kitsch 01-17-2012 07:02 PM

WHAT THE FUCK

nat assembly is really good but cremation lily is fucking choice. def top 2 or 3 current noise/pe artists for me.

count im gonna have a rip of sickness/demo; white skin and copper roof houses comp up on s4d in a couple days

listening to a local bands cassette, it's blowing me away

theyre called hymnal bruise

Countorus 01-17-2012 07:28 PM

they're good but i'm not into it as much as you guys, plus i really really like the natural assembly demo.

that would be amazing, white skin is currently my favorite (neon lights very close behind) and i havent even heard the shit from the copper comp. look forward to the post

FUC 61 - Hostage Pageant - Filth Consumption Tactics (C20)
Insanely complex harsh noise from this future master. Layers, dynamics and textures take you on what feels like a roller coaster ride that has bolted off its tracks. You want your HN harsher you say? This is for you.

got this in the mail today. gunna take a listen. love me some harsh noise

shortz 01-17-2012 08:42 PM
i got her into it lol
Haha he did. I blame him for my addiction now.
listening to a local bands cassette, it's blowing me away

I have that cassette too. I agree, really good but unfortunately since it's on a recycled tape, half of mine is warped or sounds that way (unless it's supposed to be that way to add to the "eerie-ness") - is yours cool all the way through? I should listen to it again, been a while.

Love Auris, such a cool label.

Countorus - I'm assuming you've heard of Prairie Fire Tapes?

kitsch 01-17-2012 08:54 PM

yeah, auris is cool, not as consistent in quality as some labels, but 80% of the shit on their discog is great.

yeah the recycled tapes are supposed to add another organic element, make each copy of the tape unique. cool in theory, might not work well every time in practice. mine sounds great. there is a big almost silent part toward the end after the uplifting flute-sounding crescendo, but i figured that was supposed to be in there.

ive been loving the music scene here in bloomington since i moved. last summer they had the two of my fav shows ever, one the day after the other, liars (w/ john weise) and lightning bolt. such a welcome change from my hometown, which had like crappy high school metalcore bands, christian rock and lame ass djs that play dingy clubs.

i had not heard of prairie fire, shit, theres just so much out there, just when you think that you've got decent exposure. what other labels are you into shortz?

jon that tape looks hella good

kitsch 01-17-2012 09:06 PM

haz, i just finished listening to your track all the way through. let me say this -- there were parts of it that i enjoyed immensely. there were some very interesting textures and juxtapositions. however, a lack of continuity made the track seem kind of messy. a nice drone would be laying underneath everything and then it would suddenly be gone. transitions (other than the intentional ones) were kind of jarring. youve got a lot of good ideas, but i would parse them out and try to come up with a few elements that you want to keep consistent throughout the track, or at least, slowly morph them.

another thing i would like to see you try is using the blasts of noise that you are using but experiment with volume. what if the drone was louder than the noise? what if you could make the noise seem almost soft?

just some things to think about.

i dont want to come off harsh or as a dick, but i also didn't want to just say "good" or "dece" cause i hate that when i am actually looking for feedback.

shortz 01-17-2012 09:08 PM

Yeah, you can never keep up with new tapes or the finding new labels I've noticed haha.

Prairie Fire's local but one of my favs. They're only 2 years old (I found out about them through my uni music mag) and they release a lot of noise/drone etc stuff - pretty consistent, I think. They actually released 10 new tapes a few days ago, I went down and picked up 8 of them haha. :/

Strange Rules is really good I've been ordering a lot of stuff from them lately. Actually got Royal Tropical Institute in the mail today, haven't listened to it yet though. Um, I dig Crimes Against Skin too, Worthless, Phage isn't too bad, Dead Accents. I like some of the samples I've heard from Waterpower, haven't ordered anything from them though.

Aakon_Keetreh 01-17-2012 09:20 PM

i wiill be listening toniiight. its from the new fusty cunt batch

strange rules is pretty tight, i got RTI in the mail today, listened to it about 4 times. its short and sweet. pretty unique. its like vatican shadow, but more lo-fi and organic and less beat oriented.

Dead Accents is cool, and I'm loosely familiar with the others that you mentioned, but i'll have to give them more of a look now. I recommend Violent Pink and Ritual Stance from Waterpower. both are excellent. violent pink is power electronics with some harsh noise and ritual stance has an accent on atmosphere.

Oddly enough I have both artists - I have all of Violent Pink minus Let Me Check if My Parents Are In and I have Ritual Stance's Keeping Her Quiet.
