nahh...that would be too similar....i say get one of the Vault Artisan rides when they come out :thumb:

borge 03-19-2005 02:26 AM

This might be a stupid question but, when a Cymbal means fast decay what does that mean?

redhotslipknot 03-19-2005 02:33 AM

Hats and ride. The only cymbal on my set im currently keepin is my A Custom Projection 18" crash (The rest are ZXT or ZBT). So obviously i wanna replace em i was wonderin wheter to start with hats or ride and wat to get. i don't mind mixing brands or anything like that and i play mostly metal and rock but i don't wanna limit myself to them to much.

Decay is the amount of time it takes to fade off. Fast decay means that it fades very quickly, like a fast crash. Quick, bright, and the sound fades fast.

Look into some Paiste Sigs, you'll never go wrong

On a more economical note.. you can look at maybe A New Beat hats, maybe a Sabian HH Rock Ride.

bobby__johnny 03-19-2005 08:29 AM

more economical, yes.....really saving money - not really....they're still gonna run around $400 for the pair. if your willing to spend $400, you might as well save up and Get whatever you want.
This might be a stupid question but, when a Cymbal means fast decay what does that mean?
think Splash cymbals....doesnt get any faster for decay.

redhotslipknot 03-19-2005 09:35 AM

ok thanks for the advice.

Nice choice, but how bout a K 19" medium thin or a K 18" crash/ride? Might give you some more sounds. Or maybe different sized rides as apposed to 3 20"s?

ping ride cymbals

Im looking into buying a zildjian a custom ping ride cymbal. What did you guys think of it

Egnar401 03-20-2005 10:45 PM

i bought a sabian xs20 20" ride today, it's pretty nice. i saw the a custom, it sounded really good, and i was also looking at a hand-hammered 20" and a paragon 21" (all rides obviously). the xs20, IMO, was the best sounding for its price. i don't recall how much the a custom ping was, maybe 170 (trying to remember offhand), and i spent 110 on the xs20. now to upgrade the rest of my cymbals from b8's to whatever the f--k i want :)

Badkarma05 03-21-2005 12:34 AM

FNG here, I've been drumming for a little over a year now and am in the market for a 19" crash to ride on. I play alot of hardrock/metal but also some funk and jazzy type stuff on occasion. Anyways my current cymbal setup is a 20" A Ping Ride, 17" A Custom Projection Crash, and 14" A Mastersound hihats. I have been considering a 19" A Rock Crash because it's a little thicker and still has a nice musical sound too it. But at the same time I love the sound of my A Custom Pro. Crash when I need to ride it, and have been thinking about a 19" version of it. I'm just wondering if it's to thin to be constantly riding. Suggestions? Comments? Thanks guys!

19" A Custom would be a great addition to your set, I have an 18" model and its a great crash to ride on.

bobby__johnny 03-21-2005 02:48 PM

i would go with the A Rock. its extra weight will give is some more sustain to blend in well for the riding.

Static 03-21-2005 05:20 PM

yeah i love sabian cymbals and i was wondering if a vault crash is worth it. right now i have b8 and b8 pros, so im upgradin

AvantGarde58 03-21-2005 06:27 PM

Can anyone recommend a ride cymbal that has dark overtones, good wash/sustain and "cuts through?" I do not really like cymbals, particularily the ride, to be too shimmering or pingy. Right now I have Zildjian K an 18" constantinople and 20" EAK with A mastersound hi hats. Please guide me with a ride cymbal that might complement this setup. I perfer Zildjian but other brands are welcome too. I've tried the A 21" Sweet Ride and A 20" Medium ride and really like their sound. Good choices?

PrescribedNonsense 03-22-2005 03:57 PM

Can anyone suggest a moderately cheap (but giggable) crash cymbal that makes a good crash sound, and stops. It doesn't keep resonating. I don't want to be able to hear it 20 seconds after I hit it.

I know some of you will flame me, but that's how I like my crash cymbals.

Seafroggys 03-22-2005 11:27 PM

^^^A Thin, maybe medium-thin crash should do the trick. Try going for Wuhans....I don't know what models mine were, but for the same price as B8Pros I got something quite intermediate sounding.

bobby__johnny 03-23-2005 09:47 PM

i say look into the AA/AAX lines first. more diversity, lower price tag.

Hand Hammered Medium-heavy Ride.

i agree with Seafroggys, an A or AA Medium Thin...but for gigging, i'd suggest the Medium. when you add other instruments (Especially amplfied ones) you will quickly notice a long sustaining cymbal be shortened.

Der Meister 03-24-2005 02:54 PM

how much would a few small dents around the outside of a 8" signature spalsh affect it's sound? I just got one for £25 on ebay. If it's anygood I'll sell my alpha.

bobby__johnny 03-24-2005 09:17 PM

well, for 25 pounds i'd say it was a good deal. kinda like playing roullette with sound....might turn out fine.

yourstruly 03-24-2005 10:47 PM

i'm really want a second crash, and I was wondering what a good one for play
rock/metal/punk rock etc.., prederably zildjian or sabian and in the 18 - 19" range.
I want to have 2 of the same kind eventually so what would be a good pair?

Seafroggys 03-24-2005 11:20 PM

^^^My 18" AA Medium Crash is wonderful.

If you're looking at a more modern sound, AAXs and A Customs might be your gig.

TTTSNB 03-24-2005 11:33 PM

I Just looked at and played the Sabian 21" HH Raw Bell Dry Ride. Sounded great. The only thing was... It was 280 BUCKS! Is that rediculous? My AA 21" Rock ride was around 170.

Epiphender 03-25-2005 12:47 AM

What ride did you get for 170?

Seafroggys 03-25-2005 12:55 AM

Any one size of cymbal within a specific line of Sabian will always cost the same. a 20" ride will cost the same as a 20" crash or 20" china, etc. I think for the HH, a $280 seems a bit much for an HH. HHs can't be that much more expensive then AAs, and I got my 18" AA for $137.
