The most famous cover of "With a Little Help From My Friends" is by Joe Cocker, so that may be the version you have.
I think Ive heard a diferent one though.

Ringo does it the best though.:)

DeusExMachina 12-16-2004 07:47 PM

Yeah, thats the one. Joe Cocker. Its unbelievable.

Woodstock 12-16-2004 08:17 PM

Yeah, Joe Cocker performed it at Woodstock. He was so stoned.

DeusExMachina 12-16-2004 08:28 PM

Hahaha. Funny guy.

Walrus Gumboot 12-16-2004 08:29 PM

Apperently so was everyone at woodstock
About that question before: definatly acid rock

Question: Do you think that the Beatles would have gone their legendary way (I am thinking of the split between the old stuff and the later stuff) If they never met Bob Dylan, and Bob Dylan never gave them drugs (haha)? Would they have slowly faded away, (maybe like Elvis) if they didn't take that turn? How influential was Dylan?

I'm sure they would've eventually taken pot. But they did start to listen to Dylan at the time, and he influenced them a lot.

So, no.

Kingadamx 12-16-2004 09:12 PM

I think that John Lennon had the best solo career out of all of the Beatles, although my favorite solo Beatles album is George Harrison's All Things Must Pass.

My favorite Beatles Album is Sgt.Pepper's.
My favorite Beatle is John.
I like Let it Be.....Naked better.

I think they would have gotten drugs from some one else, they where so big it was inevetable(sp?).
They got into acid when Brian Epstein slip it into George an Johns drinks during a dinner. They liked it and got Paul and Ringo into it.

BludgeonySteve 12-16-2004 09:15 PM

John was certainly the most creative Beatles while they were together. I think George had a better solo career though.

Imperial_Bard 12-16-2004 09:20 PM

there's a few really awesome but seldom discussed Beatles songs, rocky raccoon, piggies, and everyone's got something to hide except for me and my monkey, that don't get enough recognition in my opinion, what do you lot think of these songs?

rocky raccoon is so funny, yet such a good song ;). The Beatles' diversity at its best.

gmoneyguy 12-16-2004 09:32 PM

Don't you forget Buffalo Bill.

Seafroggys 12-16-2004 11:00 PM
Don't you forget Buffalo Bill.
LOL! Thats funny. I think you mean Bungalow Bill.

Oh, and also, Joe Cocker was *not* stoned at Woodstock contrary to popular belief. Everyone else in his band were, but not him. He was one of the few clean ones on stage.

"They got into acid when Brian Epstein slip it into George an Johns drinks during a dinner. They liked it and got Paul and Ringo into it."

-Actually, a dentist that was friends with George had George & Pati and John & Cynthia at his house for dinner, and he slipt it into their coffee's..then after they went to a night club and we're all in histarics.

Yes that is true. I don't know why anyone would consider Brian slipping the Beatles LSD, but whatever. You can read about the experience in the Anthology Book.
What does everyone think of Please Please Me as an album? I'm writing a review of it at the moment, and I think it's REALLY underrated by a lot of people, who just compare it to some of their later work, and don't really go back to it as it's not as good as some of their other CDs. And of course it was very important as an album, even leaving aside the musical quality of it.
I think it's a very good record, but it's aged very badly.

Another 'what does everyone think' strand - does anyone else feel that Sgt. Peppers is the WORST album The Beatles ever did? The only songs I can stomach listening to are A Day In The Life and LitSwD. It's one of only two Beatles records I dislike (Let It Be is the other).

I don't think it's their worst, but it's definetly over rated to me.

Walrus Gumboot 12-17-2004 05:47 PM

I was afraid it was too good to be true... you know
How eccentric

gmoneyguy 12-17-2004 05:54 PM

They are songs that they did for the fan club.

My economics teacher showed them to me.

Aren't you glad you don't have to back up anything you say.

DeusExMachina 12-18-2004 12:38 AM

greenmonkey, what the hell are you talking about? So you've got a lot of albums, goo for you. Way to not contribute to the conversation at all, and just insult people in the thread.

That link is really awesome. I can't believe they have it up. That's great.

A little late but....

I dont know why people consider Sgt. Peppers such a great psychadaelic(sp?) album. It has good songs, but the only song that is stand out psychadaelic is LitSwD.

edit: But, I have only been able to skim through the album.

That's true, individual songs off that album sound pretty bad, but if you listen to it as a whole, it'll sound much better. It's mainly the flow of the album that makes it so good.
