confident [big dumb animal is drunk, but is still big dumb animal]].

Once I have that structure and rhythm in my head I go about sourcing a sound that I think best suits that structure I want to build [sometimes percussive, othertimes synth that I write, sometimes found sounds or manipulated sounds from other songs]. Then I go about building a framework for the song, generally in segmented parts contained in individual files.

Once I have a few individual samples I do a rough mix to see if they're cohesive and start to colour them. Sometimes they don't work so they remain there waiting to be used in another song, and othertimes I use the same segment over and over and add extra tracks to mesh them into something more whole.

Generally my goal at this point is constructing something cohesive that I can step back from and view as a whole, then assessing which parts need more intensity and light, and which needs shade [less or more sounds]. My main goal is always explaining the theme in textural and aural methods [you'll notice barely any vocal samples].

So in short, each track has an individual theme, and being the person I am they seem to work as a whole. As far as Phil's work you'll have to ask him [the text file in the RAR will tell you which of his tracks are his, and which are mine]; I'll get him to jump online and give his input if you'd like. Hope this block of text is of assistance, more importantly hope you enjoy the listen.
Where's Chu tonight? I hope he didn't fall asleep listening to Tiger Panic, word is you don't wake up.
I passed out not too long afterwards (actually, in all honesty, I greened out :(), and just slept.

gaslight 02-11-2009 05:42 PM

Free to air television is unbearable 9 times out of 10.

Haha Chu. Does your house go through a lot of potato chips?

Aaron 02-11-2009 06:18 PM

I bet Chu is a pringles man.

Chu 02-11-2009 07:02 PM

Not really, I tend to not eat much, I don't really ever notice myself hungry (probably because I can suppress via coffee and marijuana).

We go through a lot of Mi Goreng noodles though (I'm quite partial to Yaman soups myself), glass bottles of whole chili's, and a **** load of bakery goods.

Munchies? When I'm baked I don't notice I'm hungry, but if I'm reminded of food it becomes ridiculous. One night I stayed up until 5 in the morning eating whatever I could get my hands on because I was feeling sad and thought filling myself up with food would alleviate the emptiness I felt inside. Stupid idea, I felt sick as a dog for a day afterwards.

Chu 02-11-2009 07:20 PM

I used to get the munchies heaps, but I don't know, maybe I've got a technique going on for ignoring it.

rasputin 02-11-2009 07:41 PM

Ah okay. I haven't smoked for a few months now, but I did a cone last week with a friend and I felt pretty ****, so I think it's time to give it a rest.
you hate happy things =(
i'm sure not all of it is bad, just what i've seen :)

me and TV have a non-existant relationship throughout most of the year, hell, almost near all of it.

Meatplow 02-11-2009 10:13 PM

why do I get the comic sans? low quality font for low quality humour :*(

Aaron 02-11-2009 10:18 PM

The fact that I varied from the standard font would probably imply it recieved more recognition.

i ate some raw mince while high but had enough common sense to know that it doesn't taste good raw so i didn't eat the rest stayed hungry

gaslight 02-11-2009 10:31 PM

Haha.

Ravers are one of the few elements of human culture still actively subject to natural selection.
