Live at Leeds Deluxe Edition is probably the best $30 I ever spent. The whole performance is just amazing, and I would definitel recommend it over the Tommy and Quadrophenia DVD.
I'm just listening to the last little bit of the second disc now. It was definitly worth it!

Plus it was 20% off.

This proves, once more, that The Who were an amazing band. I mean, to do an entire album, and one as complex as Tommy live, all in one shot is just incredible.

Lunch 03-30-2006 09:05 PM

Yea, and playing almost all of Tommy was a routine by that point. They had perfected the stage version by the time of the Leeds show.

It's quite a shame they could never do that with Quadrophenia (well, in their prime I mean). I wish we had some powerhouse live shows from that era.

True.

They played it a total of 160 times live, I think.

shirodead 03-30-2006 10:14 PM

you guys are who fans, so who do you think should play keith moon in the upcoming movie?

Ephemeral 03-30-2006 10:17 PM
you guys are who fans, so who do you think should play keith moon?
What?

Do you mean replacement?

EDIT: Oh. I see.

hmm. Keith Richards. :p

I heard Mike Myers might do it. I don't know I think he might be able to pull it off.

Seafroggys 03-30-2006 11:39 PM

yeah Mike Myers is doing it...

I can see him doing it honestly.....

Yup. It's supposed to be Mike Myers, and it's supposed to be a go. Roger is involved, as is Pete, sort of. But I saw Mike Myers on a TV interview a couple of months ago and when asked of his upcoming projects he didn't mention the film. He mentioned a few things he said he was especially excited about, but no mention of the Moon bio pic whatsoever. Which was surprising because he's been overlooking the project for several years, at least. I think he would be great in the role. He plays drums and has the right kind of off the wall style to play Moon. And when given a chance he has been a good dramatic actor. So yeah, I think he would nail it.

shirodead 03-31-2006 01:59 AM

yeah maybe he could pull it off
heres a link

Dragon_Prince 03-31-2006 03:23 AM

Mike Myers can do it I guess, he drums, he can be a funny guy and just can act really well

shirodead 03-31-2006 03:27 AM

many of them are arguing that Jason Shwartzman should play Keith Moon. Me, I dont know this guy (hehe I know)

Lunch 03-31-2006 11:58 AM

I'd be happy with Myers doing it. The only problem I'd have with him is that he seems a little bit too old to be playing Moon, but other than that I think he'd be good.

A bit old. But not in the later years. And as you know he acts from behind make-up really well, so I think it sounds good. Just cover up some of those wrinkles, put a brandy in his hand and a gold chain around his neck, pour him into an all purple crushed velvet suit, and BAM, Keith Moon...

Lunch 03-31-2006 03:40 PM

Yea, very good point. I could see that.

By the way, when is this project supposed to get underway?

JohnXDoesn't 03-31-2006 03:47 PM
Yea, very good point. I could see that.

You know, that's the thing. All the news I've seen for it says it's in "pre-production" or "in production" and what have you, but it's obviously not. The cast doesn't even seem to be chosen yet. Or a director, wtf? And I've never seen a report that says principal photography is scheduled to begin. Which means actual filming. So I have my doubts about it as of right now...

Ephemeral 03-31-2006 11:43 PM

More good news:

Hiwatt amps are becoming available to buy in the US and Canada again.

Lunch 04-01-2006 10:32 AM

/turns amp up to "wu-oh!"

That reminds me, I haven't seen the Simpsons Episode with the Who in a long time, which is unfortunate.

Ephemeral 04-01-2006 12:57 PM

That was a pretty good one. I caught the end of it a few months ago again. I can't really remember much of what happened in it. :(

MidnightRider 04-01-2006 04:47 PM

I saw it about a month ago, I love The Simpsons.

I think Myers will make a good Moon. He's sort of crazy.

Ephemeral 04-01-2006 05:16 PM

Are The Who still in the book of world records for the loudest band ever?

Seafroggys 04-01-2006 05:29 PM

No, I think Manowar is the loudest band on record.

Ephemeral 04-01-2006 05:35 PM

Ah, I see.

Lunch 04-01-2006 09:13 PM

Yea, but the Who will always own harder, so it doesn't really matter.

Seafroggys 04-01-2006 09:15 PM

^^exactly

I just got limewire, and with my new DSL, I can finally get music.

So I'm on a Who rampage. Specifically, a Live at Leeds rampage! OMG its so ****ing awesome! It sounds great! Entwistle sounds absolutly good on Heaven and Hell, where on Isle of Wight he sounds thin and weak.

Anyway, I downloaded a version of Heaven and Hell and it sounds like a studio version. I had no clue there was a studio version of that song!

Lunch 04-01-2006 09:19 PM

If this is the first time you're hearing Live at Leeds, you're in for a special treat. So much so that I envy you. That record is beyond amazing, and sound quality is fantastic.

Ephemeral 04-01-2006 11:37 PM

"Crackling noises have been corrected!"

@ Lunch, good point. The Who pwn harder than any other.

JohnXDoesn't 04-01-2006 11:44 PM

Manowar, lol....

JohnXDoesn't 04-02-2006 03:20 AM

Lunch 04-02-2006 08:07 AM

Too bad they aren't coming anywhere near me, just like every other band I'd like to see. How hard is it for groups to come to the DC/Baltimore area? I would go see "The Who Show" if they played around me.

Dragon_Prince 04-02-2006 08:39 AM

You can go see them somewhere else, I'm going to Engalnd(From Holland) just to see them ...

What kind of fan are you? :P

Lunch 04-02-2006 08:57 AM

Not to see the Who Cover band, which is what we were just talking about. Of course I would travel forever to see the actual Who.

Dragon_Prince 04-02-2006 09:15 AM

Oh, so to which show are you going? (I ment the real Who) I'll be at hyde park calling :)

Lunch 04-02-2006 09:20 AM

I don't know yet because they haven't released American tour dates.

temporary 04-02-2006 09:27 AM
I don't know yet because they haven't released American tour dates.
If they don't come to Philly, I'll just catch a train up to New York (which they'll defnitly be going to.) I hope they get their old geezer asses over to America soon!

Lunch 04-02-2006 09:54 AM

I'm assuming they'll come to either DC or Baltimore, but I'll travel if I have too.

Ephemeral 04-02-2006 10:16 AM

I would go to see that Who tribute band if they came near me.

No one comes near me. :upset:

Seafroggys 04-02-2006 05:31 PM

not even your mom....

oh!

anyways, this wasn't answered in my last post, but was there a studio version for Heaven and Hell? Because I downloaded a version that sounds like a studio recording. It has that Who studio sound (different from the live sound) and there were no crowd noises, and it has a fade out.

pigonthewing82 04-02-2006 06:56 PM

I saw the Isle of Wight DVD today it was really good. I was supprised by the interview with Townsend at the end. I knew he was uphappy with the Who, but I never knew he hated it that much.

Lunch 04-02-2006 08:50 PM

Townshend despised the Who, but I think he always knew they were his bes vehicle for any type of musical success. Actually, the same pretty much goes for all members.

pigonthewing82 04-02-2006 08:59 PM

Yeah I remember him saying how he stayed in the group because he knew he worked well with them on a music level. I think I remember him saying how he was impressed by the other band member's ablility just to flow together on a song. As he should, no one can deny how the Who's musically are perfect for each other.
