AUSTRALIAN PINK FLOYD TOMORROW!

I'm bound to **** my pants waiting. :D

Britton 11-02-2005 04:08 PM

what are you talking about?

standard 11-02-2005 04:10 PM

www.aussiefloyd.com

Pink Floyd cover band.. Rather good actually. Going to see them tomorrow.. Can't wait.

Britton 11-02-2005 04:28 PM

That looks cool man

Riva 11-02-2005 04:48 PM

You won't regret it. Also, if you ever see Beyond The Darkside advertised, make sure you see them also. Another fantastic Floyd cover band, from Australia also! :D

guitarded_chuck 11-02-2005 04:49 PM

I saw Aussie Floyd last year. It was a nice show. I was lucky enough to find myself sitting next to their manager, who was very friendly and old'ish. I was treated to some very neat stories.

I might go again in December. It isn't a very cheap show, so I don't know if it's worth seeing a tribute band twice.

DeusExMachina 11-02-2005 04:51 PM

Those crazy aussies. When I saw them, it was very cool. They had a video to go along with their performance of DSOTM, and it centered around a computer animated kangaroo.

standard 11-02-2005 04:57 PM

I seen them last year as well, but this year more of my friends were in to Floyd, so they wanted to go, and how could I pass it up! $25 for main floor tickets aren't too bad either.

DeusExMachina 11-02-2005 05:57 PM

$25 is a very good deal. It was quite a bit more expensive for the show I went to, and I didn't even get very good seats.

standard 11-02-2005 06:12 PM

Yeah, last year when I went it was $45 a seat, but we got 8th row.. And it was my first concert.

You could say it was a mistake to go to such a good concert for my first, because now nothing else compares. :P

guitarded_chuck 11-02-2005 07:20 PM

Yeah, tickets here are $45 a seat. Pretty expensive for a tribute if you ask me. I'd like to see them again, but I'll save my concert monies for another time.

Britton 11-02-2005 09:11 PM

Wow I would maybe pay 20 but not 45

I hope they rock

Scuba_Steve 11-02-2005 09:41 PM

Today I listened to Piper at the gates of Dawn all the way through in detail today.

And I must say, I might have a new favorite floyd album. But I was just wondering, it Syd's solo work anything like PATGOD?

Nope. It is more lyrically driven. The Madcap Laughs is mostly singing and acoustic guitar.

Britton 11-02-2005 09:49 PM

Which I tend to enjoy

Not at all. It's Syd playing acoustic guitar and singing. Not even very psychedelic.

Britton 11-03-2005 01:33 PM

I think at the time he was trying to get outta that stuff and do
something new.

It's a shame he doesn't play anymore

temporary 11-03-2005 03:19 PM

If I can find seats for twenty, I'll go when the come to Philly, but other than that I won't.

standard 11-03-2005 03:32 PM

It's a good show, and a good band.

The guitarist and Gilmour himself are the only ones who have Gilmours wah pedal. Gilmour modifies them, and no one knows quite how he mods it, but anyway.. Gilmour gave the guitarist from Aussie Floyd his modified wah to him for his b-day... And Gilmour also hired them to play at his 50th birthday..

Britton 11-03-2005 04:04 PM

That's awsome

are they friends

I heard about that. They played Comfortably Numb with Rick Wright, or something, too.

robo2448 11-03-2005 04:11 PM

Tickets are 37.50 for NYC. Should I go?

Spinal Pap 11-03-2005 04:19 PM

I've always wondered if Gilmour,Waters,Wright, and Mason actually listened to their own music in their free time. You would think that they'd be almost sick of it having heard and played it so much.

PinkFloyd 11-03-2005 04:26 PM

*has seen aussie floyd*

I'd recommend it.

I think that Syd's solo stuff is pretty psychadelic, not necessarily in instrumentation, but the music itself is pretty out there. But, I haven't listened to it at all recently, so I may be remembering incorrectly.

Gilmour doesn't modify them, he hired some guy to.

The whales-having-intercourse part in Echoes (I think that's what we dubbed it) used one of those pedals and there were only 4 made. Gilmour has 3 and the Aussie Floyd guitarist has 1. What a lucky guy.

guitarded_chuck 11-03-2005 08:39 PM

At any of these Aussie Floyd concerts you guys went to, did they play any Syd-era stuff? I had heard before that they sometimes played Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive. I was praaaying they'd play either or, but they didn't.

DeusExMachina 11-03-2005 08:41 PM

They played Astronomy Domine when I went.

guitarded_chuck 11-03-2005 08:46 PM

Did they really? Not bad. What was the light show part of the song like?

The best part of the show that I saw was when they played Careful With That Axe, Eugene. It was just a really eerie atmosphere to go along with the song. And when the sweet scream came, the whole stadium erupted! Looked like everything was on fire, red lights flashing everywhere. It was a great effect, inspired by the Pompeii film no doubt.

I can remember the female vocalists doing an amazing job as well. They blew me away during The Great Gig In The Sky.

thunderzstruck 11-03-2005 09:43 PM

damnit!

Australian Pink Floyd plays tomorrow over here and I forgot tickets  :upset:

They start tomorrow over here too. Where do you live? I completely forgot about it also. :upset: I know i'm gonna regret this if they don't come 'round next year. For those who have gone, are they good? And would one appreciate them more if one was a big floyd fan, or a passerby who likes abitwp2?

standard 11-03-2005 11:33 PM

So I went to Aussie Floyd tonight.. AMAZING.

We had main floor tickets, at the place we went had no seats.. So I was less than 2 feet away from the stage, I could literally touch it. It was nuts.

Britton 11-04-2005 01:08 AM

What songs did they play?

magicbus 11-04-2005 11:21 AM

The entire Dark Side of the Moon, and I think a second set also.

standard 11-04-2005 11:25 AM

Yeah, DSoTM, then they played uh..

Learning To Fly
Keep Talking
Astronomy Domine
Another Brick In The Wall Pt.2
Comfortably Numb (amazing solo)
Careful With That Axe Eugene
One Of These Days
In The Flesh (Pt. 2)
Run Like Hell
Have A Cigar
Shine On (I - V)
Wish You Were Here

I believe that's all.. o.O

Pictures soon!

Take a Crybaby and plug it in backwards (the guitar plug going into the amp jack, etc). You'll get a sound very similar to the "whales having intercourse" part of "Echoes". Only trouble is that it's been so long since I did this, that I'm not entirely sure if that's how I actually did it. All I know is that I did something to my wah pedal and got the "whales having intercourse" effect.

magicbus 11-04-2005 11:37 AM

I did that with my wah pedal and nothing happened, no sound came through at all.

DeusExMachina 11-04-2005 12:01 PM

That doesn't work. If you did that, the sound from the amp would be output by the guitar. But, since the guitar can't output and the amp doesn't make noise on its own, no noise would come. You need to do rewiring of the pedal.

Yep you just plug it in backwords
