Is Tobias Sammet the guy that wrote the music for the Avantasia albums?
I think so yeah. Impressive that he's such a busy guy and only in his mid-twenties.
Hey I was wondering if someone could help me put together a good Power Metal mix CD.
I've Nocturnal Rites. It was good solid power metal, nothing more. I haven't heard the others however.
I remember their music being pretty good, but singer sounded like an 80's hair metal vocalist, which really ruined it for me. |
I was wondering if anybody has ever seen Edguy live. they are touring with Running Wild and Iron Savior. the ticket is 50$ and I was wndering if it's worth the money.

It is most awesome to see our beloved Power Metal thread in the first page, let's keep it like that.
BTW who's into Symphony X (Prog Power)? I ****ing love them. |

:amaze: How do you not hear the power metal in their songs, especially their older ones. Songs like "Out of the Ashes" "Of Sins and Shadows" just scream power metal.
|
After pirating half of the ablum, I saw Savatage's Hall of the Mountain King available at a local shop for 10 bucks. ****ing good deal. It's been on heavy rotation the last couple of days. So I'm here to spread the word of Criss Oliva's sadly underrated genius.
Savatage isn't pure Power Metal like Blind Guardian, but they've got elements such as the songwriting and strong melody. Check them out whenever you get the chance. |
Fuck yeah! I didn't know there was a powermetal thread until someone told me in a thread I made searching for powermetal bands. Well anyway I'm pretty new to powermetal so ignore any idiotic remarks I may make for now. Back in the day Yngwie Malmsteen had some band but I do not know there name, but were they powermetal? I have heard songs like "Fire and Ice" and "Eclipse" that seem powermetal-ish to my ears, am I wrong? Please provide me with the name with this old band even if it isn't powermetal. I heard Iced Earth and Nightwish were considered powermetal, I have never thought that, what I have heard of Iced Earth doesn't seem to have the fast tempo like alot of otehr bands do. Same going with Nightwish, which I have loved for awhile now. Also I know of Hammerfall, but I heard three seperate songs and two were slow songs and the other was just boring, and it sounding nothing like what I think of powermetal.
Also, I am the only fan of powermetal around here that I know of, everyone around here is into Slipknot crap, Rap, or Country. I have found peopel into metal liek All That Remains and such, but they would think powermetal is pussy music, heh, any tips on enlightening these fools? S.O.B. |
^ Recommend some power/thrash, USPM bands.
And, I think teh Mamsteen band you're talking about is Rising Force, I could be wrong however. |

Well I just heard a few more and now I can hear the power in it. |
S.O.B. check out these songs by Hammerfall:
Trailblazers Hearts on Fire Always Will Be Riders on the Storm On the edge of honour |
Kill them or show them some Helloween.

That would be Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force. Also, Malmsteen is a neo-classic guy, and mostly considered Shred Metal instead of Power.
I heard Iced Earth and Nightwish were considered powermetal, I have never thought that, what I have heard of Iced Earth doesn't seem to have the fast tempo like alot of otehr bands do. Same going with Nightwish, which I have loved for awhile now.
Iced Earth is indeed Power Metal, but with an emphasis on riffs typical of Thrash. Power Metal doesn't necessarily have to have a fast tempo, even though it does require a high degree of musicianship. Nightwish is Power/Symphonic. For me, the defining characteristics for Power Metal are the esoteric/sword-n'-sorcery-themed lyrics, a driving rhythm section, and a tight sense of melody. Sometimes it takes a while to grow on them, other times they're just going to continue not liking Power Metal. In the case of the latter, I just enjoy getting under their skin about it by singing out choruses from Blind Guardian and Rhapsody, shouting "Death to false metal!", and just making overall sarcastic comments. I'm such a bastard. |

BTW who's into Symphony X (Prog Power)? I ****ing love them.
One of my favorite bands, actually. Right now, "V: The New Mythology Suite" is my favorite album. Lacrymosa = ****ing awesome. |
Edguy are a ****ing awesome power metal band, the latest offering "Hellfire Club" kicks massive ***, especially the song "The Piper Never Dies" which is one of the greatest songs they have ever done.
Hammerfall are ok...they get a tad cheesy at times but I really like the song "Raise the Hammer" one of the best instrumentals i've ever heard. Children of Bodom kick massive *** too...blistering guitars. |
Am I the only power metal fan who really likes Hammerfall?
|
Oh yeah and sometime I got to pick up that Edguy cd, Hellfire club.

I haven't heard enough of them to say. I have no money and can't pirate while in campus, so it will have to wait. |

Yeah. Hammerfall is meh. |
Yeah. Hammerfall is meh.
You must not have heard much. If you have and you don't like them then your musical taste sucks. They are so talented. |
I can testify that sensetiveorgan's musical taste most definetly does *not* suck.

I speak out of anger and disbelief. |
What do you find so great about Hammerfall? It's pretty generic, maybe a fun listen, but I don't find it anything more than that.
And my thanks goes to Ted. :thumb: |
