ATM 12-16-2006 09:27 PM

EITS are playing 9:30 Club and Do Make Say Think are at the Black Cat. That DMST show will be nuts because it's in the backstage, which is very tiny.

Amit 12-16-2006 09:28 PM

is that like in baltimore or what

ATM 12-16-2006 09:45 PM

Both are in DC. You can get there on the metro pretty easily.

Amit 12-16-2006 09:46 PM

so what are the dates for the concertz

ATM 12-16-2006 09:48 PM

Sa 3/17 Explosions In The Sky 6pm Doors @ 9:30 club

SUN APR 1- DO MAKE SAY THINK $10 backstage 9:00 @ Black Cat

Auberge le Mouton Noir 12-17-2006 10:04 AM

If you're anywhere near there, go and see them! DMST are a great band, i wish i could see them live :(

Amit, which is the best Early Porcupine Tree Album? I've got (downloaded  ) deadwing and i really like it, but it can be a bit heavy for me and i heard the early stuff was less heavy?

Txus 12-17-2006 10:04 AM

Get Stupid Dream.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-17-2006 10:09 AM

My beef with Stupid Dream is that there's no epic track like Lightbulb Sun has. Russia on Ice is one of my top 5 favorite Porcupine Tree tracks forsho'.

With that said, get Signify. It's less music than new PT tends to be, but it's got a lot more ambient psychadelic stuff going on, so it's a more representative sample of their entire career.

Daven 12-17-2006 11:57 AM

Signify is the best PT.

So I've been listening to GY!BE a lot lately. I forgto how good these guys are.

Kage 12-17-2006 11:58 AM

I third Signify if you're trying to get a taste of older Porcupine Tree.

Spiritofmosa 12-17-2006 10:36 PM

recently i've been into god is an astronaut.. i really like the way they arrange the songs and their drums. However i couldnt find any of their albums in HMV over here.

ThePinkPanther 12-18-2006 04:04 PM
Esmerine make really beautiful music. I'm not quite sure if you can call it post-rock though, it sounds much more like minimalism ā la Arvo Pärt. There are no climaxes and such, but that's what's makes it interesting as a whole.

I've actually been thinking of starting a similar style of band with me on various (percussive) instruments and someone else playing violin or cello.
well it has some characteristics of postrock but whatever

i've been thinking of something similar to that too. but with a glockenspiel and flute and whatever else i want.

Zebra 12-18-2006 08:17 PM

How's the new Explosions in the Sky album? Anyone heard it yet?

pretty good

AA-12 12-21-2006 09:13 PM

So, guys. I'm looking for albums/bands similiar to ( ) era Sigur Ros. Basically stuff to sleep and relax to.

TojesDolan 12-21-2006 09:32 PM

I relax to Mogwai and Jaga Jazzist, but then again I'm a fucking weirdo.

Probably Burton Wagner's "In the realms..." or some Tortoise...

EDIT: EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY! =)

check out this band called M83

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2006 03:26 PM

Guys, I'm wrong I think, so correct me.

Jesu is post rock.

AA-12 12-22-2006 03:27 PM

They are, but bad post rock.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2006 03:32 PM

Okay well anyways, I found a leak to their new album. I think it's pretty good. It's not a very atmospheric sound and the focus seems to be on the singing, (at least on the opening track) but I wouldn't call it bad.

Kage 12-22-2006 03:50 PM

Jesu is sweet. Which album of theirs do you have?

Moon Flavor 12-22-2006 03:50 PM

Jesu's Silver EP is amazzzzzzzing beyond belief.

Go back to the BM thread, fatty.

Kage 12-22-2006 03:53 PM

Silver owns hard.

bwnstl 12-22-2006 04:30 PM

Jesu's alright. They're a little too drone-oriented for me though.

Kage 12-22-2006 05:33 PM

I'm listening to the new Jesu album and it's really awesome. To get into Jesu you have to listen to the nuanced layering of it, it's got some pretty sweet elements underneath those droning guitars.

Indeed. I'll be seeing Isis in Feb and Jesu is supporting them in practically every country besides NZ. :(

Instead we get a NZ post rock band called Jakob. They're a decent band, but don't compare to Jesu. If you're want to hear them, go to myspace.com/jakobmusic and listen to Semaphore.

Meanwhile, I've been listening to EITD non stop lately.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2006 05:47 PM

Kage - Conqueror. I sent the link I found to Oz, is that the new one you're talking about?

Kage 12-22-2006 05:50 PM

rhcp man - Yep, I'll be seeing Jesu and Isis on that tour. :D

Jake - Conqueror is their new one, yeah. It's some sweet action. What do you think of it?

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-22-2006 05:53 PM

I've only listened to the first couple tracks, but it's allright. A different kind of atmosphere, but pretty good nonetheless.

Kage 12-22-2006 05:56 PM

A lot of the tracks have an almost optimistic feeling in the synth/vocal parts which is strange compared to the relatively nihilistic atmosphere of Silver.
