So I worked two days last week feeling really shitty, just because I don't like taking days off work if I can help it. Then I couldn't manage it, so I took the other three days off, and basically stayed in bed feeling awful.

Today I got my paycheck for last week, and instead of saying something like £170 (what I'd normally get) on it, it said £10.06. How the fuck am I supposed to live off £10 for a week. This isn't cool.

Statutory sick pay means you don't get any money at all unless you're off for FOUR days or more. So my 3 days basically go unpaid. But I should still have like £65 from Monday and Tuesday. I rang up Human Resources but they just said to talk to the line manager. Who I don't see until Tuesday because of Easter.

Fuck this, I'm so angry about it :@

FunkMetalBass 04-09-2009 10:53 AM

Big companies will do anything to get out of paying sick employees. That happened to me twice when I worked for Kroeger (who requires you be sick the 3rd day and return with a doctor's note for sick pay).

The third time I got sick, I got a doctor's note the first day and took a 3rd day off to go to the zoo, just so that I could get my pay.

Gotta watch out for that fine print, man. I'm sorry that it happened. Hope HR sucks a **** and gives you SOMETHING.

Another related story:

My ex-girlfriend also used to work for Kroeger. They are unionized hardcore, so after a year, you are entitled to free insurance (90/10 split, good insurance). The catch, however, is that you are required to work 100 hours in a month to get a month of free insurance 3 months later (100 hours in January means insurance coverage in April). You don't have the option to actually pay for the insurance through the company, and they don't tell you if you aren't covered for a month due to hours.

Basically, she worked 97.75 hours one month and had medical problems 3 months later. She got the ER bill that should have been extremely inexpensive and saw a bill for almost $4,000 staring her in the face.

Insurance refused to cover her for that month and she is probably still making payments on those bills now.

That's screwed up. Businesses will do anything they can to save money...

Btw, Supervillain is sounding pretty awesome! Catchy tune and good sound. Me likey.

FunkMetalBass 04-09-2009 11:41 AM

Thanks, dawg. I'll let the guys know. I think you're going to like "The Escape" when we get those recordings finished.

How's life, Steve?

I'm looking forward to hearing more stuff, you've already got a good sound and that is certainly a good tune. In not too long I think you guys could end up being a totally awesome band. Keep on going and I am sure you will be!

I'm not too bad, finally got this Easter weekend, so off until Tuesday. :)

I love conspiracy theory people, they make me laugh. Saw a part of a documentary about Planet X and how supposedly the Sumerians were slaves to living gods known as the Annanaki who were from Niburu (Planet X) and they genetically modified the proto-humans into homo sapiens... Fantastic.

I left a comment which totally pwned the whole thing and the guy who made the documentary goes on about how my theory is wrong, gives some weak arguments and says his is not full of holes when I just obliterated his theory in a few sentences. They crack me up these people.

What are you're plans for the weekend?

:amaze: 04-09-2009 03:27 PM

woo. just signed up for classes next semester. they all sound pretty interesting, and no friday classes!

BenJammin 04-09-2009 04:07 PM

Woo I graduate and don't have to worry about classes next year. ;)

:amaze: 04-09-2009 04:31 PM

woo i'm not graduating this year, so i don't have to stress about finding a job yet :)

Sablate McNuff 04-09-2009 10:41 PM

Ben, that's so cool. I'm very very jealous to say the least.

I'm in danger of failing my classes if I don't start doing a lot of that makeup work...and quick. Being sick for that long and the full time job really hurt my grades.

burtonbassist_102 04-09-2009 11:04 PM

woo watching the dark knight.

:amaze: 04-10-2009 01:45 AM

great movie.

Aaron 04-10-2009 02:24 AM

I love the score to The Dark Knight. It's perfect, especially through a nice 5.1 system.

Raayl: I've written another seven tracks since we last spoke [am doing the score for a film]. Would be great to have your opinion on them when they're mixed properly.

Epidemechanical 04-10-2009 02:30 AM

im listening to the new mastodon album for the first time, and expecting great things after the immensely brutal skin flaying masterpiece that was Blood Mountain

its delivering so far. i read the various reviews from the review section, and the mixed reviews are put to rest by the relentless awesome-**** riffing mastodon is known for

br00tality dude

plus the vocals are a breath of fresh air on this album

:amaze: 04-10-2009 02:47 AM

what's their best album? i've got leviathan, and it's the only one i've heard.

Epidemechanical 04-10-2009 02:50 AM
what's their best album? i've got leviathan, and it's the only one i've heard.
id say blood mountain probably

although remission is also quality

all their albums are good. but you can easily hear the transition from heavy heavy heavy to softer and more thoughtful from their early work like remission to blood mountain. progresses with each album.

BM just had so many great songs. every single song is one you don't want to skip. its one of those albums that you have problems listening to in short bursts cause...well, every song is great.

the riffs are just sooooo devestating

Mr. Pickle 04-10-2009 02:56 AM

For guitar.

2x12 or 4x10?

:amaze: 04-10-2009 03:01 AM

all other factors equal, 4x10.

Sablate McNuff 04-10-2009 08:34 AM

I disagree. 4x12.

Spaceman Spiff 04-10-2009 10:56 AM

So I'm probably picking up a MicroKorg in the next couple days. Getting it used for $320. Sweet.

FunkMetalBass 04-10-2009 11:11 AM

Pretty sweet, dawg. I ended up not getting that RC-2. The guy just forgot to take down the CL ad. Twas lame.

Even lame-r, nobody is buying my Conklin. HDHGNNGDEUCFUOENCUTOEUJOEDCUOFEKU(OE*U{*EOUGUDOEUTHODEUTGQ!!!!!!!!!!!!

k, so someone explain how the army works for me.

Do you like, sign a contract? How do living arrangments work? Are you gone for 6 months, then you get to stay home for 6 months or are you just always on call?

Explain away.

Aye, but this is the casual.

We speak of trains, pineapples, drugs and alcohol here.

DaveSavesTheDay 04-10-2009 07:27 PM

In other news, I'm going to be sick.

I just ate a huge order of chicken fingers, zucchini sticks, onion rings and deepfried jalapenos with liquid cheese.

It was delicious, but it was way too greasy.

even pineapples :upset:

BenJammin 04-10-2009 08:30 PM

So, I'm in Halifax, and my aunt and uncle are helping me put together a working record player, since the one I have at home is dead and isn't worth the money to repair.

So they're all like "Yeah, we've got some stuff we don't use, etc., etc. You're welcome to it."

We only had time to dig up speakers today, but I just got a bitchin' pair of Bose speakers. For free.

DaveSavesTheDay 04-10-2009 09:02 PM

Nice.

I just placed 45th in an online poker tournament out of 1800.

burtonbassist_102 04-10-2009 09:37 PM
