Josh 02-18-2005 03:13 PM

its a great album, why the upset smiley?

GurS 02-18-2005 03:16 PM
cheers for rep MAthiAS and eddie, nice avatar ashman

theres so many different kinds of rock and metal now, a lot of it is crap as well. but im not too bothered about genres as long as its good.

GurS im assuming you've heard all the songs off somewhere in time even though you dont have it?
uh.... yeh....

>_>

<_<

actually, off'f the two albums i don't have, i've only heard 3 off'f both: Wasted Years, Stranger in a Strange Land and Heaven Can Wait from SIT, and Futureal, Angel and Gambler and The Clansman from VXI.

Shocking, I know

Josh 02-18-2005 03:19 PM

SiT is well worth getting, one of my favourite albums

brave new world > somewhere in time > dance of death

and the bass on caught somewhere in time........wow

MAthiAS 02-18-2005 03:22 PM

Somewhere in Time is my third favorite Maiden album, definitely a good buy.
SSOASS > NOTB > SiT
Caught Somewhere in Time is an amazing song... Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner is my other favorite off of it, though you don't hear it mentioned much.

Lord Abortion 02-18-2005 03:23 PM

worst albums IMO
goes NPFTD
FOTD
VXI

good point, for a long time it was my favourite song...that riff never gets boring.

GurS 02-18-2005 03:25 PM

For me, it's currently POM>Powerslave>BNW>NOTB>S/T>SSOASS>DOD>Killers>NPFTD>X Factor>FOTD

Josh 02-18-2005 03:26 PM

i cant order my favourite albums that well, anyway ive been listening to more megadeth and ozzy osbourne than maiden lately.

IAJP 02-18-2005 03:27 PM

Piece Of Mind is greatly underated.

Lord Abortion 02-18-2005 03:28 PM

that your kit on your avatar gur?

Josh 02-18-2005 03:43 PM

he be offline again. its a cool kit though.

ashman 02-18-2005 03:44 PM
weaker then FOTD? seriously?

I still got 2 to go - somewhere in time and virtual xi.

though my NOTB is scratched beyond working.
I think NPFD has more filler songs then any other. I've started listening to FOTD a lot more lately, I've started to like it more then I did.

ashman 02-18-2005 03:45 PM
that your kit on your avatar gur?
Yeah that's his Kit. *Seen the picture before :naughty: *

it's got mine beat :upset:
For me, it's currently POM>Powerslave>BNW>NOTB>S/T>SSOASS>DOD>Killers>NPFTD>X Factor>FOTD
Eh, of the ones I own I go:
SSOASS > NOTB > SiT > BNW > Powerslave > DoD > POM
all are great though, so don't think that I think SSOASS is the greatest album of all time and POM is the worst. Its Maiden we're talking about here.

Josh 02-18-2005 03:47 PM
Yeah that's his Kit. *Seen the picture before :naughty: *
ash where did you spongebob maiden avatar come from?
and IMO FOTD isnt bad, be quick or be dead, from here to eternity, afraid to shoot strangers, judas be my guide IMO are best tracks, the studio version of the title track is weak.

I just searched Eddy Iron Maiden at Google and that's what I found.

What about wasting love, Chains of Misery and Childhoods End?

Josh 02-18-2005 04:30 PM

meh, i find wasting love good but annoying, chains of misery is average. but childhood's end is good

vashts80 02-18-2005 04:30 PM

Blood Brothers pwns me. I've found a good 5 different tabs, they're all totally different, and the one that seems like it works has no indicators of how many times you play the section. It pisses me off.

ashman 02-18-2005 04:31 PM

Chains of Misery is good for the solo bit; When it slows down and then gets faster... Wasting Love is such a cool song to play though.

Play the song and try and follow the tab (without Guitar). It's what I usually do if there aren't any time indicators.

vashts80 02-18-2005 04:40 PM

Nah, I'm on bass...it sounds weird trying to follow 'Arry.

http://www.guitartabs.cc/fetchfile.php?fileid=1437425

That's the tab I'm trying to play, but it looks weirdly formatted. Pain in the *** to figure it out.

/me goes back to playing Run to the Hills

First Maiden song I can play on bass. R0xx0rz.

ashman 02-18-2005 04:49 PM

That is a different way to what I play it. The way I play it on Bass is just:

------------------------5--------7----
----2---------5------5----5----7------
--2--2-----5------3----------5---------
0-------3----------------------------

It's just that basically all the way through...

vashts80 02-18-2005 04:58 PM

The thing is that on Rio, he strums during most of the 1st slower solo (Where it goes slow -> fast -> slow -> Verse [When you think that we've used all our chances...]) that's what's confusing me with all the tabs. I need to see if there's a tab book for BNW.

GurS 02-18-2005 05:21 PM

I'll give a track-by-track analysis on FOTD and why it's the worst IMO.

BQOBD: Great start, fantastic song.
From Here To Eternity: Ditto.
Afraid To Shoot Strangers: First time I heard it, I thought "Great! Fantastic!". But it gets dull and stale quickly. I believe 'Arry was trying to write a certain style of song... and had many failed attempts on the way. This includes this song IMO, and he's tried it on most of the albums since then, he nearly had it with Dream of Mirrors but he finally found what he was looking for IMO with No More Lies.
Fear Is The Key: Terrible, awful song. It's hideous.
Childhood's End: Decent song
Wasting Love: Dull and schmaltzy IMO. Not very great.
The Fugitive: A great song. I <3 it muchly.
Chains Of Misery: Dull, repetative and not very good. So far below what Maiden are capable off.
The Apparition: Next...
Judas Be My Guide: A good song. Very nice.
Weekend Warrior: If this was a B-side, I'd love it - you could assume it's a joke. But as it's on an alubm, we must assume that this song was written in Earnest. :amaze: It's cheesy, early 90's crap.
Fear Of The Dark: A fantastic song to end the album on... goes about half way to redeeming the album.

In honestly, if they had released the album as BQOBD, From Here To Eternity, Childhood's End, The Fugitive, Judas Be My Guide and FOTD, it'd be great. But the rest of the album drags it way down, and makes it dull and slow, when listening to this album I find myself skipping half the songs on it, just so that I don't fall asleep. Yes, the best songs on this are probably better than the best songs on NPFTD, but the rest are so crap and/or mediocre that it places the album right at the bottom of the album ranking.

My two pence.

thelittledrummerboy 02-18-2005 05:34 PM

Thats a fair good analysis.

And how good is killers n e way? If i bought it would i be dissapointed
