Playability > Sound 99% of the time.

gaslight 09-03-2009 09:06 PM

It's true, a lot of people have their head up their arse re: gear obsessions. If you can admit it's for personal gratification then by whatever you want, but if you need $10,000 of gear to sound good, what you really need is more practise.

funkyhoney 09-03-2009 09:11 PM

When I need personal gratification I buy chocolate and beer.

funkyhoney 09-03-2009 09:12 PM

Or a combination of the two, which I call "cheer".

Why fail? I bought it only for school & traveling purposes. Other than that, I have a PC at work and at home that I can use for everything else.

It's true. I enjoy playing, and I'm not going to buy something that's uninspiring or virtually unplayable.

I don't need $10k worth of gear to sound good. I think I can sound pretty good on a bSquier Starter Pak. I prefer the tonal varieties of more expensive preamps, the headroom of larger amps, the frequency range of more strings, etc. I don't need it to sound good as a player - I need it to sound like "me" as a bassist...I just haven't figured out exactly what that sounds like. I'll get there. I'm thinking it's a Spector 6 + my current amp setup. In two years, I'll probably be wrong.

gaslight 09-04-2009 08:56 AM

Is everyone having a fine time?

fatbandit 09-04-2009 09:13 AM

I'm digging on Sam Rivers right now for some reason.

He's a solid player, plays a badass bass, and has a good tone. He'd be more popular among bassists if he didn't make it big playing with LB.

fatbandit 09-04-2009 09:35 AM

I think without Durst, LB would actually be a respectable band. I've always liked Wes' playing.

funkyhoney 09-04-2009 09:43 AM

Man, I got drunk and made some half-hearted attempts at my best mates gf. Lucky she's an hilarious mofo.

It's true, there's nothing wrong with them musically, it's just that Fred Durst is a bit of a joke.

funkyhoney 09-04-2009 10:08 AM

Lb?

gaslight 09-04-2009 10:14 AM

Limp Biscuit.

...bizkit

funkyhoney 09-04-2009 10:26 AM

BAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHA!

I'm osrry.

gaslight 09-04-2009 10:28 AM

Try typing it, it's just feels wrong.

bizkit, bizkit, to rhyme with abortion

funkyhoney 09-04-2009 10:32 AM

I don't even wanna try typing correctly at the momeny,

I like the way they combined rap & metal. I just wish it wasn't a whiny, Aston Kutcher-style voice with terrible lyrics.

fatbandit 09-04-2009 10:42 AM

Meh, I can take or leave the rap aspect. Get someone with a good singing voice in there. Or just the Rage singer. He'd have done it better.

gaslight 09-04-2009 10:42 AM

Ashton Kutcher has done rap-metal? I think you have rap-metal confused with Bruce Willis' wife.

BenJammin 09-04-2009 10:49 AM

I lol'd a little.

funkyhoney 09-04-2009 10:52 AM

I did too, tbh.

That sh*t's scary.

Can we also agree that Limp Bizkit's DJ is a totally useless member?

And Zach de la Rocha must not lower himself to those guys. Sure, the music was pretty good at times, but RATM is a million times better 100% of the time. Seriously, Tim, Tom, and Brad make up one of the tightest and most rippin' trios ever.

FunkMetalBass 09-04-2009 04:28 PM

If RATM's music was a bit heavier, I'd be a bigger fan. Solid, tight players though.

fatbandit 09-04-2009 05:07 PM

I think they definitely utilise DJ Lethal, but if he had never been there, I wouldn't have been thinking 'man, these guys need someone spinning the decks...'. Rage and LB are too different though really to compare properly I guess. The last EP LB released was actually pretty good - no DJ stuff really, and heavier material. Less 'comical'. But Durst still ruined it for the most part. Most people I know don't even know it exists D:
