Sorry, I just got carried away. You see, Iron Maiden have a song called Number Of The Beast, but that's beside the point.

Ok, when you say 666, you usually refer to the Devil's beast, which is basically "evil" incarnate, which was formed to exist on this mortal plane.

It is a reference to the Book of Revelations from the Bible.

However, people on the forums usually use it (wrongly) in relation to the Devil himself. i.e. "fake_name666" would be trying to show everyone how cool he is by associating himself with the devil... etc.
