Yeah, mine are usually dry by then...just drain the water in the sink and let the strings sit in the pot for a bit to cool down. Then, take them out carefully and lay them flat on a towel (without touching eachother) to dry. Takes about an hour, sometimes more or less, depending on humidity, string type, etc.

I heart you, thanks. :p

cliffburtonrules 03-31-2005 02:17 PM

Wouldn't the boiling of tyhe strings rust them?

I always wondered about that.

Dieforitall89 03-31-2005 02:18 PM

Hmm, about ten minutes and ..one string at a time or all together?

Wintermute 03-31-2005 02:18 PM

No, they're not wet for long. Besides, they're stainless steel.

cliffburtonrules 03-31-2005 02:19 PM
Sometimes when I talk I say "pwned" ......... :upset:
HOW DO YOU PRONOUNCE IT?!?!

Me and my friend argue about it.

I say its "owned" with a "p" sound. "pohned" would be the phonetical (sp?)

He says "pooned"
Hmm, about ten minutes and ..one string at a time or all together?
No point doing them seperately.

kilian 03-31-2005 02:19 PM
Hmm...boiling my strings for the 1st time, is there any way i could dry them in 3 hours?
A. You are preparing for a gig, doing everything at the last moment (changing strings etc.)
B. You have to go to bandpractise/play with it in about 3 hours.

I always have the A-thing.. :upset: I would just let them dry normally, but you can put them in the sun I think?

Dieforitall89 03-31-2005 02:19 PM

Its hilarious on xbox live when all the little kids started shouting "yeeeeahhh i rule! I just pawned you!!!"

I say it the way you do.

Poon = vagina.
Now let us think, getting pooned, hmm..... :naughty:

Wintermute 03-31-2005 02:22 PM

I'm not up on my chemistry, but I don't think nickel rusts. Rust is a combination of oxygen, water and iron. It's possible it might react in some other way though, ask Gav.

Rust is oxidation. When you add oxygen to something, it rusts both rapidly (burning something is rapid rusting, or rapid oxidation as it's known in chemistry) and slowly (iron rusting over time, etc.). When you boil the strings in the water, it's a physical change. There is no chemical change involved because the oxygen in the water (H2O) is remaining with the diatomic hydrogen to enter the gas state (due to the high input of heat energy). Thus, no oxygen can combine while boiling.

Also, as Alex said, they're stainless steal [EDIT: or at least coated in some type of anti-rust chemical]. :p

Answered. :)

By the way, it's pronounced "poned," just like "owned" but with a p infront of it.

I sorta understood.

But I'm not talking about the boiling. I'm talking about when they are drying. And like DFIA, what if they are nickel?

Check the edit.

I'm not 100%, but it's safe enough to assume that.

I'll check oxidation properties of nickel in my textbook. Hold on. :)

Actually i forgot...yes i forgot a gig but i have a jazz gig tomorrow a practice tonight and some battle of the bands next friday.

bottlerocket 03-31-2005 02:28 PM
On account of its permanence in air and inertness to oxidation, it is used in the smaller coins, for plating iron, brass, etc., for chemical apparatus, and in certain alloys, as German silver.
Nickel is inert to oxidation.

Jazz song to play next friday and a battle of the bands final with my band at may 20 :D And some more gigs between, but we have to find out..

Anyone played at a festival and indoors? What's the difference in experience? Because my band is asked for a local (not small, not big) festival

Good luck :thumb:
