But anyways, I got Meddle today
I got it a couple of weeks ago and what can I say? The only song I could say I really don't like is Seamus. Just seems kinda lame and unnecessary. But who knows, it'll probably grow on me as every other Floyd song I didn't like has! In fact, the songs that grow on you are the ones that you end up liking for longer I've found. Anyways, Fearless is seriously cool (with the eery crowd chanting at the end) and we all know Echoes is the shit. I'll listen to the whole album again and again until I love it to death. |
What have you heard about gilmours upcoming solo album?
|
That he will be touring for it, even in the US.. and it will be an amazing album. He had a recording video on his site for x-mas, but took it off.. it was an AMAZING blues jam.
|
Time used to be my favorite on DSOTM, but now it's probably Us and Them.
Time is still my favorite, although The Great Gig in the Sky and Us and Them are godly tracks. I love Rick's piano solo on Us and Them. But Gilmour's guitar work on Time and Waters brilliant lyrics (not to mention Gilmour and Wright's great vocals) really outshined everything on the album. |
I saw one of his older ones at my local store, but didnt buy it because I wanted Animals on Vinyl more. Anyone here have it?
|
What have you heard about gilmours upcoming solo album?
I heard it was gonna be really avarage |
What is Gilmour's solo work like? I haven't heard any of it.

Graham Nash and David Crosby make apperances. Rick Wrigth also plays on the album. And he's playing two shows in Toronto and tickets go on sale for it this Saturday and I'm so getting tickets for it. |

Already posted in CR, but the greatest music video ever.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4436399338243841474 I hate that they got more serious after Sydy left. |
So, my friend is letting me borrow that Live at Pompeii DVD for a few days. Depending on how much I like it will determine if I buy it.

for anyone wondering about older solo david
His self titled is mostly blues rock About Face has more of an 80's pop feel |
He wrote comfortably numb while working on his 1978 self titled solo album
|
I saw a Floyd cover band saturday. They were called "Which ones Pink?"
It was ok I guess, the vocals weren't as good (of course) |
Yeah i know a band that do pink floyd, they sound good musically but the singer has no idea how to sing like david gilmour, its far to heavy for me.
These guys are like 17 and stuff, they aren't devoted pink floyd cover bands. |
I wanna form a PF cover band and call it Anderson Council. Hopefully there's not already one out there by that name.
|
why anderson council? I've never heard of them in the same context of Pink Foyd.
|
Pink Floyd was named after Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. It's just taking their last names instead of their first.
|
That'd be a cool cover band name.
I liked that Gilmour video a lot. Great laid-back jamming. I have a feeling that his solo album will actually be pretty good. Is anyone else besides Livewired and me going to try to get Gilmour tickets tomorrow. I hope I can go. And do you think he'll have a light show for his solo show like Pink Floyd had for their shows? |
I love when he yells "Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all" on Hey You. Chills.
|
I hope Dave's new album is good, for the most part new albums from bands from a long time ago have been decent this year (like McCarntey's) so I hope Dave is the same case. I at least hope he's still got it live because I'm going to be seeing him at Radio City Music Hall.

I was going to do that  When I saw how Syd came up with the name that was the first thing that popped into my head. I'd actually use that for any band name, not just a cover band. |

Hopefully I'll be seeing you there:chug: As far as I can tell tickets go on sale at noon on Saturday. |
I just ordered Atom Heart Mother and Meddle from amazon, they should be here in a week. Anyways, I was thinkin of getting The Wall live in Berlin. On a scale of 1 to 10, how is it.
I'd give it a 7. Not as bad as a lot of people might tell you it is, but it's not as strong as it could have been. First off, it's a Roger Waters solo concert, not a Pink Floyd concert. Roger's band and Michael Kamen's orchestra all recreate the music in a fantastic manner, but it's not Pink Floyd. The guest artists are sort of a mixed bag. The Trial was pretty cool, so was the Scorpions during In the Flesh, but Cindi Lauper's Another Brick in the Wall was awful. Van Morrison and The Band probably sounded like a good idea at the time, but their executions were very poor (this coming from a fan of both,) while for Bryan Adams on What Shall We Do Now and Young Lust it's the opposite (surprisingly good.) Also, Outside the Wall (the last song on the album) was not played at this show, and was replaced with "The Tide is Turning" from Roger's Radio KAOS album, and sung by everyone. It was a great finale, but it's disappointing that Outside the Wall was shelved entirely. Visually, the show is amazing throughout. Loved Comfortably Numb when Roger's guitarists traded the solo while standing on top of the wall (still, Gilmour would've been better.) And of course the big moment where the whole wall came down. |
Cindy Lauper sucks!!!!!!!!!!
I would definatly recomend Live in Berlin. It gives you a different point of view of the album |
I was going to do that When I saw how Syd came up with the name that was the first thing that popped into my head. I'd actually use that for any band name, not just a cover band.
Haha, yeah that would be a sweet name for just about any band.
I love when he yells "Hey you, don't tell me there's no hope at all" on Hey You. Chills.
That part is amazing, that song is probably my favorite on The Wall. |
Haha, yeah that would be a sweet name for just about any band.
That part is amazing, that song is probably my favorite on The Wall.
The whole song is amazing, but it's SO ****ing awesome from the solo to the end. See Emily Play is probably my next favorite Floyd song. It kind of reminds me of The Doors. The intro. |
What exactly happened to Syd? I heard he poured a jar of water with a bunch of acid hits in it on his head before a concert, and when they started playing, he just sat there frozen.
|
After years of LSD use, he broke down. He would get on stage, and not play, or just detune his guitar and make noise.. They brung Gilmour into the band to help, pick up where Syd wasn't playing, and he never got better, thus the boot.
'Tis a shame too, Syd's friends would put acid in his drinks and stuff.
And do you think he'll have a light show for his solo show like Pink Floyd had for their shows?
I may go to the Chicago show with my Dad and uncle.. not sure yet. I'm not sure about the huge show. When he did his last tour he did nothing big at all.. I'm hoping he'll do it like he did The Division Bell.. Would be insane. |
What exactly happened to Syd? I heard he poured a jar of water with a bunch of acid hits in it on his head before a concert, and when they started playing, he just sat there frozen.
I don't think thats how it happened, but yes the rumor is that Syd took too much acid and was never quite the same. There were many shows where he just walked on stage and stared into the crowd frozen. What exactly happened to him I think only Syd knows, I know LSD in large ammounts can bring out mental illness so thats probally what happened, but according to the band in the Syd Barrett story he went away for a couple of weeks and when he came back Dave said he didn't recognize him at first and their was a compleatly different look in his eyes or as Waters put it "A look in his eyes like black holes in the sky's" Very tragic and sad, such a waste of talent. And also putting LSD in a drink or known as "tabbing" a drink was common in the 60's if you used LSD reguarly (or sometimes if you didn't) usually when it was done to people who were known to use LSD and woudln't mind the trip (though not always sometimes it was just a crul joke.) But tragic as it was don't put the blame on Syd's friends it was most likly Syd who did it to himself. |
I think it was the euphoria of LSD that made the depression and loneliness of stardom all the more apparent to Syd, and that is why he ultimately flipped out.
|
they say 70 hits of acid in your lifetime makes you legaly psychotic, bu anyway syd was cool
|
Syd was pretty cool alright. It's really too bad about all the LSD/other drugs
Isn't 70 hits quite a bit? |
