Well, in the next few months I will have to pick up some jazz cymbals for school (pending I get in!) and Im pretty open to suggestions.
One for sure buy will be a K constantinople, but I'll be looking for another ride and some hats. |
K Custom Hybrid ride. Damn good ride.
That or pure K Constantinoples. Damn good cymbals there, too. As far as hats go, get something like the K Darks. |
wtf hybrids are pretty awful in jazz
they are just PING PING PING PING PING |
I know, old topic, but although the message can barely be understood, ATRU is right. Hybrids are a little too pingy for real combo jazz, or cool jazz. In big band and fusion jazz they sound amazing. They pretty much work in everything but extreme metulzzzz and extreme jazz. They are also not just PING PING PING, they've got a decent wash, just not the best for extreme jazz.
I'd look into the Light Rides. The 24" is a little overpowering on its own for combo, although with enough tape, its easier to control. Check out the 20" and 22" Light Rides that are now coming out, they will be good rides. Another good combo ride is the 20" K Custom Dry Ride. As for hats, the Hybrids actually perform very well in jazz, although not perfect for small combo stuff. I'd look into the K Light hats for that, or an old pair of Avedis hats, try to find lighter ones for combo stuff. Good luck man. |
18" Paiste Traditionals Flat-Ride.
|
Getting back to the drums after having not played for a while due to school and such. Will mostly be playing rock and metal, though anything is really possible. Current set up is Sabian AA rock ride 20", AA medium Crash 17", AAXplosion 18" crash, Sabian signature Max Splash 11" and a Wuhan china 12".
Looking for new hats, as the ones I have are still the crap pearl stock cymbals. Also thinking about one more crash, maybe something on the dark side. I've heard good things about the Meinl Byzance dark crashes, but other reccomendations would be appreciated. In terms of price range for the hats, something along the cost of the Sabian AA/AAX lines. |
for the crash, check out the HHX stage line. awesome cymbals, and still cut with dark sounds.
as for the hats, looking at the rest of your cymbals, couldnt go wrong with some AA Fusion hats. |
i think it's impossible to be disappointed with the hhx stage crashes. those things are lovely as can be.
those and piaste sig. mellow and full crashes are my favorites. |
I just thought I would post in here. I used a Sabian AAX Stage Ride 20" and I honestly think it is the nicest ride I have ever used. I currently use a 21" Sabian AA Dry Ride, but I think I will have to get my hands on this AAX Ride.
Anyways, try it out if looking for a new ride. |
my next ride is so a Hand Hammered ride. theres a 20" and 22" ride at a local shop. its either HH Vintage or Class ride....either way, they are a sweet *** ride.

Anyone have any experience with stagg black metal bells? I just ordered a 7'' heavy. I hope I like it.
|
i know a few people on here have them...drum phil does. He should be able to tell you.
|
In short, its so much more musical than a zilbel.
Fairly low in pitch, dark and sexy as hell. |
It came in yesterday. I love it so much. It's not annoying or harsh like the LP ones.
|
Told you so.
|
Just a quick question, I was just wondering what the equivalent Zildjian line to Sabians AA line.
I was just interested in comparing the differences between them. |
Probly the zildjian A series
|
Pretty much.
I need a new mini-china. Im thinking a 12" Meinl GenX filter. Suggestions? I want it quick and trashy, preferably meinl. |
Sabian HH 10" China Kang
Sabian AAX 12" Mini China Paiste Signature 12" Thin China Meinl Gen-X 15" China Crash I know you said preferable meinl but they're all good |
AAX is a bit bright for my china tastes. I couldnt find a paiste when i looked for one, but i'll deffo check that out.
15" is too big really. |
Thought the 15" one might be too big. thought i'd throw it in there anyway tho
|
12" Gen-X for sure
|
12'' wuhan?
|
12" GenX Filter
but a 12" Wuhan might have the same sound you're looking for, but at a cheaper price. |
Depends on pitch.
High-pitched: 12" - 14" Wuhan Low-pitched: 14" K Mini-China |
Wuhans arent that cheap here.
In fact, i wouldnt even know where to find one. |
ebay is all I know of Phil.
|
I'll choke on jordisons hair before i buy a cymbal online.
|
wuhans are the exception i'd say
|
I would never EVER buy a cymbal online.
Only exception was my platinum because it was a bargain and i actually planned to resell it. |
