Later Brian.

I want to do something post-hardcore-ish.

I have a few ideas, but I don't want to say them in here because that ruins it.
blaghafoqfugazialkjfhq.

Oh, excuse me.

Go read the last page of the emo/screamo community thread, theres a story there about my lesbian teachers.

cobert 12-15-2005 08:38 PM
What is "post hardcore" anyways?
Its a very broad genre, but for a reason. A band basically takes a hardcore-rooted sound, then puts a twist on it. Its like, a progressive form of hardcore.

B 12-15-2005 08:39 PM

Yeah, that's about it basically. Progressive Hardcore.

Pazz 12-15-2005 08:40 PM

Well, I'm messing around with audacity, and I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm going to head out for the night, hope to talk to you guys in the morning.

B 12-15-2005 08:40 PM

lol i r invisable

ZaaR 12-15-2005 08:40 PM

Bands?

cobert 12-15-2005 08:46 PM
Bands?
Like I said, its a very broad genre and has a lot of different sounds:

At the Drive-In
some Hot Water Music
Fugazi
Quicksand
Trophy Scars

Theres alot more, i think the list on the wikipedia page for the genre has a prety nice listing.

ZaaR 12-15-2005 08:48 PM

I love ATDI and what I've heard from Hot Water Music is pretty damn good too.

B 12-15-2005 08:48 PM

How did I forget ATD-I?

On The Might Of Princes are also really good.

CommieCanada 12-15-2005 08:49 PM

my band is going to be on a compilation of bands from Texas, but its going to be released nationwide

cool!

B 12-15-2005 08:52 PM

Oh?

Bands you're a part of seem to do well. It's all that former Canadian-ness I think :p.

CommieCanada 12-15-2005 08:59 PM
Nice. whats the comp/your band called?
The comp is going to be titled Lone Star Throwdown i think. its still in the early stages of production as only 5 of the 12 slots have been filled. we dont have a band name yet really. we are tossing around some ideas like On a Wire, Prevail, and Citizen but thats about it. we're not good with the band names thing
Oh?

i've had my share of failed projects too. I'm just a hard worker when i get excited about something

I can tell. Your Westbound Departure stuff was really great.

cobert 12-15-2005 09:02 PM

Andy: what genre do you play? hardcore?

EDIT: OmgZ, same queshton by 2 ppl lolz

B 12-15-2005 09:06 PM

almost the same stuff really. People compare us with stuff like Copeland, old Jimmy Eat World, MAE, and stuff like that. a lot of acoustic stuff and ambience. im really liking it though

B 12-15-2005 09:08 PM

Sounds pretty good.

CommieCanada 12-15-2005 09:10 PM

im trying to break away from the near whispered vocals thing now though, but i dont know how well it will work. i dont have much of a vocal range so i might go in and out of falsetto every one in a while

cobert 12-15-2005 09:16 PM

lolz brandon.

ANDY: Because one of your band name ideas was prevail and the comp was called Lone Star Throwdown, i assumed you were hardcore. prevail sounds like a hxc band name.

I would soooooo love to either be in an uber cheesy midwestern poppy type emo band, a regular emo band, or a hxc band.

Im trying now to convince my guitarist that we need a singer that can scream. I'd love to have one that can get all worked up like me, so that way we can have him scream and cry in the one part of a song. My vision all along was to have an extremely emotional part in that song, but the way things are going, our singer might be some pretty boy (ahem, "pus'sy" is more like it).

I like the whispered vocals, although mixing it up a bit would give it more variety.

Cob: If you didn't live so far I'd sing in your band. I need a band I can sing in :(

yeah man, i actually do something vocally like that where in the last line of a song i let my voice go. i heard Ace do that on the last track of the full length Early November album and it really struck a chord with me and i had to do it. The song that we are going to record for the comp is one of the most emotional and heartfelt songs i have written, so if it feels right when i am tracking vocals i might do something like that

I see what youre talking about. Even though i dont like E11, i thought that was kind of cool.

BRANDONI: move. we need a singer.

The song my band is working on now is our third (none of them have vocals). Its not bad, it just seem kind of poppy. It sounds wierd, almost like new finch, but just the structure and length and the way the song moves into the chorus seems all too poppy. It just wouldnt fit witht he other 2 songs. And ive said before that i prefer either no chrous or a short chorus to a big, overproduced chorus that appears like, 4 times in a song.

Mute Print 12-15-2005 09:33 PM

It doesn't hurt to have a bit of variety in your music. Just because it doesn't fit with your other songs doesn't make it bad.

yeah i know what you mean. Thursday does the no Chorus thing a lot and if they do have choruses the lyrics usually change. i really dig that. it makes them a lot more progressive

Finding a full band for me is almost impossible. Especially since everyone int my town that can actually play an instrument is in to Metal and/or Classic rock, and nothing else. I'd be able to pull of a decent Metal type thing but when I say Metal, I mean Metallica and that's basically it.

Ps. I know someone who lives in Philly, although I'm not sure how close to Pittsburgh they are.

quoted for truth. when you have vocals it might sound like it fits you better. vocals really bring bands together
