I have one on slsk, crappy recording done on New Years

Brain Toad 09-26-2005 10:44 PM

I want the official band threads to look more interesting then they do now, so I need your assistance for clever titles. These titles should relate to the band in some way, whether they be songs, albums, lyrics, or quotes. So if you have any ideas, please post them here, and the best idea will be used.

Excursions 09-27-2005 02:02 AM

I blow DK, for a living.

sketchyjoe 09-27-2005 10:31 AM

Spinning on a crowded DK

Brain Toad 09-27-2005 03:33 PM

My download of the new Jello/Melvins album finished today, I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but Kali-Fornia Uber Alels 21st Century is an awesome song. Jello did a great job (as always) as changing to song to be about Arnie.

CombatRock 09-27-2005 04:44 PM

DK vrs. Mario.

Mild_child 09-27-2005 06:52 PM

dead kennedys is good.jello is too

Mild_child 09-27-2005 08:17 PM

okay, very weird request but... does anyone know the lyrics (or can right them down?) to that early version of holiday in cambodia, from the Deaf club record?

CombatRock 09-27-2005 08:32 PM

Is it not the same for FFFRV?

Brain Toad 09-27-2005 08:46 PM
okay, very weird request but... does anyone know the lyrics (or can right them down?) to that early version of holiday in cambodia, from the Deaf club record?
So you been to school
For a year or two
And you know you've seen it all
In daddy's car
You know you'll go far
Back east your type don't crawl

You like Teddy Strazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
So you can say you know
How the n'iggers feel cold
As they rot in some ... ghettos

It's time to taste what you most fear
Right the girl will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear…
Brace yourself, my dear…

It's a holiday in Cambodia
It's tough, kid, but it's life
It's a holiday in Cambodia
Don't forget to pack a wife

You're a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leach
You want everyone to look like you
The women are always saying
...
...

Well you'll work harder
With a GUN in your back
And a bowl of rice a day
Work just
Like all the rest
...

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son…
What you need, my son…

Is a holiday in Cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll kiss *** or crack

Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot,
Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot...

And it's a holiday in Cambodia
Where you'll do what you're told
A holiday in Cambodia
...

Pol Pot!

I couldn't get it all, as it's live, but I tried my best.

EDIT: As this show took place BEFORE Fresh Fruit, the lyrics weren't finished, and that is why they are different.

CombatRock 09-27-2005 10:20 PM

Is the beat the same and everything though?

Brain Toad 09-28-2005 12:26 AM
Is the beat the same and everything though?
Song is the same, lyrics aren't. Now that I know the show was before FFFRV I can hear some song differences, like speedwise and such.

Mild_child 09-28-2005 03:43 PM

yeah, i always thought the deaf club lyrics were more intresting...but i wonder why jello introduced holiday in cambodia as a 'long-drawn-out-epic' although it was before their first album so it was before it was really popular

Brain Toad 09-28-2005 05:28 PM

Epic doesn't mean popular, it means long, which the song really is because of EBR's guitar lines.

AIRIC 09-28-2005 05:43 PM

Brain Toad 09-28-2005 05:46 PM

I just got done watching this speical in PBS called Get Up Stand Up, it was about music and politics. And when they did the "punk" part it showed Dead Kennedys playing live and what not and talked to Jello allot, and talked but him running for mayor, it was quite funny.

Im watching that right now. Chuck D is talking, did I miss it already?

CombatRock 09-28-2005 10:04 PM

I guess it showed at different times, im central times. Chuck D talks allot in it, if its the part about rap, you have missed it.

Mild_child 09-29-2005 05:26 PM

it looks like DK is making a 25 anniversary reiusseue of Fresh Fruit which comes with a sexeh DVD. I'd really like the dvd but i already got the cd and don't want to buy it again,

this part of the site made me laugh

The bonus documentary DVD on the 25th anniversary of “Fresh Fruit” touches on the early days of Dead Kennedys and goes in-depth about the recording of the album, the songs that were featured on the album, the significance of the band itself and rare images of early pressings of the album, promotional campaigns, posters, early singles (45s), rare posters and articles written about the band. New interviews were conducted with Dead Kennedys’ guitarist East Bay Ray, bassist Klaus Flouride, Ninotchka (former lead-singer Jello Biafra’s ex-wife), Dead Kennedys first manager Chi Chi, Dirk Dirksen, promoter of the Mabuhay Gardens where the band got their start, Oliver DiCicco who engineered ‘Fresh Fruit’ and other Dead Kennedys albums, Iain McNay, co-founder of Cherry Red Records who owns “Fresh Fruit” as well respected music journalists, Johnny Angel, Eric Himmelsbach and Craig Rosen. Former lead-singer Jello Biafra was asked to participate and chose not to.

I have the CD already and, as tempting as the DVD sounds, I won't buy this.

I also never knew that Jello was married. :amaze:

Brain Toad 09-29-2005 05:55 PM

I knew he was/is married, but never knew her name.

I may pick it up, probably not because it'll be expensive.

Wait, he has a new wife now? I really can't picture Jello in a 'loving' relationship.

I didn't know if Ninotchka (whose name I just found out) was still married to him or not.

Ya i have dead kennedys live DMPOs on broadway
its good but the sound on nazi punks goes down a bit
but its funny to watch jello

guns_of_brixton 10-01-2005 08:39 AM

Nick can probably answer this question: do any DK members have kids?

Brain Toad 10-01-2005 12:14 PM
I really want a dvd of DK live.
DMPOs on Boardway is pretty good, so is Early Years. In God We Trust Inc The Lost Tapes has live footage too. I have a video recording of their show in Oregon, where they recorded Night of the Living Rednecks, and it's a really good show Jello wise. That whole show is funny, even just audio because Jello is making fun of Ray for breaking his string and having the change it off stage, then tune off stage because he is shy, at least Jello says.
Nick can probably answer this question: do any DK members have kids?
There is so little information about their personal lives out there. EBR might have some, he seems like the kind of guy who had settled down, not sure about any other members.

Anxious 10-01-2005 12:40 PM

Whats the file name of the Night of the Living rednecks video, so i can get it off soulseek.

WorldWideTakeover 10-02-2005 05:11 PM

Huh... it just hit me that I was 20 feet from Jello a week ago at the thing in DC. Wow that was cool. He really should be president.

guns_of_brixton 10-02-2005 08:19 PM

I'm listening to Plastic Surgery Disasters in alphabetical order.

Buzzbomb 10-04-2005 05:51 PM

How come Alternative Tentacles doesn't list all of DK's original albums? Are they out of print now, or is it something to do with the Manifesto reprints?
